It would be a neat piece, but decorating your house with fluffy girls sounds like it would fall under the social tyranny middle class people face if you're changing your own decor to avoid disapproval of guests/colleagues.

I knew a guy once who had a tv on the wall that just displayed furry porn but he worked for himself. I felt really uncomfortable in that setting though since I never seen a home setting where there's friggen yiff tugging at my eyes during our conversation.

Very cute. At a glance, I don't think her proportions look that bad. Nothing jumps out. I'm also an amateur myself, so it may be that I'm missing something glaring. I don't really know what her pose is trying to convey, but it's not broken or anything. Maybe it looks a bit stiff?

I really like her tail/fur details, and the folds on her clothes, which are really easy to overdo. Her face is very cute too. Very squeezable. The shadows are simple, but pretty effective. I think the only thing you could do to improve it is really just refining the linework a bit. It's really straddling the line between textured and chickenscratch.

keep in mind I'm just going by eye, but it looks like you're painting the shadows as the base color but darker (which in the sphere example is top right, Negative lightness). Actually what I was trying to do with this pic, albeit poorly it looks like, was shading in grayscale and applying a gradient map. I might just need to adjust some colors. I'll mess with it a bit.

>> No.6185959

Yes.

You're not going to like this but I would not recommend using gradient maps for shadows at least for a finished piece, because you have to remember that shadows exist as an alteration of the base color and a representation of the light sources. In this example you'll start with the lit orange, then to find the shadow color you'll adjust that lit orange making it lighter or darker to show the power of the light casting the shadow, and warmer or color to show the color of the light.

>>6185944
I understand what you mean now, you can ignore most of what I've said for this piece since it would take exponentially longer to finish. But you're rendering is pretty good, with more color theory you could get very good very fast.

Sorry, I just need to say this because it gets repeated so much, but it's not a direct cause and effect. A warm light will not automatically create a cool shadow. The shadow hue will be the result of ambient and bounced light around the shadow area. The reason it gets repeated is that usually the outside world will have a warm light (sun) and the shadows influenced by the cool ambiance (sky). It gets recommended because it's a neat trick to create contrast in a painting, but it's not an actual magic happening in shadow colour

As for the empty space, the wall feels fine, because all my attention should be on the trophies, so if you want to add anything, maybe some small furniture that's mostly out of frame? If you keep each base color on their own separate layers and are able to select each individual layers, you can do some wonders with grayscale values by changing the hues on a per-base color-basis. Add some more gradients and spin the wheel on the layer properties and hues until you find something that works. If you go a step further you can select and change those extra gradients on a per-base color-basis as well.

It's a workflow I use often and refer to it as "lazy shading" because it's fast and sloppy but it makes things really pop. It isn't accurate nor am I an expert in values or color theory but damn son I am lazy.

Understandably, keeping each color on it's own layer can have you end up with a LOT of layers, so it might not work for everyone.

If I'm not feeling lazy then I use "hard shades" which is just proper, manual rendering (I still use gradient layers on top). Turns out infinitely better but it's easily 10x more taxing and time consuming

What else have I missed?
I was looking through old drawings of her and I noticed that she looks different in almost every drawing.

It does look like a cat! If you want to make it look more realistic, then I would suggest making the snout bigger, I find that the width of the snout is only a little smaller than the width of the head (the orbital bones specifically, cat hair tends to make the head look bigger). The ears could also be made smaller, but there are breeds that have bigger ears, not to mention my favorite cat, the noble serval.

This is a lesson I wish I had learned a lot earlier as an artist. Lines with no pressure tend to look better, and you can always cut off the end to simulate tapering.

I agree with >>6183556 that it's hard to tell what the pose is conveying. The thigh closer to her tail isn't properly connecting to her hip, and the center of balance (roughly the belly button) should be somewhat over the center of support. If you jutted her hip outwards and moved her left leg outwards as well it would look more natural. I hope this doesn't come off too harshly, it's a sweet piece.

You're clearly talented. I think maybe you're just at that level where you're better than a lot of people, but maybe not as good as you'd like to be, and so it becomes difficult to see the value in your art. It's hard for a lot of artists to really allow themselves to feel good about their work, it seems.

But if that image is supposed to be indicative of worsening quality, then I dunno. Maybe it's because I don't have a reference point, but that looks quite good, even disregarding that it's a sketch. The anatomy is pleasing to look at, all the little insect-y joints in her appendages and digits look good. I like her head. This could easily be something more. What issues are you having with it specifically? Why is it 'worse' than your usual art?

I like the color work. But a few of the muscles seem really off. The tricep terminates at the elbow, and the muscles on top of the forearm are for flexing the wrists. So there should be definite separation of those muscles. And the inner head of his quads bulge out a bit too much. Even the roided-out monsters in body building don't have that. Same for the calves, should be a more gently curve.

If you want to make good looking buff dudes, check out Dorian Yates for a reference. IMO, although he was obviously roided up, he was the last aesthetic body builder while being huge.

Dave Draper is another personal favorite. He's from the Golden Era of body building (60s) when the dudes were probably on roids, but their physique was still reasonable.

Body builders by build:
>Good looking roid monster
Dorian Yates
>Hourglass figure, classic physique
Arnold Schwarzengger
>Leaner, longer limb, more elegant physique

I know that's easy for me to say (though I'm also struggling in the same department AND I'm not as skilled as you seem to be), but we gotta keep our chins up.

If you really want to start taking comms, then you have to advertise yourself like crazy. Draw fanart of characters you like, and even for other people. It's a shitty truth of social media that you HAVE to maintain a presence for the algorithm god to keep its attention on you.

No. There are some absolutely amazing artists out there that struggle to get commissions. Having to compete with the surges of cheap russian commission spam on FA for instance makes getting more eyes on your work difficult.
You just need to market yourself somehow.
For me, it was drawing niche fetish art and getting a following while offering some free requests here and there to get the commission portfolio going. It takes a while to collect the watchers.
