I always feel like "schizo artists" always try too hard to prove themselves as schizo, or delude themselves into. As far as i can tell, artists with actual mental illnes draw quite normal looking artworks. It is the content of the normal drawings they contain usually very questionable.

I think schizo art is more of a specific artstyle/category of artstyles that are usually messy/scribbly, edgy, usually tackles some sort of negative emotion or mental illness rather than art done by an actual schizophrenic.
For example Terry A Davis's elephant drawing, sure its a drawing and its done by a schizophrenic , but I dont think most would call it schizo art , or at the very least it sure as hell doesnt fit the expectation of what it looks like. The "last drawing before a schizophrenic commited suicide" drawing with that messy looking
screaming person made by some Gulaggh member fits perfectly.

You just take out your emotions on the paper. At the deepest ends of my depression I like to draw vague themes of violence and spam swear words which I immediately censor. I press the pen hard against the paper as if to hurt it. I imagine my pen is a knife and scribble as if I were cutting flesh.

I almost always end up throwing the resulting art away because those feelings are shameful and I don't want people to figure out how broken I am and ask questions.
