Because I already had an OC who is ok with bugs (picrel) I made him dislike bugs instead. Besides, I thought it would be funnier for him to hate bugs and be stuck with an illusory roach daughter. Also, where he lives, the outdoors is not a big bug issue. Since his town is freezing cold, more bugs are roaming indoors than outdoors.

Well it is troublesome that, if you draw your femboy too girly, it would be just "draw it a girl and call it a boy". If you under-deliver the girly aspect, he would look like Lady Beard.

The biggest thing that stands out to me is the inconsistent lighting. His face is getting these really dark red shadows while no other part of him is shaded like that. So i made the red shadows affect all of him, with a blue ambience to make it a bit less intense on the eyes. Using the colors in your piece in more than one place helps the palette stay more cohesive. The other thing is 3D forms, the snake was wrapped very stiffly around him. Try to think about your subject in a 3D space. Looking at a ref of a snake would go a very long way to make it more believable. Lastly trimming off the excess blotches at the bottom to make it look a bit more finished.

I'm sorry to hear that posting online brings you such worry, but I can assure you, your art is fantastic and many people, including myself, are very happy to be able to see it all gathered in one place. Believe me, you are not disappointing anyone with your work. You are extremely skilled and you make very appealing designs, to the point that I wish I had more guts to talk to you personally and learn more about your characters.
There is a reason I pestered you to make a social media account, and even tried to convince Jiangshi anon of the same thing. From the simplest of sketches to the detailed finished pieces, your work is very nice to look at and a gallery really helps wit that. No matter what you do, you will never feel good enough that won't go away, that's just part of the experience. But it's important to not let it hold you back.
You are enough, is kinda what pulled me through, it's not amazing or the best, but that you're just 'enough' and that's okay. But you are never alone in the way your feeling, countless artist share the same experience no matter the level of skillset.

I don't think I see the semi-realism on this, it looks quite cartoony, especially the face. To stylize something, it is good to look up artists that draw in a similar manner and try to study them.
As for the anatomy, I think others mention that it looks like a ftm because of a few things: The face shape is very round, lacking any sharp or square features that are considered masculine. The width of the shoulders/torso is as big as that of the hips, when ideally, male body types have an inverted triangle shape to them. The bit of chubbiness and lack of muscle definition also make him look softer, and softness is always associated with femininity. Looking up reference helps a ton when trying to figure out anatomy.
Take the advice with a grain of salt, I am not particularly good at giving feedback.

Like I said before, studying reference and other artists really helps. Gather a visual library and set a goal for yourself. It will take some time to get into the habit of drawing more realistically (since your work is still quite cartoony, especially when it comes to the face like another anon mentioned) but having some art inspo on the side while drawing might make things easier.

If you look up semi-realism, more often than not, the examples have proportions and rendering closer to realism, with the stylized elements pushing it slightly towards the anime look, especially on the face. Maybe there is some additional stylization in the color choices or the background.
We might be talking about entirely different things, so an example of the kind of look you want to achieve might be useful. Again, build up that visual gallery and try to replicate what you like in your own work.

what you circled isnt the back its the trapezius muscle and grown over the back of the neck and it rather pronounced on a muscular man. i'd recommend picking up anatomy book ( morpho and steve huston are great one) , not to grind for all of eternity, but just enough to pick up on basic construction enough to familiarize yourself with what you're seeing in people art work.

How you position the body can help translate what you wish to show, even with a muscle cow body, also giving him a more bashful or gentle expression.
You could try putting him in a bird perspective, so he doesn't come across as strong or intimidating.

That's the best advice I can give you.
What I notice is that your blending lacks directions, Also be cautious where and how you put your shadows and highlight. How the shadows actually falls on the figure.
I'd actually recommend you to avoid rendering/blending for now and focusing on just doing flats and shadows, don't blend anything, just do flats and work with that until your comfortable with it, then you can also add highlights, but again don't blend. Don't work with more than 3 layers, each layer it's on color.

1.Flat color on the figure
2.Shadows
3.Highlight

Also study photos from real life, if you better want to understand colors, shadow and lights.

Basically four main things I can notice. You are using the airbrush "wrong", the airbrush, or at least how I like to use, is better suited for almost imperceptible gradients between each color, while your are hard and soft with no reason or too jarring that gives that gross muddy look. You colors kinda suck too, they are too saturated in all the wrong places and so it makes things look off. I think you are trying to give the ruborous of the skin but you are better changing the hue of the color skin instead of just saturating going from a more soft pink to a red tone instead of a being this red-orange. Third black outline on this art style. Bad! Bad, shotafag.

Finally, the worse offender and what I really want to highlight is your face geometry, you are trying to apply some more realistic face geometry giving volume to the cheeks and nose while this sort of thing can look really bad on most anime semi realistic style, you can make it work, sure, but is something that only works with certain proportion and light angles. This used to be a mistake I commited a lot when I drew on this sort of style and something I wish people had me told you way back. If you are drawing anime faces, even on a more complex shading you want to flat the face features, focusing one on a few feature to give the contour of some really simple shape, if you do something too complex it breaks the appeal of the simplicity of the anime like face and looks uncanny, no different if you do ultra realism with cartoon characters like those home simpsons drawings.

I provided you with some really shitty simplification of how I broke the face planes and geometry to this style in particular, I have a few of those and depends a lot on the style I'm going for but I think for yours this should work fine. Just keep in mind that simplicity=appeal and try no to overwork your drawings with too much detail when not necessary.

His proportions are different than yours and the expression is waaaay different, that's why it works. He is giving volume to the cheeks to account to the mouth open while yours is not necessary. So it looks uncanny in a way because your character has this big ass cheeks while his they look okay if you account for the face distortion the smile would cause.
