Alright, here it is. These are old, unreleased sketches from Yoh Yoshinari (GAINAX/Trigger ace animator). Someone was--and probably still is--selling xeroxed copies of a set of his rough drawings. The original seller titled the collection アニメーター・吉成曜 らくがき・イラスト集(90年代後半頃?)エヴァンゲリオン, or "Animator Yoh Yoshinari Sketches and Illustrations (late 90's?) Evangelion". I don't know how the seller got their hands on all this as-yet unseen material from the 90s and early 2000s; it's possible that these were outtakes from Yoshinari's officially published rough sketches book from 2013. As far as I can tell most of these legitimately seem to be his drawings.

This set contains:
-Characters from various franchises (Evangelion, Rayearth, Sailor Moon, Slayers, etc.)
-Rough / cleaned up genga
-Animation breakdowns
-Studies of manga and comics (Hellboy and a Satoshi Kon manga called "Seraphim", among others)
-Studies of effects animation by other animators (Mitsuo Iso, among others)
-Studies of real-life photos
-Figure drawings
-Effects drawings

Unfortunately, the photocopies were of low quality and a lot of information has been lost. Aside from some cleaning, the drawings are more or less as they appeared physically. It seems the earliest drawings are from 1994~1995; some genga from Evangelion and Metal Fighter Miku confirm this. At the latest there are his character designs for Grandia 3 (2005), and some work from Mahoromatic (2000); the majority of the set is likely from between 1995 and 2000, though.

Hello frens, I come here today to share a script I worked on to automate the machine translation of books for the community. I tried to make it as retard-proof as I possibly could so that even the most intellectually challenged of us could use it with no issues.

The instructions are on the gcolab page, but just to be sure I'll list here the steps involved:
>obtain the book you want to translate
>compress it as a zip of images (no folder)
>upload that zip to your gdrive
>read the instructions carefully and run the script
>optional: upscale the images, makes the book much heavier but better quality
>optional: you can translate more than one book if you use various accounts
>obs: "disconnect and delete runtime" to run the script again after you finish translating a book
>obs: I recommend using sumatrapdf on windows for reading books

Things like this (automation) surely is a blessing for the community, but as a translator myself, I think someone who has a knowledge in the language itself need to check whether the machine translations are correct or not. As far as anatomy books go where should I start and how should I use it?
I know about goldfinger and like the detailed explanations of every individual muscle/bone but I cant find a copy online that isnt missing pages. I like the way bridgman is structured (pages of isolated body parts in different positions) but the drawings are odd. Are there any books similar to these?

Hampton is a good starting point if you're /beg/, it will teach you a good approach to drawing the muscles and go over the surface muscles for you. Bridgman is a great next step because Hampton explains what Bridgman is going over really clearly. Morpho is also nice, not as blocky as Bridgman but not as solidly constructed and bold. Can be a good counterbalance to Bridgman's stocky characters, they're very lithe and willowy by comparison. From there, you can really pick the manual you like. Goldfinger, Anatomy for Sculptors, Stonehouse anatomy... whichever one clicks the best with you.

Are there any Japanese books on animation? Not "how to draw anime/manga" or some anime pose book but one on timings, plannings, techniques etc that animators use when making sakuga

the only animation books i know of are american disney stuff which mostly teaches acting and smooth floppy animation, and while that's very valuable and i've read them all and continue to study from them, i dont know of any resource that'd help with making sequences of animation like FLCL, Demon Slayer, Cowboy Bebop etc

i think it SHOULD be the former. Because you still have to know perspective, value, light, color etc. When you get the fundies, jump into animation fundamentals. Human brain can only learn so much at once, and as far as i know. Animation fundamentals >< Art fundamentals.
Concept art is vastly different from illustration, so comparing moving art & unmoving art is like comparing apples & oranges.

Animation is drawing, but instead of 1 drawing per hour, it's 24 per sec. So, learn how to draw good first.

You can learn both at the same time, however I suggest with learning how to draw anatomy through croquis, morpho's books or hide channel's method. Get yourself used to draw human poses from different angles, you don't even need to be that accurate/good/detailed like vilppu. What set animators different from portrait artists is they don't dwell so much on perfect accuracy on anatomy, they focused on how well the general outline of your sketch, after all animating is drawing 8-24 pictures just for 1 second of animation, you don't need to be that good at your first try like what Bahi did. Later you can improve your anatomy, be someone like Hiroyuki Okiura if you want.
But get good at timing and spacing, because that's the heart of animation.

Side note:
While reading Richard William's animator survival kit, you'd find he suggest the otherwise, he said you need to be good at drawing first before you start animating. I guess that's the old school way of doing it. I mean, Richard Williams did go to serious art school, doing painting and stuff like that. Of course his perspective is kinda biased toward the traditional art school method.
