If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS wide using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

Decided to redo the geasture that I failed yesterday and I did two new ones from a reference. I feel like I did number one much better than yesterday, not perfect but it looks like a step up from last time though the other two are not as good.
Number two's body looks much rounder than the reference even though I got messed up a bit with how dark the ref was I still need to improve on that.
But number three looks the worse out of the three, proportions look way off, and the gesture looks too flat even with the curves.
Is there anything flaws in them that I might have missed, still new to this gesture drawing thing.

That helps me a bit actually, never really considered paying attention to how the body reacts to the floor and I need to drill in my head that the lines shouldn't be taken as law and should be used as a guide.
Though I didn't pick up on the proportion and angle stuff, just didn't come to mind for some reason for I'm very thankful that you brought that to my attention.
Also, thank you for redlining my gestures. I knew figures one and 2 had some problems with them since the position they have screwed me up a bit but I didn't notice what was wrong about the third. except from the fact that I fattened up the stomach whereas the reference one was quite lean.
Thank you again for the help, I'll keep these in mind when I try these gestures again.

Not sure what else you're looking for, this looks like a finished character concept, do you have more examples? You could put it in a scene now.

I think the shadow for the breasts should be larger in both directions given their contour and lack of form, you're essentially missing its cast shadow. Same goes for the ears. You could also try a more interesting light direction.

Twitter's almighty algorithm occasionally shows tweets of little mini tutorials (like pic related) that aren't always super helpful, but often give me a place to start for the day and get the drawing muscles moving.

The issue is, that twitter fucking sucks for curating a list of something like this without just creating a dedicated art tutorial twitter acct as I don't want to fuck up my normal acct. Is there some other site that congregates these types of bite-sized tutorials?

Can I get good at, at least, 1/2 of this list in under a year? Goal is looking to draw in a detailed anime style more comparable to manga or videogames concept/official artwork that more or less employs all fundies at once.
>Character art in general
>Good facial expression
>Detailed Armors, clothing and weapons
>Vehicles and mecha design
>NSFW
>Dynamic action scenes
>Ability to draw characters in a variety of angles employing intuitive perspective
The only fundie I am developing for now is getting a grasp on figures in general, but the proportions and shapes are still whack despite slowly getting better. What other things I'll have to study considering my goals? Any specific resource?

Getting frustrated with fundamentals such as perspective and line confidence. I'm not sure how many different directions I should be focusing on being able to draw or if I should get the muscle memory down well enough in just one direction before I attempt another.

Not sure if I'm drawing lines too fast or too slow either, damn it all to hell I just feel like I'm not really getting anywhere.

At least I sat down and practiced for 2 hours, hope I can keep myself consistent.
Another thing is everyone says I should be drawing for fun sometimes too instead of grinding but I'm such a beginner that I don't know how to even begin drawing what I want to.

it's in that murky beg area where it becomes very hard to describe the order in which things are misplaced since it's a lot of things that are slightly out of alignment in different ways relative to each other; it takes a lot of analysis to list individual mistakes which are definitely present since they can be caused by another mistake earlier in the chain, but it passes at first glance
like the right-hand side pupil appears more turned to the viewer than the closer left-hand eye, the trajectories for the eyelid lines being kind of arbitrary, the nose looking a bit too much like a trapezoid prism, minor things like that that add up across the piece, but at this rendering level it can pass as natural since it's within normal human variance, but that's not condusive to an accurate assessment of skill or how badly you deviated from your intentions or reference since the rendering resolution is so low
one problem that is identifiable is that your construction lines are too messy and not deliberate, it looks like you're doing the thing where you keep tweaking them until the line becomes thick enough to allow for a higher margin of error and approximation, not to say that you should be expected to draw solid construction lines as a beginner despite loomis taking crucial things like spatial recognition and perspective for granted, but it half-defeats the purpose of construction as a technique in my opinion; personally i've decided that i'm not ready to use it since i'm simply not good enough at spatial visualization and my line discipline is far too poor, i've been doing drawabox for that lately and i think it's helping
all that being said, it looks like what a completed beg exercise should look like i think, so do it again except faster and better

the answer is always "too fast"
even if you are making lines too slowly, you are doing them too slowly in a way that is too fast, this might not make sense but it is always true, for everything, not just drawing
your brain will always want to escape the difficult and uncertain as quickly as possible subconsciously, and then it will lie to your conscious self about it after the fact
i also can't draw a straight line(or any other kind of line) to save my life, and the only thing that helps is forcing myself to be "unconscious" while the line is being drawn, as soon as the hand starts moving you have to stop existing and become a lizard, it's tough and it's why stupid people have pretty handwriting
as for drawing for fun, i'm sure there's at least one cartoon network character you want to fuck, apply yourself, no one draws stock portraits of pouty buff dudes for fun, "fun" does not have deadlines, take the time that is needed, even if it's days

Then search on boorus and copy pouty buff dudes you do like. You have to like SOME piece of art. Copy it. If you literally have no idea, google "famous artists", look at their art and try to draw (or paint or whatever you want to git gud at) their pieces.
Draw the scream, draw starry night, draw a butt, draw Arnold as the Terminator or your favorite buff dude.
Then post it somewhere and practice something fundamental. Then draw Arnie again.
Do you like anything like Magic the Gathering? Copy your favorite cards. Do you like any TV, movies, comics, anime or ANY VISUAL MEDIA EVER?

I traced a butt from gelbooru to practice shading, put it on my snapchat and got a ton of accolades. The next chapter in the drawing book I'm using is drawing a fucking cylinder. I'm still basic.

