If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS wide using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

I should probably use the spheres/boxes even when I'm drawing from a photo, right? The whole thing is a mess but I think the most egregious thing is that I failed to put the eyes in perspective (and the nose is fucked up too) which messed up the whole pose.

Is this a good schedule for 8 hours of daily drawing if my goal is an art style more based on lineart and detailing like pic related for character art, NSFW and mechanical design? (I don't care much for rendering skills)

I’m really enjoying these types of faces that im making recently, with more planar/painterly aspects. So im just wondering if other find it appealing as well? Obviously with more rendering they’d be even better, but I wanted to gauge the general vibe

Overall happy with how this came out, feel like I'm starting to get a feel for perspective drawing.
Reluctant to put the strong shadows on the road for this one, I tried suggesting them with some pencil but it doesnt really make sense when I've used the dark pen for everything else, input on that would be appreciated.

If you go strong with dark shadows. Start on the foreground edges and work your way in.

Pen strokes are wide, and they have covered space that could have been used for small important details in the focal point area.

It's a good sketch.

easy with the airbrush/blur tool, you can make a drawing look way worse if you use it mindlessly
the highlights on that reference's hair are actually way brighter than yours
they also shifted the hue from brown to orangeish the further you go up the hair while yours just stays the same hue
try experimenting with the color picker and you'll catch a lot of interesting things

Loving the drawing so far anon. Try experimenting with other skin colours and different coloured highlights to really make the facial features pop up.

Keep drawing and you will eventually internalize basic proportions. Some artists rely heavily on construction (e.g. Loomis), others just go for it and count on their skill to lead them to the right place (e.g. Kim Jung Gi). Don't worry so much about which camp you fall into, or what you're putting on the page, just keep putting *something* on the page.

Drawing from imagination is a skill you need to learn like anything else, and even then you aren't really drawing from imagination you are drawing from what you know and have seen.

You also need to change the mindset of "Oh that looks horrible/came out horrible" to something more positive, everyone starts somewhere.

Try reference drawing, how to draw by scott robertson, keys to drawing by bert dodson. There are structured lessons and shit in there you can follow along with, keys to drawing in particular covers mental issues like the one you're having with negativity.

Is there someone that explains it well, or is it more of an issue with me being poor at boxes and 3d shapes in perspective, which I know is also an issue? In all seriousness though, you could make the mouth smaller and angle it toward her right (your left). It does remind me of Fujimoto’s drawings if that’s what you’re going for, especially the way you drew the eyes.

Absolutely, very important. The less complicated your construction is, the more knowledgeable of anatomy you need to be.
Most of the pros out there that just need a box to draw a torso or a circle in the paper to do a knee or an elbow joint know their shit, if you do the same without knowing you'll just end up symbol drawing everything, and not realizing till you're done.

You're chicken scratching while inking, it IS going to look bad. Next time focus on getting clean and continuous lines. Even if you're not happy with your sketch it will be an opportunity to practice cleaning up a drawing.

>>6414829
There's a lot of symbol drawing going on here. When figure drawing you should focus on what you're seeing instead of what you think something should look like. I find that when starting on figure drawing it can be very confusing to work on a line drawing and shading at the same time. Next time do one of these things:
a. Lines only: Try to observe and translate forms with only lines, using a little bit of hatching to imply contours.
b. Shading only: Using a marker, charcoal, or the side of your pencil you'll observe your reference and try to translate its shapes and volumes using light and shadow only. Focus mostly on big shapes and don't give much attention to small details.

When you feel a little more confident doing these things separately you'll get better results doing both at the same time.

just draw what you see. You deal with fur either by finding brush which imitates the texture or by taking HRB, making it 1 pixel wide and then drawing the hairs one by one until it matches the ref. If the hairs are facing camera you have to foreshorten them by making them smaller to a single dot. The darker the area the more fur you will slap there

Sour grapes anon, please remember not to look down on people with skill. It helps a lot to know how to draw an actual human before you stylise it, and refusing to do that step will just make the learning process take longer or severely limit your skill. You can't just try something once and then immediately complain it didn't work out.

If it's not fun, make it fun. Find out what the obstacle is, try a different medium like charcoal or paint.

