Your spouse doesn't need to be an artist himself but if he can't even muster the ability to support you or worst expect you to put everything on the back burner to support his own pursuits but does nothing to reciprocate it's going to fail in the future and you will absolutely regret wasting your time on him. Let's be real. To most people pursuing art is a waste of time they should rather had kept as a hobby. If you want to convince him then you need to prove you can earn an income from your art in some way. Art majors are notorious for not leading to a job. Besides OP's "boy" probably know OP a lot better than we do and gives the advice with good intentions. Finally if OP just wanted to dump him there would be no need for making this thread in the first place.

It's just a hard reality of life that most who graduate from an art academy never end up using it in a professional context.

Mine bitches about my art because his ex was an artist on this board. bitches about how he has no talent even though he is a musician and good at it. every time I draw and bumps me or starts doing loud shit behind me. I used to sell imvu edits to pay for school classes and shit but now the AI craps those out. he is just trying to help with the AI being released anything that isn't hard specified (architecture website design etc) is kind of a prompt plug in now. you need a direction with your art if you want to make it a career that you live on but he shouldn't flat out tell you no because there are still plenty of ways to apply art.

Also artschool is a scam for the most part (from what I heard) unless you managed to get in for free or very cheap. Its mostly good for connections soooo... make sure you get plenty of those.

When people look for artists they usually look at their portfolio and see if they like the style. Most of what is taught in artschools can be learned online or from books from what I heard. (unless its a very hardcore one but to my knowledge , most arent).

Would personally recommend keeping art as a side hustle/hobby rather than relying on it for all your income.
