6170384 No.6170384 [Reply] [Original]

This is a thread to discuss all kinds of digital drawing hardware: non-display graphics tablets, pen display tablets, portable tablets and more.

Why you should not trust youtube shills:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Twy5Wo8m284

If you have any additional questions, ask them.
Remember to ignore all chinese shills.

>I'm thinking of getting the Wacom One, should I buy it?
Fuck off retard. Ask a better question.

Recommended tablets:

>Intuos 3
Best screenless tablet. Look for one on Craigslist or Ebay.
>Intuos 4, 5 & Pro
Also good options. Will burn through your nibs.
>Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite
Budget portable display tablet. Very solid drawing experience with Wacom EMR tech, but a small 10.4" display area.
>Used iPad Pro 2nd Gen 12.9"
Best option for a display tablet.
>Galaxy Tab S7+/S8+
Good premium alternative to an iPad Pro

>Avoid:

>XP-Pen, Huion, Gaomon and every other Chinese brand
Poor build quality, lackluster pens, broken tilt, struggles to register light pressure, horrible customer support and the displays are not calibrated. All Chinese brands are basically the same because they're all centralized. Check out the webm to understand how bad they are. Also watch out, Chinese companies shill HARD on /ic/; they do a lot of samefagging and frequently hurl personal insults.

>Microsoft Surface Pro
The N-Trig digitizer means you will always get wobbly lines.

>Lenovo
Bad drawing performance because they're not designed with art in mind.

>iPads (brand new)
>iMacs and Macbooks
Never buy this garbage under any circumstance. It's a locked ecosystem with rubbish hardware you can't upgrade.

Imagine being poor and Brazilian. Imagine being so poor, and so Brazilian, that you cannot afford any tablets (nevermind a proper one like an iPad or Wacom Cintiq Pro) but you fantasize that having one would suddenly turn your life around and turn you into a good artist.

Now imagine that you also have no self-discipline so you don't even draw on the shitty copy paper and huehuepencils that exist around you and instead just continue to fantasize about these magical devices that would make you into an artist.

Instead of spending any time drawing or studying you spend all your internet time arguing about things you don't understand and recirculating random internet shitposts which your small brain has taken as gospel because you trust "word of mouth" more than you do any other source, regardless of the fact that most people posting on 4chan are talking out of their ass.

If you're going to be mostly using this for drawing in these tablets are basically identical (almost). The S7 and the FE version have LCD displays but the plus version will have an AMOLED display. This might be helpful if you care about color accuracy and want to be able to see deeper blacks. S7FE also wax Air Gesture support with the pens and has no Bluetooth connectivity, so you lose out on minor things like your tablet being able to let you know if you left The pen behind somewhere, or being able to program the button to do specific actions (hold down the button to trigger the eraser function, hold down the button to trigger a specific pen configuration, etc). Otherwise, they're all are basically the same tablet. Which one is better? That depends on your wants and needs.

I don't experience line wobble, and I leave the line stabilizer turned off. I know some people have some issues with wobble (not specific to any brand or model of tablet) but I suspect some of that is caused by a driver issue or slow CPU.

Tilt bushes work flawlessly.

The nib moves a lot less than a millimeter with pressure, not enough for me to notice, but I guess it might bother some people.

I have a light touch so I have to adjust the pressure curve to get a thick line with moderate pressure.

Your friend can draw with the ipad but you'd have to buy him an apple pencil alongside it separately because it doesn't come bundled with it.

No need to install weird shit but he would need to download a drawing app on the ipad like procreate or clip studio in order to draw.

If he has a mac that's sidecar-capable he can technically use it as a monitor with said mac as well as tablet but it's a slight fucking pain in the ass to set up and get working the first time. I've run photoshop in that setup and I would take any cintiq or huion over that mess.

Above statement is not something that will ever work with a PC.