I haven't posted it in two months, so if you've been seeing it, that's not me. I am the one who drew it. Anyway, I'm sorry your life is so shitty you've fixated on me. Maybe you should go back to drawing.
I'm only responding because I had to take a shit. Good night.

English isn't my first language so i thought that maybe the opposite page would be the backside of the paper. In your case, i would just say "left is from reference" rather than opposite.

>of that's what you're incorrectly asking,
Strange way to phrase something, but thank you the clarification.

>>6415664
You can try using random references, objects, or associations you have with words and incorporate that in a design in any way you can.

Make bee armor. Carrot weapons. Stalactite gloves. Whatever. It'll suck, but you'll actively think about why it sucks and subconsciously create preferences. At some point you'll find things in your designs that you like, and then it's just a matter of isolating that.

Every object has a colour scheme, textures, other qualities, etc. You need to be conscious of that if you want to design cool shit.

my ability to discern what parts of my drawings are shit and what is wrong with them that is causing them to look off is rapidly outpacing my ability to correct my shitty drawings as well as draw non-shit things in the first place. it's probably a net positive since it's proof i'm learning but at the same time it's really really getting to me and it's getting harder to pick up a pencil to draw since i get apprehensive about putting in effort to draw when i know i'll end up drawing and erasing the same eyes and mouth for 2 hours and still never end up getting it looking right. i would practice faces but my observation and accuracy need practicing more it seems. should i just copy a relatively simple master drawing, compare my copy to the original, then redraw until it's right?

They're asking if you can do the basics when making your own work. Basically, everything underneath the rendering. Blocking in shapes and colours, shit like that. (I think that's how it works at least)

If that's the step you get stuck on, you know what to work on. But if you're able to do that but get stuck on the rendering specifically, the issue isn't with the basics.

how bad is it, bros? haven't tried to draw anything since 8/28 and that was just some skeletons from an anatomy video i was watching
i think this took <10 minutes but i didn't time it
might have picked a bad starting image since i was never good in the first place, but from what i can tell the legs are fucked up and the neck may be a little short, ignoring issues with the sword and scabbard shapes. oh, also the rib cage because i forgot how it's shaped for some reason...
also i definitely don't think this qualifies as gesture but i've never learned gesture, i'm just vaguely afraid of trying to add details
also also sorry for the weird split, one is a youtube video the other is opened from a discord message i sent myself

>> No.6416153

well, you're referencing a video with about 200 pixels total, and you're drawing stick figures instead of actionable construction or gesture. Go again with better reference and consciously placing lines that matter.

make her head longer and give her a fucking chin. git rid of that miku faggot anime style chin now. it will always make you art look beg.

for gods sake draw an actual fucking nose.

the right has thumb placement is off, the connection should be visible, or slightly visible, which means you'd see 2 or 3 of the thumb joints. the left elbow is too high and upper arm is too short. git rid of the unessesary lines near the hips, it adds nothing and hurts my eyes.

the left hand is terrible. but you knew that.

the right lower leg thats bent should be visible and not just dissappear. same with the left leg.

the tit gap at the top shouldnt ge that big.. just draw a small indent, or shorten those lines.

Overall: Work on head contruction (NOW), Get better at emotions/expressions, practice hads till you get em right, make sure the elbow lines up COMFTORBALLY with the hip bone, like right on top of it, get rid of unessecary lines on the bdoy (especially when drawing females), work on your legs (david finch has great vids on legs), and get better at rendering.

very long critique but valid.

also pic rel is what i'd say do for the left hand.

dont EVER fuckign practice drawing shapes. DONT EVER DO THAT.

focus on studying from body builders and shredded people. dont focus on learning crazy wacky gestures/poses, because you will never draw them again. only practice what you know you will use again. like a specific hand pose or a psecific angle of the torso. but dont.... EVER... draw shapes to practice. i havent even drawn a trianlge or a square in years (when im drawing obv) and i still went from pre beg to high beg/low int (sometimes on certain artworks) in just 2 years.

hey anon, it's not that bad overall but there are some things wrong with the muscle placement here and there. your shadows also seem a bit haphazardly placed, i would focus on one light source before laying down any kind of shadow. hands also seem a little wonky and too different sizes so I'd watch out for that as well.
hope you don't mind, i did a redline over top of some of the bigger errors.
