This is why artists will be replaced by AI.

Isn't the same that happened with that Bayonetta voice actor? Don't say it like only artists are greedy bastards, everyone in every kind of job that demands a certain uniqueness and skills acts like that.

Been seeing this drama today, especially since I follow her on Instagram.

I really like her work, and I agree that they could pay more than $3k (assuming that it's a significant piece of key art, not that we really know what the project was). I could see her negotiating high thousands. Though since we don't know what the project was, it's hard to say. There are scenarios where $15k or $3k could be appropriate.

I also think that it's a bit unprofessional to air this dirty laundry on social media, especially in a more casual 'venting' manner. She's right that illustration rates have not grown as much as they could have in decades. Artists should be paid more by such large clients, and sometimes they are paid more. It is possible, especially if you have illustration agents that are much better at negotiating. Fortnite's not necessarily wrong for potentially lowballing, nor is Deb for commenting on it. Though I wonder if the twitter likes will be worth being seen as a liability for commissioning her in the future.

your picture is consumed for about 5 seconds while the game is played for years if anyone needs a raise it's the fucking programmers

Depends on what the art was for.
As another anon stated this feels like that situation with the Bayonetta VA.

you charge for publications by viewership.
Its why one guy can charge pepsi $20mil for a logo
If you provide an illustration, and they make $50 grand off of a poster, then they fucked you for 3k

>illustrates for someone else's intellectual property
>said IP is arguably Epics biggest asset (fortnite)
>wants to keep commercial rights and special legal treatment

This woman is either insane or insanely dumb.
No company in their right mind would let you retain commercial rights on their own intellectual property. Not to mention the contractual exceptions the legal team would have to set up. I mean this is one of the highest-grossing gaming franchises of all time. Does she really think she could sell her contract work nilly-vanilly like that?

Epic would have to contain her exception into any follow-up contracts that deal with the full bundle of illustrations for the game. Like if they split the company up and sold off their assets, for whatever reason, they'd have to carry her ass contractually to that point. No company would do that. Hell, no sane person would do that...

How stupid is this woman? If you want more cash then negotiate that, but commercial rights?
Bitchnigger this is literally blue-collar contract work.

Oh okay, that explains where that inflated ego is coming from...

if she makes a poster, the poster is her design, and will be used for everything - including billboards/ virtual ads, merch, etc.
3k is chump change, especially if it is a big commission that needs more than half a month spent on in time and effort, and that the company will regain in 2,4 seconds through microtransactions. who exactly should get that renumeration then, in your opinion? the ceos who are busy having sex with trafficked women on private islands, for being sooo productive?

you people don't piss yourself this way over coders earning 200k+ a year over some lines of code, it's genuinely baffling to come up with such a strong emotional reaction when someone asks one of the richest companies in this entire world for more than minimum wage. i guess jealousy is a much more powerful corrupting emotion in men. embarrassing.