Draw a straight line with a ruler. Now draw on top of the straight line as you would in a drawing. If the line is wobbly you're going too slow, if the line is off course you're going too fast. adjust speed until you find what's right.

As the other anon said you're using too many chicken scracth lines. It's okay to retry a line a few times to find exactly where you want a line to go, but your hen-pecking approach isn't doing you any favors.

If every time you wanted to draw a basic cylinder you had to lay down 100 little strokes, first of all it would be tedious as hell, and secondly your brain can't actually learn anything if it takes 1,000 steps to get there. Your hand is probably so used to writing letters in tiny strokes that it doesn't have a 'drawing mode' yet. Rather than try to incrementally get the right line by tip-toeing your way down the edge (which in my experience is like trying to write a long sentence on unlined paper without drifting up or down) you're better off practicing longer strokes. so instead of spending 1,000 lines drawing one cup, do it in four (top circle/ellipse, left edge, right edge, bottom). Then just try to do that four line cup several times over. It's going to be uncomfortable at first, but just practice it every now and then and remember to draw from your shoulder, not your wrist.

If you're still confused try watching some videos on YouTube about line control.

>> No.6365542

>>6365440
Ignore the retard telling you to learn perspective. First off you are chicken scratching. Try your best to do long lines instead of short ones. This might be happening because you are drawing with your wrist instead of your arm+shoulder. You are also symbol drawing meaning you arent actually drawing what you see only what you think you see. Read keys to drawing and draw without using your wrist as much

Lots are wrong I know

The perspective on the guy on the right’s fucked, I gave up on perpsective in general on the left guy, and then just doodled what I was going to draw later, the little goblin’s supposed to be bigger, the hands the horrible infernal hands, the feet were sort of working about 20 erases and ‘fixes’ a while ago, (actually in general why DOES trying to fix something more than about three times just destroys the art, just makes the shit unsalvageable, makes you want to crumple the whole goddamn thing up and kill yourself?)

I was trying to have this guy be like a more feral Black Noir just looking all stumbly and out of it until the crooks get close and then he swings about his staff and kicks their but all cool like, and I do want to eventually make a better version for /co/ (literally the only thing I want from art is to ape a cartoon show’s style to provide pictures to my AU fanfic) so is there anything else I missed? I got Fun with a Pencil, I know I should just do the whole book before I dare make an art or something but I kind of told the thread I was going to make this and I’d like to give them a better version.

Sort of unrelated but I guess I’ll put this out too I was trying to get shovelhead here’s face to look more excited to kill and I couldn’t figure out how to do it. i figured out how to make the mustache expressive but the eyes elude me (then adhd brain got hung up on the croissant thing and doodled anime demon thug highschool girls talking about boys)

This is literally all I want to do with art, all I ever wanted to do, make the silly people on the cartoon show or the internet parody match the brain animatics and quips I imagine.

I get WHY I need to learn how to draw normal people but I hate it. I don’t want to make still life, I want to make animes make out and punch their dads.

try drawing the ellipse the top of the of the candle makes as an ellipse.
just in general, try drawing several cylinders with not using 4000 lines until it becomes easy to you.

Did you read the /ic/ sticky before posting here? Asking for feedback is not bad but you have to ask for specific feedback to make it easier to the person helping you.
In order for you to at least know what feedback what to ask for, you get the theory from recommended material from the sticky.

The most glaring concern that I think you have is your use of lines. Build them confidently, in a single stroke. Try tracing first if you're not used to that input device you're using.

Oh right general help
1. How do I make shovelbadguy look more excited to stab the psycho mask boy?
2. What’s the emotional theory on pitching? Is that the right word? Should I draw it more like looking down at them to draw the thugs surrounding him or some other angle for the viewer
3. Shoulder drawing is fucking impossible for doodling in the small shit, why is using my wrist bad for that?
4. WHY are hands and feet so fucking awful to draw?

Pic unrelated it’s something I did earlier (I know Chadrus looks flounder faced, that’s retroactively on purpose)

Didn't came out as good as the feet, I've draw better hands at this exercise too. But this will do for tonight. I think I should've focused on bigger shapes instead of just following the lines.

Using wrist isnt bad. Depending on the angle, pressure, length, curve and style of line you need to dynamically change between wrist, elbow and shoulder. Different tools for different problems so to speak. Some people ignore ergonomics, then get carpal tunnel or other injury and blame using wrist for it and thinking if they used shoulder then they wouldnt get injured. (They would, but instead of wrist their spine would explode). Good ergonomics and streching is what keeps you safe.
Hands are difficult because each finger is essentially a new arm. Lots and lots of complexity for small payout. Feet are just awkward because you arent used to seeing them 24/7 like you do with human faces and bodies

after some pillow talk I realized I didn't like the rendering so far, so I redid the entire thing. Not sure why it feels so different now, I think is because i applied ambient occlusión really close to the lineart, then lowered the opacity of the former by half.

when you're drawing something your brain gets accustomed to what you're drawing so that it looks normal, when you flip the canvas it's like a new picture so you see the mistakes your brain tuned out.

Exercise and good rest would do wonders to your improvement
Exercise increases blood and oxygen supply for the brain
Rest is the part where memory gets crystallized. It's the most vital one and always make sure you get lots of it.

That's all you need to increase your rate of learning. 1 hour of workout can reduce your needed training time by 10 hours if not more.

Just discipline and question your actions later.
(Pondering your actions for too long would always result in a negative as you are inclined to favor keeping the status quo than risking it for a better future.)

That's it.
Lvl 0 of art is the HARDEST level
Once you break lvl 1, your rate of improvement shall snowball like you won't believe
