Today's Beg Challenge: Draw a loaf of bread.

If you are a /beginner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

Sticky:

Old: http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-draw-learn

New collaborative sticky (anyone can edit): https://hackmd.io/UMnZVhNITW-T2wZpHw6d0Q

RECOMMENDED BOOKS FOR BEGINNERS:
- The Art and Science of Drawing
- Perspective Drawing Handbook
- Figure - Design and invention
- Pen and Ink
- The Natural Way To Draw

TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3uxMdokX68

REMINDER TO IGNORE POSTS VIOLATING RULE 1
"All images and discussion should pertain to the critique of visual artwork."
(ex art dumps, posts without text, posters that don't ask questions or seek help)

anon, you're retarded. your eyes aren't heavily stylized nor are the ones you just posted, i'm guessing that your problem is that you copy what you see instead of imagining what the structure behind it is like. which is perfectly fine when you're doing a basic angle like this, but when you try something different you're gonna have to do what the other anon said and start drawing eyeballs and slapping eyelids onto them. once you get the basic shape right you can morph into anything you'd like, including these very almond-shaped and asian ones

also to speed things up you can try using the tablet instead of your mouse when youre using your computer, and also play some kind of game that need coordination with the cursor like Osu! or something

also just use the stabilizer from wtv software youre using, it helps

but again, its just hand eye coordination gained by experience,

maybe they say it looks muddy because either your tablet has shitty color calibration or the people have shitty colors on their monitors,

leftmost looks like shit on my normal monitor that is just a basic office monitor, but on my huion it looks decent albeit desaturated cuz the normal monitor doesnt pick up well on the subtle hues but your tablet prob has a certain color calibration that makes you pick desaturated colors cuz they "look" saturated enough even tho they arent

do an experiment of copying somethings colors with the ref on a normal screen, then put the same ref on your tablet, if the copied piece from the normal screen has more desaturated colors, then you found the problem, which isnt necessarily your tablet being bad but you just need to get used to a screen take picks up on hues better so pick more saturated colors than you think

but if these "people" have good monitors then maybe you have shit calibration, who knows, anyways it does seem like a color calibration problem

this also explains why the other versions are just you making them brighter and even more desaturated

Because Im not buying the 'only 10 minutes' bullshit and neither should anyone.
People who come up with that shit usually have the time management of a carrot, or spend literal hours playing videogames, or simply consuming social media.
Its nothing but an excuse to convince themselves not to draw, because lets be honest, learning how to draw requires EFFORT.
And playing vidya or mindlessly looking at social media requires zero, which makes it for a hard choice.

These people like the idea of drawing, but not the actual drawing and learning process associated. They want to be good, but without any of the required effort.

at certain points its harder, but at that point i just compare to a better artist and try to draw their drawings (as a general reference and not a direct copy) and figure out why I'm still lacking in comparison and that usually leads me in the general direction.

Good job Anon, especially from imagination but a lot to critique regardless. Left arm (on the man, not in the image as directly seen) completely lacks an upper arm and the arm bend/hand is misplaced. The crotch is not shaped like that but would point towards the bottom of the belt buckle. You just completely stopped using highlights past the shoes it seems, it could use way more of that. Im a stupid fuck ass /beg/ who needs way too much guidance to make any kind of progress.
I keep jumping between concepts (anatomy, perspective, construction) without making any kind of progress in anything.

Is there any course/book with PLENTY of exercises? Most I've seen barely give you a couple exercises for every concept and simply add "practice yourself".
No, nigger, I need you to tell me "now instead of drawing a bell pepper, do the same with a tomato, a garlic, an onion, a watermelon and a shoe, two times each.

I need to be given SPECIFIC exercises and instructions, not to be told to 'just practice'.

Does something like this exist or am I doomed?

eyes aren't really balanced, her right eye seems substantially bigger than her left despite perspective nad whatnot.
hand is kinda funky too.

work on your lines too, they're relatively clumsy especially on the hair.
also for some reason her stomach is sticking out and her tits are far too large, that's not normal humanoid anatomy.

nta but, theres not one over the other they teach the same shit but different methods so you might understand things better form one resource than the other

but hampton has an edge when it comes to pure anatomy study, his book goes way more indepth into anatomy and construction of all these forms in 3D space

while resource slike Vilppu and Houston dont go that much indepth into anatomy and stay more inside the area of gesture and figure drawing methods

in the end the "best" is to have a method for gesture and figure drawing and a good resource for pure anatomy, Hampton can be both, but something like Vilppu or Houston methods + Hampton would be best to cover all your bases in learning

honorable mention to Bridgman, but he is a bit weird i the sense you already need some idea of figure ad anatomy to understand wtf he does

And finally, never listen to dogmatic opinion that go to extremes of "x is better than the rest", because almost always the answer of "the best" is a mix of many resources instead of dogmatically following only 1

I think for an outfit that elaborate a fancy cocktail would've been a better choice, but that's my preference. Technically this is not terrible, but I think you could liven up your poses by pushing your gesture a bit more.

How can I learn to draw like this? Im not a very good artist, but drawings like this can look pretty cool and creative despite being difficult technically. Another example is the mangaka tsukumizu.

Do i need to learn to draw realistically first, or is it possible to just do nice drawings like this?
