probably but it's mostly used for either signatures or for background sets. Trad calligraphy for sure though can fall into /ic/
If you use digital it prob be helpful to go to /gd/ if your doing logo like designs or need to learn how to adjust letters or create your own fonts or buy/get free ones.

Typography is taught in every single art related program. Usually have to design your own font in traditional method with angles and serifs and everything on each giant letter in your alphabet.

I've been looking for more calligrapybros on /ic/ for a while
I've just finished all blackletter charakters for the first time. Like a few minutes ago.

>>6391383
It's up to you I guess. Charakters used in English are very common, and there's a lot of fonts. Chineese and Japaneese is entierly different, but is usally still nice looking!

I don't care much for learning calligraphy, but...

How the fuck do I learn to make such beautiful compositions? That first video is mesmerizingly good, are there principles about this taught anywhere?

copy hand written samples of ones you like and do letters over and over again. then actually use your writing for taking notes, making lists, maybe copy some texts into your hand writing that you developed.

do you really want the discussion on calligraphy to be centered around some random books on calligraphy like how it has been with loomis and bridgman for drawing? besides, there are multiple scripts and different purposes.
we can talk about inks, quills, brushes, dip pens, papers, which script is good for which application, experiences, selling works.

Yes, I want to talk about the part that matters. Materials are very low IQ talk past a basic list of what to use, you won't draw better by having a moleskin or premium Copic Markers.

>> No.6393404

>>6393211
these instructors learned by looking at existing works or more likely looked at instructions by people who looked at manuscripts, and maybe added their own touch. except the instructors have worse writing than the primitives. probably because they studied from books on forms, and printed works from after the printing press instead of manuscripts. so just study straight from manuscript examples, especially if you are learning historical script like bastarde or italic or whatever, unfiltered.
materials isn't necessarily just about writing or drawing better and can get much more complex than just a basic list. past a certain skill level or mindset about art, craft becomes very important for many artists and their fulfillment.

They're called flourishings my not-caring-about-calligraphy Amigo.
I'd recommend the book Calligraphic Flourishing by Bill Hildebrandt if you're interested - it can be found via google by looking for the title +pdf.
