Hand-Hiding Edition.

If you are a /beginner or /int/ermediate in art, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the drawthread with fundamental exercises.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in MSPaint

READ THE STICKY:
http://www.squidoo.com/how-to-draw-learn

RECOMMENDED BOOKS FOR BEGINNERS:
- The Art and Science of Drawing
- Perspective Drawing Handbook
- Figure - Design and invention
- Pen and Ink
- The Natural Way To Draw

TRY TO BE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK.
When giving feedback, avoid vague "advice" - point what's wrong and try to give the anon you're quoting a clear direction to improve their art (study heads < watch THIS VIDEO about head structure, read THIS SECTION of THIS ARTIST'S BOOK, etc).
You, feedback seeking anon, should also try to be clear and concise when asking for critique/help. When posting your artwork, say what you want help with, and what's your goal with the study/artwork.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3uxMdokX68

REMINDER TO IGNORE POSTS VIOLATING RULE 1
"All images and discussion should pertain to the critique of visual artwork."
(ex art dumps, posts without text, posters that don't ask questions or seek help)

Do you guys have a niche eg: character illustrations, horror, backgrounds etc?

Mine is comic backgrounds but I feel like my character drawing skills suck too much any hope of making anything popular so I'm torn between taking the landscape pill and focusing on background illustrations only or trying to improve my character drawing skills enough to be good enough to make a semi successful webtoon.

Where do i start posting my art where people could casually see it and i could slowly build a following?
My first idea was something like twitter, since a lot of people use it and it isnt just solely for art, but i very much dislike the general twitter user base. Perhaps a twitter account where i dont follow anyone and dont interact but post art? How would people find me anyway? Hashtags?

Okay, second exercise from drawing on the right side of the brain, the upside down Picasso drawing.
I intentionally didn't block anything out before hand like she says, and also sectioned off the picture 1 bit at a time which lead to things getting kind of skewed over time, like obviously his right arm is gigantic. but I just tried to draw the lines I could see at one time like it says to.

The head on the left is acceptable as >>6179522 says.. Variation in the human face exists in reality. There's some wonky construction going on in the head on the right, though. The lower half of the face is a touch too long for the sphere as it's drawn. The sphere itself is small for the head. That's just by my estimation, though.

anything beginning with simple geometric and organic 3D forms first

recommend going to the artbook general links or just zlib and get Vilppu drawing manual and focus on the initial parts of drawing cubes annd other forms then bending ad squishing them until you can draw those simple hapes form memory no problem

then you can continue into the simple gesture drawing part along with drawing for yourself simple objects like plants, injects, shoes etc so you get used to the basics of a human figure without burden of studying anatomy right away and putting 3D form drawing to practise with the objects

from here it will depends from person to person and what they want to do but starting with 3D forms and drawing simple objects/gesture is the best way to learn from the ground up

What are good drawing stand recommendations? I heard it's really good for your neck overall and more importantly I am just working on my desk table and I've lost one too many drawings from eraser marks. I mainly do traditional art albeit I'm trying to move into digital as well so anything that can hold paper, hold an iPad and not consume the entire table is highly appreciated. If the type of traditional art matters I'm mainly using pencils I have a small set up for paintings already.

The upper half of the torso isn't too bad. The pectorals are way too small. The ribcage could be bigger. The center line is improperly placed. Still, it looks like some thought went into constructing the body. I don't know what's up with that left arm, though. Did you put it in the picture just to have it in the picture?

You run into trouble with the lower half. Placement of the navel on a woman is below the waist. The box you've drawn to indicate the hips is too big. Which causes the thighs to be disproportionate with the body, which leads you to cram the lower legs and feet into the bottom of the frame. These are things you learn not to do with practice and study. Proportion. Anatomy. You've got a long road ahead of you.

In reference to the right head, when drawing a loomis head, the top of the ear should be approx. at the horizontal plane of the cross drawn in the center of the cutoff circle. This line should follow to the front of the face and mark the eyebrows. The the bottom of the ear should be at the bottom of the cutoff circle where it meets with the jaw, and a line follows from there to the front of the face to mark the nose.

It really isn't, not when you're already 29 and a half. It's much closer to 10, and then you have to factor in the existing issues that made it impossible for you to start before, and then you have to budget for the time to actually dedicate to drawing. I've fallen asleep to art streams multiple times, I know firsthand I totally lack the enthusiasm for the constant, constant checking, the canvas rotating, managing all the layers, and that's what happens AFTER you've successfully grinded all the basics.

Do a lot of gesture while studying primitives and perspective, you want to internalize the perspective in your construction process and have enough familiarity with the human form to use it, 30% gesture 70% perspective I would say.

I used to suck at perspective until one year ago or so until it clicked, something that helped also was using "spirals" in the construction process so i could complete visualize the "form" of the cylinder with the lines. But is also something I internalize overtime.

Cubes, cylinders, pyramids, etc... Anything you use in your construction process, do enough were you don't need the perspective grid anymore and you can eyeball it enough were doesn't look fucked up and use in the same process as you do some gesture. My personal approach for this sort of pose is just trying to visualize a bunch of one point vanish points while drawing each body part but each one going in a different direction, all inside my head. If you do enough perspective studies no different of how you learn to draw anime eyes or how you learn what makes a good looking face this becomes second nature and easier, if you do enough of it there is.

first time trying out this sort of rendering and lighting after doing lineart + flat colors for ages, any thoughts? i kinda signified where i want the highlights to be, but i honestly think i should push it a bit further like how i did the face (which was on a complete whim desu) but i genuinely can't think of where the light should go and how harsh i should make it
also this looks way more washed out on my computer than it does on my tablet, could someone just tell me how it looks like on their screen? is it readable or does it need more contrast?

Okay, first of all, I constructed. That was a drawing that I used construction for. Notice how it's noticeably worse than my non-construction drawings? It's because I'm better at drawing without it.
Sure, construction is important, but I never said I'm skipping construction I'm merely warming up since I haven't drawn in six months. Construction is a chore, without warming up to drawing I won't be able to do something like that for every drawing I make.
Also I was aware that the right arm was too long and the vagina was missing.
Secondly your perspective for the boobs and sword is wrong. Here's the ref.

That's not perspective study though, that's just drawing objects. It's not "perspective" as in the field of study people refer to in art. I still doubt it will teach me eye shape though. The eye is a socket, a pocket, not an object. It's an empty void. It should be learned separately.
