hi, retard here

>> No.6247057

>books for absolute retards on basic human anatomy ?
So are we talking like a very in depth look into the anatomy? Or a very simple look into it? For me, the former would be Bridgman (Complete guide to drawing from life) which is almost entirely about anatomy for an artist, the Later Loomis (Fun with a pencil and then Figure Drawing for all it's worth) which does go over anatomy but in a more brief "just enough" kind of way. These are the common answers, and I'm sure these hoarders have some more obscure and possibly appropriate books.

> books on hand exercises to make my drawings less wobbly ?
I doubt there's a book that is specifically about this, though many will just quickly mention it (I think Loomis says something in a single sentence?), but this will naturally get better as you get confident in drawing. Try drawing in less, more quickly made, strokes. Also this video has some good exercises for line confidence and quality: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C87ZXHPQkh0

>So are we talking like a very in depth look into the anatomy?
i have "Goldfinger Eliot - Human Anatomy For Artists The Elements Of Form"
and it has some very in depth anatomy drawings, that's TOO MUCH for now, but it also has some simplistic geometrical shapes (like hand) that shows how can you draw a simple rectangle and then "fill it" to create a hand
i need something that will show me examples and will say "look retard this limb can be drawn/made using this and that shape/geometrical figure, here's 10 examples of that, now try repeating this yourself"
>I doubt there's a book that is specifically about this
ye i think so too i'll check loomis i have these on drive alredy
>Try drawing in less, more quickly made, strokes.
that's actually good idea saved and thx for video
lastly my tablet is smooth, is using stabilization in drawing software cheating ? i'm tempted to use it but i know it will hinder my progress

>> No.6247248

>>6247179
>cheating
Thats not really a good word for it but while you’re learning you probably shouldnt have autostabilizer type shit on because it will spoil you
You should learn strong confident linework
Later on in your art “career” you can employ stabilization to make certain tasks easier but if you use it right off the bat your actual linework skills will suffer

>> No.6247252

>>6247179
>i need something that will show me examples and will say "look retard this limb can be drawn/made using this and that shape/geometrical figure

I think Bridgman would be best for focusing on each individual limb, but he's explanations are more in depth than what I think you want, but if you want a more simplified look, I'd actually recommend Jack Hamm's Drawing the Head & Figure, as he focuses on each limb in a very simple way - Do Loomis' Fun with a pencil first and then go through Jack Hamm's book; if I'm understanding what it is you want, this should be a good course of action, though other's may have better recommendations.

All of these books are public domain I believe, so easily available.

>lastly my tablet is smooth, is using stabilization in drawing software cheating ?
Nah, do whatever gives you a good line and feels good, and most use it anyway, just don't lean on it too much as a crutch.

Alright, what are some good art books that don't actually skip genitals? Goldfinger / anatomy for sculptors, Hampton, etc, all dodge the subject completely. I just want to draw realistic looking vaginas, and probably won't be able to "feel the form" any time soon.

This is the second time I've seen this after someone mentioned bridgman in a thread. Is this some sort of odd autistic campaign against bridgman or what?

As far as I'm aware he released several books on anatomy and drawing, and the book he's most well known for is a compilation of all these books. What does it matter either way if he wrote it or not? It's considered one of the very best books on the subject.

>>6250800
I quickly skimmed the book, I'll get to it at some point, but is it mostly about just a method of studying other artists? Interesting that he could milk an entire book out of that subject.

>> No.6250841

>>6250815
That's the idea but he was concrete steps that are pretty good. I was basically doing the same thing subconsciously but not with the same focus so I wanna try again
Basically it's just
1.find one ideal picture/artist you wanna be
2.Draw your shitty version
3.Find one major specific flaw (prioritizing by face > hands > body)
4.Practice JUST that. Like if your eyes are fucked, practice just eyes don't start doing hair too
5. Go back to 2 and rinse repeat

Also worth it for some tidbits like this:
I realized this when I talked to Mr. Itagaki, the creator of "Grappler Baki"
afterward.
Since Itagaki-sensei draws so many muscular, macho, and extreme
characters, he must be conscious of drawing characters with masculine
strength as his priority.
I think we all have an image of this.
But one day, I was very surprised to hear what Itagaki-sensei was
conscious of when he drew Baki.
"Baki's face is drawn in a feminine way. Feminine and beautiful. "
Isn't that very surprising?
But I was convinced that this is why the characters have more depth and
not just a simple expressions.

>notice how I never commented on whether Bridgeman resources were good or bad
Also notice how I didn't specifically say you said anything bad about him. However simply saying that Bridgman himself didn't write the books does cast an odd shadow on the work, as if it's slapped together or incoherent.

But I was just more curious why I've seeing this multiple times in such a short period, and also annoyed that it's seems inaccurate; he had a good few books published before his death, and then had a "greatest hits" of sorts released that was "Complete Guide to Drawing from Life".

It's hard to know some anon's odd obsessions; we have that one guy who is obsessed with his hate for Loomis, simply because he doesn't feel "Fun with a Pencil" is the best starting book (because it doesn't start with perspective, despite teaching it in the later chapters), and flooding the board with anti-Loomis threads.
I was curious if this was something similar.

Color and Light by James Gurney is not very useful for starters, try this.

go to zlibrary and search for: Color, Betty Edwards
the book uses the RYB system. you have to understand that the book is slightly outdated but will teach you the basics.

don't go too in depth with the book and move to a more advanced one in the future.
most useful systems are munsell, CMY, CMY+RGB, or similar variations.

Color & Light by 3dtotal is awesome but also hard.

it's not red and blue, it's red and cyan. red and cyan are true complementary not like red and green that are only compelementary in the flawed RYB system.

if you don't think thats true test it yourself:
>stare at the red circle on that image for 30s.
>look to something white.
>you will see it's true complementary as an after image.

if mixing colors gives you a brighter color, you are mixing light. (RGB)
if mixing color gives you a darker color, you are mixing pigments. (CMY)

the colors on the pic mix to white because R+GB complete each other.

The Sketchbook of Hiroaki Gohda (合田浩章)

This one dropped back in May, it's a bunch of sketches by god-tier veteran animator/character designer Hiroaki Gouda. Some notable recent work he did was character designs for Bloom Into You, and Amagami and Onegai Teacher before that. The book's filled mostly with quick-sketch type illustrations of characters, all colored (some in monochrome); lots of variation.
