6282691 No.6282691 [Reply] [Original]

So... I've been doing a lot of drawing tutorials lately. As in, I was banging my head at courses like Keys to Drawing and Draw A Box.
I've begun drawing more on my own free time and then... well, something just *clicked*.

Instead of consciously drawing what I see in my head or planning out what to draw in a clear manner, I just move my arm and let my unconscious mind do all the work.
Now, the scary part about this is, it just works. I have no idea what the fuck is going on.
I want to draw using my consciousness, I want to be able to convert what I see in my mind on paper, and not allow a deep, mysterious force inside of me do all the work.

Anyway, this is only way I can draw "well", now. I leave all my thinking to my unconsciousness.
I just stare at the piece of paper or screen with a blank mind and draw with the rhythm of my heart.
This feels so wrong, but I don't know. No one has ever told me to do drawing like this.

Wtf I saw this thread and just drew without thinking I am so much better than I am when thinking, it comes out automatically. Is this what making it feels like? Has overthinking really just made me so scared that most of my innate skill has gone unrealized until now?

im sorry fren, but you need to start out simpler if that took you hours
Learn gesture drawing/figure drawing to quickly lay down a construction you can work on. Keep grinding, it will take a while to get comfortable with, but I assure you that you'll save hours and it will look better
Also, grind a ton of boxes and cylinders in basic perspective since you're new

>>6285200
Thank fren.
After I made that I had been looking up better tutorials. The other 2 things I'm working on already look better with not even half the time put into it... Yet... Most of the time was spent on smoothing the lines and correcting spots that show up whenever I zoom or adjust the canvas.

Ill green text it
>Take ugly drawing made with notepad
>Trace it with an an actual art program
>Use premade head, adjust it
>Use premade arms, adjust them
>Look for a specific hand that's robotic
>Spend way to much time tracing, erasing, modifying
>Didn't matter anyways can't see smaller details, could have been way simpler
>Tired at this point
>98% chest down mirrored
>Make it even worse with equally bad shading
If I like what I make next then I'll probably post a time lapse somewhere in the future

here's the validation for the fact that you've wasted your time and that you should probably just give up on art altogether.

To be honest with you, leaving the autistic trolling aside, I don't think you should give up, not many people get to have the luxury of being so passionate about something to the point of spending 7 hours straight on it. However, to really reach the level of quality you wish for yourself, you have to learn how to make good use of your time, the overall picture is always more important than it's individual details, but to be able to improve, you have to develop good taste, and, most importantly, a taste for experimentation and self-reflection. Only those two things matter for an artist, Being an artist is supposed to be fun, very painful at times, but essentially fun. Because, in the end, if something isn't fun, don't bother.

Agree on the part of being passionate. Never had the resources, time, patience, or even peace that I've needed for a long time in order to not just try new things but put some actual effort into it.
>Pic rel was done on notepad
You're right about the overall picture, I always sperg on small details before having a good foundation to lay them on.
Definitely having fun with it as I can now make my own edits and whatnot but yeah, those 7 hours were painful. Once it closed in on that time I just wanted to move on and try something new with different methods.
I'll post the time lapse later.
On a side note: the little dot was actually a mistake as every time I zoom out sometimes it things I'm drawing lmao
However seeing it as you have done it I like it and will definitely have to keep it plus it looks better with 5 fingers instead of 3.
Thanks for the words of wisdom anon, and amazing work on the lighting, shadows, and reflections.
