Why You Should Copy Anime:
https://i.imgur.com/zNDsyF0.jpg
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbKqIJcIUCw

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

Do a lot of studies from real life photos and good artist's works. Analyze how wrinkles and folds are simplified. The key skill is to be able to convey form and flow with fewer lines/strokes.

Well, that was a difficult angle. The problems I can see: hairs are flat, pinkie is broken, collar is in a wrong perspective, necktie looks wonky, blazer's rendering looks dirty. Also not sure about values, maybe need to push darks further. Any crits are welcome.

I'm pretty sure you've heard this way too many times anon but you should practice how to make a continuous line where each stroke connects with one another and avoid chicken scratches/flat spots. Or using multiple straight lines to "carve" complex curves, which could also help you to develop an understanding towards the importance of angles. Then again there's no "one size fits all" solution but it's worth giving it a shot.

Also, It'd help if you could pack multiple exercises into a single sheet so you can avoid spamming 12 drills per post.

Thank you, but my process is nothing unique. I basically do sketch, clear it. Throw basic colors under sketch, paint over with 2 brushes - round brush with and without opacity and i can use air brush in some specific situations like with the suit on the left. I use fkeys work as reference for rendering and faces.
I do render in more traditional fashion tho, like i paint with patches of color rather than using layer modes etc. I was like this since forever and it always seemed natural to me compared to cell shading.
I read some books but they are just random books from sticky. Hampton, perspective made easy, a little bit of robertson, peter han, read some random anime books from artbooks and watched a bunch of random courses like prokos anatomy course.

Just drawing hair or rendering?
You abstract hair to big clumps that move 3-dimensionally.
Details (smaller hair clumps, never draw single strands for anime) are conveyed through shading.
For practice, just choose a number of artists and copy their heads, while only drawing their hair.

Realistic rendering of cartoon hair is tough, but I know an obscure Youtube creator who made some cool tutorials and streams.

I recently understood the part about reducing hair to big clumps, but I have difficulty when deciding what volumes to create

I feel like an idiot, if im not copying a hairstyle from a reference i get stumped, or draw a very simple hairstyle because if I try to get fancy it looks bad.

I think that to get decent hair i have to paint it in layers, so first i paint/render one clump of hair, then another one that partially covers the previous one because it's in front, etc. I can't draw elaborate hair with lines. The way I do it is not time efficient, it takes me forever compared to other people

What's hard about this?

Download Koikatsu, try out different hair option, make screenshots, create a hair compilation with your screenshots.
Do this for front view, 3/4th view and side view.

This should be very easy to practice. Koikatsu hair comes in big lumps of hair stacked on just a couple of layers, which is perfect, since that's how hair is usually constructed.

If you mean the big archive, it's notion notes from Krenz's main courses and a few bonus workshops and lectures, while the google drive is homework files for krenz kindergarten pre-course accuracy bootcamp ran by some other people.

Is there a Krenz study group? I want to go through accuracy (weeks 1-4, skipping the dlc) and then start on perspective, but I could use some extrinsic motivation.

You mean the one I linked? I thought it was a pre-course by Victor cloux for his own course or something like that. The dead link indicates there were weeks 1-6 whereas the drive has 1-4 7-8 in it, so I was hoping some anon would have the 5-6, as well as the pdf (though I think it might just be his book).
If you want to go through the weeks 1-4 in the drive I mentioned I'm up for that too.

Cause if it's this then I'd like to have a buddy to go through it with, otherwise then that's too bad. If it's a different thing could you share files for it too? Assuming there are any and it's not some cctalk group or something

I've been drawing for the same amount of time but a lot of time wasted due to lack of discipline and aimlessly drawing without a goal in mind. It really is all about focused practice to get the speed and consistency. I mean if you don't really care and want to just get good gradually and at your own pace that's not wrong either. But damn I wish I hadn't wasted so much time only to cram it all now trying to get good.

I compared the Pre-Course with what I want to learn from Krenz and for now I think I'm only interested in using 单体结构 sheets to try disassembling and turning objects in perspective. The squiggles are grindy and tedious compared to copying drawings, which is a compound exercise, and in the end Victor Cloux just isn't anime.

