Basically, all stuff drawn by this guy. This one in particular is just so fucking good, that I couldn't resist and started doing something to achieve even an ounce of his mastery. I guess it would be this one. The subversion of cuteness, the raw emotion there's in it. Maybe I'm looking too much into it and seeing stuff that just isn't there, I don't know.
A guy shared it on a matrix server I was on and it made me feel stuff I didn't know I could feel, dunno much about the artist, reverse search didn't help either and I think I just saw him post once or twice here on /ic/, usually accompanied by people saying all sort of stuff, I guess it's fair.
Either way this piece is the one that inspired me, there are better pieces out there that's for sure but this is the one that did it for me

I find what you're posting quite fascinating, actually. The artist knows that they're drawing something that is generic, something that has been done a million times by his peers, so his attempt at distinguishing himself is to do something absolutely outlandish, in this case, using the copy paste tool to add a third eye above the second eye.

I think it's more or less proof of the concept, that you need to do some wild stuff to distinguish yourself if you're drawing anime.

>>6219841
I agree. Noses are so important to characters that removing them leaves you with little else to distinguish your characters. This is probably why Japanese characters have wild hair styles and hair colors, so you don't get them confused, despite them having nearly identical facial features.

You do realize that the paint below have noses, right? Nose is an extention of your skull inside. It is not a separated object on your face. Usually, when you draw noses, you depict it with light/shadow values and the nostril is quite hard to see naturally, unless you aim for a specific camera angle. That's just how you draw nose once you learn the basics about it. You don't need to draw ugly nose, always go for the appealing one.

Yeah, I'm just saying that nowadays at least, they don't have the facial nuances of real people in real life or even movies, because they're too abstracted; additionally, because in the common style of modern anime abstraction there's not much room for facial variation without it getting comical, you get sameface which combined with samey costume design leads to being able to identify some characters only by their hair
Your example is a good style, it fits the gritty mood of the show and the character stands out

What can i say is, modern anime is confused of its own idenity. It wanted to look believable but also wanted to look stylish and reductionish. The result is something you usually see today, characters mostly look like rotoscopes of teenagers with nothing intriguing going on with the artstyle. Some might argue that super stylish art like Saber Marionette or Getter Robo look too off, but then, those things have personality, meanwhile modern anime isn't. And apparently, modern Jap culture already too got used of the modern style, they can nolonger go back.

> you post something (regardless of quality) and they mock you.
> they fuck off and never answer cause they realize they are far below your level.

do not PYW if someone randomly ask you to, it's a waste of time.

For me i think I could never truly remember where it began... But I have to say, this series definitely was a big inspiration for me.
Shoulder a Coffin Kuro / Hitsugi Katsugi no Kuro
Truly a wonderfully drawn series though truth be told I haven't finished reading it yet. I only found out recently it ended... I think? Growing up I'd only read and reread the first couple of volumes over and over and over again.... I miss it.
I couldn't tell you if the series goes anywhere interesting but I can sure as hell tell you it builds up it's mysteries very very well
It's unfortunate that it isn't very well known...

Besides this I suppose CLAMP and Seinan Douman are two names that come to mind... Perhaps Ayami Kojima too? And Yoshitaka Amano? But I've been inspired by so so so many incredible artists and creations that it'd truly be hard for me to narrow it down

But it would be nice if more people checked out this niche little title

There is no "one image". Instead, it was the gimmick seen in Final Fantasy Tactics of doing an entire collection of beautiful character portraits. While this looks very cool, it's too obviously derived from either 3D or photo-references to let me appreciate it as an instance of outstanding technique.

I for one don't have a picture that "made me want to draw", to this day I have no artists I want to be like, but pic related was deeply inspiring to me in the sense that its silhouette really captivates me. It has the right balance between cartoony and serious/sleek, soft and sharp, it reminds me of the possibilities of 2D and why I like to draw.

Of course.
But to reach that 85k average, it means a vast majority of developpers are under 120k.
You're making it sound like 10k a month is a realistic expectation for an entry developper. It's not, it's litteraly 50% above average. Only 5% of developpers are likely to get that much at entry level

Pic related. Was browsing /ic/ a while back and there was an Art Nouveau thread involving Kay Nielsen. That's what really flicked the switch and made me go "time to actually learn this shit."
Another artist I found shorty after that gave me a similar effect was John Bauer. Specific works like Princess Tuvstarr gazing down into the dark waters of the forest tarn and Look at my sons! You won't find more beautiful trolls on this side of the moon.
