I typed out a whole assed post just to get an error.
I'll probably forget half so mayve I'll post stuff later too but whatever.

So basically took up this guys advice
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRmgLBCaV6Q
and did a 3 month bootcamp to learn a style you really like.
For me I really like the style of The Banner Saga games.
I'll be animating in this style and I think it's quite suited for that purpose.

I didn't do finish one piece I did 3 and then went to compare what I did differently. In the beginning I didn't take a day to really pratice what's lacking but I would recommend it or you'll half ass it. He does say to not get lost in practice but I think 3 pieces one day of practice got me a pretty good balance.

I'll be posting my progression alongside my thoughts about the process.

Now what skill level should you be to attempt this? It's true if you've got your basics down it's much easier to focus on the style but I would recommend this to anyone really. It helps you focus on what you want to make and iron out where you lack the skills needed instead of endless practice.
It keeps you comming up with new pieces too so you'll be more familiar with inventing poses scenes whatever it is you're doing.

He does say you should treat it like you would send this to your boss or this would be what you present to the public but I did what I could to the best of my abilities every day.
I don't have the issue of telling myself I'm not serious or I'm just doodling.
Yes some days will be better than others but it happens.

Which brings me to posting what you make somewhere.
I posted all my drawing to the beg&int thread, as a little accountabilty.
You might not need it but for me it kept me going at times.
Plus you can get some (good) feedback too!
At a certain point people know your stuff and what you're doing so don't expect a reply on every post though.

I would like to get any advice you can give me and any artists or courses I should check out to help with my goals of animation in this style.

I've probably forgotten some things I wanted to say about it all but whatever, I'd recommend it in general.
You could do one or two months and see how that goes.

it’s like a mixture between that zelda CD and disney classics. there’s just such a large amount of detail missing from every massive drawing that it’s uncanny. they look like they were drawn specifically to animate because of how few details there are

Haven't heard of that thanks man!
Looks like a good addon, giving more in depth thoughts
People should probably start from the book then if anyone else is interested in doing this.
>>6389001
Yeah I can see what you're saying, my general lack of understanding translates into too few details in place where it matters.
I should maybe do some rendered pieces maybe even of one of the ones I did in the three months.

really cool to see all your stuff in one go! (i'm the anon who redid the cook and the sorcerer stepping away from the cauldron btw)
i think you made a lot of progress in all this time and am pretty impressed you have so many completed pieces in the end. all your characters are very different in body type and body language, which is also neat, and the colors have an old-timey quality to them imo, which makes them stand out and very memorable.
you may be a bit unsure with your lines and anatomy though, and i would recommend more figure drawing to develop more confidence in your linework and become more comfortable with bodies along the way.
Good luck and easy learning on your journey ahead!

Oh yes thanks again, the sorcerere fpr sure helped me better udnerstand clothing lighting etc.
>i think you made a lot of progress in all this time and am pretty impressed you have so many completed pieces in the end
Thank you, I did try to learn as much as possible outside of the style too.

For sure, I got the general shapes down but I should probably learn some more anatomy while doing figure studies.
Thanks again for the kind words

>>6389585
Yes, I love the style
Although they're more like paintings simplified to be printed in books
I don't think it'd be easy to replicate in animation.
Maybe I could learn a thing or two shape in design though
I like Abigail Larson as someone contemparary that does that style

bro, i really dont want this thread to end
goddamnit, this entire board is filled with bullshit bait treads, but the moment an anon posts their work and is showing how they made the progress, the thread is buried and forgotten, this is such a shitty boards
god bless you anon, amazing work and thanks for sharing your progress with us
also, if you have one, could you post your blog?

Wow thanks man!
I doubt that this thread will change the population of the board though.
It might inspire someone to draw and I hope it does but I don't think it needs to be shoved in peoples faces as a fuck you.
Maybe I'm reading your post wrong idk
I appreciate the sentiment though and I won't be going anywhere, I'll post less since I don't do actual pieces right now but I'll be back
With MORE progress!
Anyway, no blog or anything atm I'll post it here when I start my animation.