I feel like you overemphasized the fold on her left arm. You also drew the front of her left shoe incorrectly. Notice in the image how the tip of the shoe rises upward and isn’t completely flat like you drew it. I should be seeing the bottom of the shoe from the perspective you drew. Her body also just isn’t very feminine as it isn’t curvy enough and the abdomen area just looks very masculine. Other than that, I appreciate this and the colors used, good job

Don't give up, anon! You don't have to be a master to enjoy drawing, you don't even have to be good. You can take your time to gitgud while also drawing stuff you like. Not only that, but the last thing you should do is turn drawing into a chore. If all you do is study all day, of course it's gonna suck dick and you'll wanna quit, but that shouldn't be what drawing is about. Try your best to not get caught up in the "become great as efficiently as possible otherwise I've failed" meme that seems popular with everyone from guitarists to artists these days. If you can quit drawing, you don't need it to survive, so you should just take it at your own pace. You don't need to master everything before you're allowed to draw your own stuff. I mean yeah you should still study, but take some time to draw what YOU want, not what you think you should be drawing. Drawing for the sake of getting good or making it is a waste of time unless it's your sole lifeline out of poverty somehow. We live in an age where people can, in theory, pursue any hobby they desire at any time. Unironically don't let the other people get you down. Giving up a hobby that you wanted just because some people said you were wasting time or w/e. Anyways I'm basically schizoposting now. The point is, if you wanna draw, just do it. You can get better as you go along. Don't give up what could be a lifelong hobby over something as little as this.

I don't think I have what it takes to be good at drawing. Each time I try I just don't enjoy the process of it. The drawing looks strange and unattractive. People much less practice draw faster and better drawings and people I think really need to fix some of their stuff have "that". They can really illustrate what is going on. My image are difficult to read. And the more detail it takes the worse I get. Basically the only thing I can do is draw one character standing upright with hands still and the most simplified hair imaginable. I hate myself. I really should stop torturing myself with the impossible. I don't know what should I do to imporove. I tried copying until I burned out.

First typing it out should provide insight to yourself, and for us it'll be easier to tell what the real problem is.

My guess is that you probably have a pre-conceived idea of what making art is, as entailed by you compairing yourself to others. What you need to understand is that for each artist there is a different process. The process of making art is not a firm objective metric ー you make your own process.

Study artists you look up, figure out what you need to change in your process to tweak your art into ressembling more what you're looking up to.

Use however many layers (even if it's just 2 or 3) and however much time you need to. The whole "15min/less time" thing is weird. Have you ever visited /i/? There are good artists there and sometimes they take hours for things which aren't inherently amazing but it's just how it is. Art takes time.

To compare both the main thing is that they have light and dark defined on the figure and you don't. So get your brain to be more aware of this. If you never experienced this now you'd never get to fix it, so celebrate instead of being a doomer, especially when you're already a lot better than most of the people in this thread.

If you have a regular tablet then this may not make a difference.
On a screen tablet what this will do is it will change the processing of the stroke to take directly from the tablet. I noticed that when I have the Win Tab preference enabled CSP inherently has a bit of processing to your stroke that smooths out your line, but makes the performance of the stroke slightly delayed (even with 0 stabilization), which heavily annoyed me. In Photoshop it doesn't do this. You will notice at higher resolutions when zoomed out and you draw slowly the lines will won't be as smooth but feel more accurate and fast. If you've drawn traditionally before, that feeling of the tip of the pen being exactly where your cursor is will be there now.

I would then go and disable "press and hold" for right clicking and almost all the Windows Ink bullshit in Windows as you can so that you don't have anything getting in the way of making smooth, responsive strokes. Ironically, specifically in your Tablet Driver setting you may have to keep the "Windows Ink" box ticked on as for some programs like Photoshop and CSP it won't detect Win Tab if that's not on.

and if you are drawing anime girls, you wanna show cuteness(picrel), so you over exaggerate the forehead.

Yeah, they kind of resemble toddlers, but even toddler heads look tame in comparison.
It's weird and unintuitive, which is probably why so many westerns have trouble adapting to the art style.

i think you have to exagerate the forehead a little bit because of the eyes, it would be weird if the eyes are big but you use a realistic forehead size

the posrture is weak she looks like shes trying to balance her weight by the way her left feet is in full contact with the ground and the other leg is just dangling, arms are not that bad but they could be a bit more dynamic , the head too, her torso is pretty stiff too and why is she holding that book from the bottom is harder that way
