If you are a /beg/inner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS wide using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

READ THE STICKY:

TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

1. Delts flex when you raise your arm
2. Don't forget the tendon in the knee, it has a bit of volume there
I'd say focus on your anatomy first, folds have their own hurdles and the way it drapes shows volume of its own. Take a look at anatomy books like anatomy for the sculptor for how muscles change from just the anatomically neutral position.

Yeah anatomy is something I need to work on.
Right now I'm doing the 3 months thing where you chose a style you want to emulate.
I've been doing the style of 'The Banner Saga' for more than 2 months now (been posting in every beg and int thread since then) and it has shown alot of my weak points but I'm going to finish the 3 month period first before I go off and get too deep in other things.
The advice is much appreciated thanks man!

you're picking colors based on what you think they are, and maybe trying to add style to it. work with grays first and limit yourself to maybe 3-5 shades so you understand values go where instead of guessing at what colors you think are there.

i tried doing that last time (it wasn't a study) and it came out looking like garbage, i couldn't stick to just 5 values and I'm not sure if one should be doing that with a watercolor brush in the first place! still, thanks for the advice.
and is the grayscale supposed to just work as a guide for yourself or is there an easy way to turn the grayscale into color?

>> No.6358822

>>6358802
You're right. Color on the shoes and shorts looks great, but I'm not sold on the frill. I'm not sure what material they're meant to be either, mesh or plastic. It'd probably help to look at pictures of real translucent frills and material, and try to figure out what gives them that look. They often change the way you see materials under them, bending the light with plastic or softening the color with mesh.

it can be hard but you can switch your ref to grayscale as well. and definitely do not use soft brushes when starting out, it'll make your art into mush.
i think this is a good representation of what I'm trying to say. i started it on the values chapter but def give it a full look through
https://youtu.be/Q6-NhdEPKGk?t=164
and with grayscale, this is to better understand values before you put color back into the mix.

even if when you try it and it looks like shit, thats good.

its what you do AFTER you try it that matters.

Study, take reference, practice and repeat.

And you should never draw and feel like its a chore.

Always make sure to have fun when sketching/drawing.

If you draw and your bored, thats pretty much burnout fuel right there.

Straight lines, use a ruler for one line and draw over it. Then put some dots and connect them. Do the same for curves. Then practice ellipses in all different angles and some circles too. Then some boxes and cylinders in perspective. After I fill one side of an A4 I turn the page and fill the other side with doodles

the ball's bottom shadow is too close to the pyramid, as well as the pyramid not having a occlusion shadow due to the ball;
the ball's bounce light on the bottom isn't at the right spot, it shoulde go down a little bit closer to the ground due to the light being so overhead
the cylinder's circle top edge should be a highlight but you have an outline/lip instead,

start from the very ground up, get your shapes and knowledge of perspective up and then slowly work in shading once you have that more improved accuracy; if you juggle too many things at once you'll likely burn out or find you aren't improving

dedicate time to learning one thing at a time and slowly introduce more to the drawings as you find your confidence is building, it's still fine to spend one day learning shapes, another perspective, then another shading, but yeah just try not to do all of them at once before you have a solid understanding of one

I'm gonna be honest, I'm not too sure. If my first copies are ok then I guess I must be on the right track with drawing simple forms.

Well, hopefully going through this book enough times and doing these as exercises can help me better with references.

You desperately need a reference for the head. You've drawn somebody with ears growing out of her cheeks. Working with colors and shading is fruitless with such a poor underdrawing.
>>6361417
Your drawings remind me of my own. You aren't indicating the plane change in the head the occurs around the end of the eyebrow. Look how the head stops on the negative space on the one side, you also need to draw that plane on the other side even though you can still see the sode of the head. Its throwing off your ear placement and making the side of the head look like its melting. I tried to do a redline to show what I mean, sorry if I'm not being clear.
