That’s kind of the heart of the problem, isn’t it? It honestly doesn’t really matter what resource you pick to learn from as long as you consistently work through the material and don’t just jump ship if you don’t get it right at first. Failure is an inherent part of learning so your best bet is to just power through the failures until you succeed.

Just do Bargue plates. It's slow and tedious busywork but it'll teach you relative measuring and train your eye so you can catch your mistakes more easily and play spot the difference between your study and the original better.
Don't binge the whole thing, just a bit everyday. It's fucking boring but it works, and once you have a good eye for proportions and accuracy studying is easier.
You actually plateau pretty fast when only drawing as a hobby with little to no studying like most people did as children/teens. Deliberate practice is the only way anyone improves, but if you don't draw for fun and don't mix studying with drawing what you like you'll be miserable and burn out.

if you're having eyeballing issues, try practicing with graph paper and overlaying a grid on your reference to match and have it side by side to match. instead of tackling an overwhelming amount of detail at once, you break it down by matching the lines/details on the smaller squares.

pic related. it should help your sanity a bit since you'll see progress as long as you're autistic about the accuracy of the line placements in the squares.

Not really, I actually think it’s much easier to draw this way. I use a .7-.9 brush size with opacity pressure scaling and it feels vaguely like working with a soft trad pencil. If you haven’t tried it, you should. It’s good fun.

I suppose I could try other methods of achieving the same visual effects, but for my purposes it works well enough as is.

Take a breather, switch up mediums, also something fun is to pick any three things you like and make an illustration. If you like the subjects you’ll have more fun drawing, coming up with ideas will be easier plus you’ll be more motivated to finish it. That one helps me a lot when I’m feeling down or just stuck.

Been there still there desu. however, i've recently started to pinpoint what i've been doing wrong ( and more importantly not doing) and making a real effort to rectify it. it's not enough to practice and never create art and vice versa, you really have to do both consistently to get a clear picture of what you lack. Personally, I'm terrible at this and will admit this can be grueling. But it's truly the only way to get past the hurdle and unhealthy views of your artwork and improve. good luck anon.

If you just make some straight men, as long he is cool or beautiful then it is a good contribution here and what does it matter. Personally I would like to see less sexually charged men, and also see friends. I think it would be a positive influence and add depth and just give the rest of us something less sexual to be inspired by. This would benefit everyone here since we'd be seeing more of a range of male beauty. Personally I would like to make gay relationships but not sex focused

No one would apply that logic to learning languages. Everyone accepts that native speakers have been speaking since childhood or at least most of their life. But you know that by applying your adult brain and intellectual capacity, you can speed up the process of language learning and speak pretty decently for most purposes with just 3 or so years.

This adds to my point, you aren't needing to be a native speaker (metaphorically) so you should be able to get there in just a few years or sooner.

Can you show some work? It sounds like you are getting lost in the tutorial weeds and I was too and the only cure is to draw. And maybe you will say you are drawing, but posting it is a nice thing for people to know you. It makes advice much more meaningful.

Don't think of it that way-- think of every day drawing as stepping stones towards improvement.

Anything worth learning will be hard, and, if you're dead-set on getting anywhere good with your drawings, you'll have to put in the work. Of course, there will be lots of fumbling and failures along the way, and you won't be satisfied with yourself every time you try to draw, which is something that you will have to learn to come to terms with as well.

But perseverance is key-- the "greats" of any field didn't sit around wishing they could be better. They just went for it.

Also do post work if you can. That'll give anons a good gauge as to where you sit right now.
