check the beginner/beg thread pseudo "sticky", and see which courses they advertise and greatly encourage. they also discouraged usage of the real board sticky for years until enough complaining made them include it in the occasional OP. this is also why they want to get rid of the megas, not only does it contain free versions of some of those courses, but it also contains ancient old master information, and if beginners figure out that all you need is material from the past or to look at the original board sticky, it makes swindling them that much harder. it's all so tiresome.

i'm not sure if the misdirection is the primary goal as much as it is a side effect of not showing the entire hand at once, so as to keep a student/returning viewer for longer. it does also have a lot to do with advertising, everything they link is some chosen resource to bolster their views/clicks/youtube counts etc.

Right now the both the jets and raptor are both almost in profile view (their facing is in plane with the image). I think the composition might benefit from the jets being turned horizontally 15-30 degree towards the viewer, making their facing closer to perpendicular with the raptor (and in/out of the image plane). It would make the composition feel more dynamic and fill some of the dead space that exists between the raptor and the front jet right now. Does that make sense?

I'd go sharper for the edges of her skin and certain parts of the hair. Especially with the hair you can convey where the strands are denser with sharper edges. You've already done that but it doesnt feel very intentional, I think you can tighten it up and vary it more creating more interesting shapes. For the skin things like her shoulders and neck have blended edges similar to the falling parts of the hair, it makes no sense since skin isnt translucent like falling hair is. If you dont mind the look using a lasso tool to preserve edges is good, if you want it painterly you can go on with a textured but still hard brush, just make sure its distinctly different than the hair.

In general its good to keep in mind your edges should be relative to the rest of your painting, if you like soft edges then soft things should be even more soft

Don't have time to fix things like the foreshortened hand or the overall terrible muddy edges but I think if you changed these things your painting would vastly improve:
hips are assymetrical, hand too small, and in general the guns dont make sense functionally nor look graphically appealing.
Your biggest problem is the torso and her face. Right now she has a very square jaw and the structure of the chest is not only wrtong but feels weirdly masculine. For how thicc you made her on the bottom this seems a bit weird you went this direction.

Trying to change from being a tradfag, but I can only use a mouse to draw.

I bought a chinese tablet someone shilled here, but for the life of my I cant transition to use it. Feels unnatural to draw with a pen, and look up at a screen at the same time.

It's definitely a long game. I started with an intuos. Early on I relied a lot on stabilization and smoothing. Even when I started using a screen tablet I still abused stabilization. Now I'm finally comfortable and switch it all the way off. Took about two years to get there.

Yo're still focusing on form over gesture which is why they're coming out a little on the stiff side. Don't focus as much on the shapes/forms for quick sketches as you do the action itself.

I like the confident lines and the effort on the details.

Though I can't help but imagine you're scratching your head as to why the drawing still looks uninteresting despite the amount of details you added to the objects. The answer is, the perspective is wrong, the proportions of the objects don't make sense, a lot of these details seem added from imagination and don't make sense, the overall composition is boring and there's too much empty space.

Try drawing stuff around your room to get a better grasp of them 3d shapes.

Studying light and shadow and values will greatly improve your painting skills.

Line art and texture aren't the problem, I mean ideally you'd paint over the line art and it wouldn't be visible at all. What's more important is this is not a good reference for a study, unless you're trying to study how to render metallic materials.

In any case, rendering metallic stuff is pretty advanced, you need to have a good understanding of how the planes of the face work and how light interacts with those before jumping to that next step of reflective surfaces.

Practice controlling your lines, intentionally making it thicker and thinner.

A thicker line in your drawing should indicate more mass, closeness to the camera, or even shadow.

In your reference you can see a lot of that, how the line is thicker at her boobs and thighs, and how the lines start thinner at the edges but gets thicker in the middle of the round shapes. Do a lot of copies of the line art you like and try to understand their process.

All that said, it's not the cleanliness of the line art that makes this guy's drawing look sick, it's his understanding of form and how to design appealing shapes.

"Shading" is a lot more complex of a topic, you have to practice painting basic 3d shapes, you need to understand how light and shadow work and how shadow "edges" indicate the forms of your subject. And finally, how to better plan the values of light in your painting.

Gesture drawings are not about the contours of the body per se, but they help a lot when thinking of the simplest way of communicating a pose. The more solid is the read of a pose, the easier it will be to build on it.

There are a ton of other sources that help you figure out how to make your designs more appealing, but I don't have them off the top of my head.
Analyzing and trying to "copy" art you like is a good way to understand what makes them work.
