Bastard!! manga. If you want to read it be aware than it kind of suffers from the "it gets good in 7 volumes" meme but unironically (kind of like Jojo) and the later volumes are kind of wack since Hagiwara was really tired of continuing the story. The middle is peak 90s/early 2000s fantasy manga kino, though don't come in expecting it to be similar to Berserk and the likes since it's very campy and over the top most of the time and gets more serious when Dark Schneider isn't on screen. Also yes, this is non-LARP Gabe who's writing.

This is the reason why I'm learning Japanese to be a mangaka. The west just doesn't have the infrastructure set up to run a studio of assistants like this.

Honestly, cringe though it may be, I get a lot of hope from lookin at oldschool pixel art and how expressive some of it can be. The ability to pull out expression in spite of the graphical limitations of a commodore 64 give me hope in my ability to make expressive art despite my abilities.

Depends if you're willing get past the first 5 or so very dated volumes I'd say it's worth the read for the second and third story arc alone (from the Omega Abigail fight up to around Volume 20), but if you're not familiar with 80s/90s shonen tropes or don't like the genre much then it's not for you. Also it's significantly way older than seasonal harem shit, and much more intentionally raunchy to boot. I'd say it's more comparable to Fist Of The North Star and Saint Seiya. Haven't seen the Netflix anime but it seems like a below average adaptation from what I've heard.

Its hard to pick one but I would describe it as an amalgamation composed of Tetsuo Hara/Buronson, Early Miura, Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Masamune Shirow, Satoshi Kamanaka, Akihiro Yamada, Ichiri Itano.

And then those mixed with the whole sword and sorcery giants, Frazetta, Boris Vallejo, Clyde Caldwell, Paul Bonner, Brom, hell even some Simon Bisley. Its a long shot but thats my goal.

Togashi, I love alot of artists but Togashi has everything I love all mixed into his. What I like the most is his variety and ability to have a character who looks like theyre from the power puff girls and a hyper realistic character next to each other and not bat and eye.

If Togashi taught me anything,it's that imperfections often make something what it is. Which sounds like a dig at his art being shit - which it's not, far from it, it's just a tad flawed sometimes. But those weird things I might consider flaws that need fixing give his art so much natural charm. I guess that goes for his writing too.

I'm mostly speaking from a YYH perspective; I'm sure he's improved a lot since.