For on the go drawing, I actually wanted to draw with it more after I got one of those magnetic multi-angle covers for it along with a paperfeel screen protector, but I'm also a dumb bitch about this sort of thing.

OP is delusional. The Wacom One is a totally viable display tablet, especially if your upgrading from screen less. You might find that the screen size is too small, but that depends on personal preference. This artist uses a Wacom One when he isn't working traditionally.

Wacom cintiq, huion kamvas, xp pen artist pro, samsung galaxy tab s7 - s8. If you liked the ipad then you'll probably just like the ipad. But maybe if someone local is selling one of those other tablets you could meet up and try it out to see what you think of that kind of tablet.

With display tablets you'll get more screen space and better pressure sensitivity and accuracy from the stylus, and you can use better programs. But none of them have good touch controls, so if thats the reason you liked the ipad you should stick to that or samsung. If you liked it because you were using an apple only program like procreate then just get the ipad bc theres not a good alternative to that program yet.

I've had a Huion for a couple of years now, and the way it feels is that each region of the tablet gets calibrated individually when you run the calibration software - I presume it's a cheap way to try to keep up with the different ways you hold your stylus when working on different parts of the screen. No, those mobile tablets will not work directly with your PC out of the box, you also have to buy special app for it.
You have little to no options for bigger sizes, either.

The best -budget- (new) option is either of the much-maligned Chinese brands: Huion or XP-pen.
Generally don't trust anything /ic/ has to say negative about them, those folk (naturally) have no actual experience with the tablets and just crab anyone who does. They are fine for drawing, but Huion's service I would rate a bit better than XP-pen.

Alternatively, second-hand Wacom Cintiqs are just as good, often cheaper and you won't get shamed by these eggs for owning one.

Get Huion or XP-Pen. From what I hear the XP-Pen's stylus is a little more "wobbly" and needs more stabilizer so I am biased towards Huion. There is no point in getting an iPad or Samsung Galaxy Tab if you're just using it to hook up to your PC.

Eh, they have barrel rotation in some models, most of their styluses have erasers on the back if you're into that. They still have a patent on the transmitter for the stylus being very close to the tip, so you get less cursor drift on tilts. Probably the best touch controls you can get in a tablet that isnt an ipad or samsung. Built in stabilizers in the drivers, though I'm noticing other companies are doing this now too. Their display tablets come factory calibrated, and pretty much most of them have a good contrast ratio and color range. They do have the best vesa arm mounts for their cintiqs, hands down. No wobbling shit when you raise it and draw on it. Probably the only accessory they sell thats worth a shit. Hi /dtg/- I'm looking into getting my first tablet. I've a budget of £100, so I figured I'd get an Deco because they're apparently cheap and reliable for what they cost.

Is there any real difference between the 01v2 and the 03 models? Because I've been looking, and so far the only thing I've consistently seen mentioned is the fact "the 03 has a wheel."

I have a 24 pro and honestly after trying my friend's kamvas out, I think the kamvas is better. The 24 pro is still really good for the price, it's been my main tabet for about 2 years. But it just doesn't feel as nice.

I can get a new huion 24 (2.5k) for around $700 after tax, or a slightly used xp pen 24 for $450 locally
Do you feel the huion was $250 better?
This will hopefully be the only tablet I buy for years, so if it's that noticeably different I'd rather shell out the extra for it

>> No.6187771

>>6187673
The huion has a better screen, better colors and resolution, and the stylus feels better to draw with. It feels like it has less cursor drift on tilt, and I could make lighter strokes with the kamvas than I could on my xp pen. It doesn't have a screen protector so it probably will get scuffed over time, so youd want to consider putting a photodon on it if you got it. My friend's has some scuffs on it they're not super noticeable and dont catch the stylus, but it did happen even though he changes nibs when they wear out. Idk if it was dust getting caught or what but yeah thats the only downside I really saw. Also I really like the tablet wheels on the xp as opposed to the touch strips on the kamvas but that's probably a personal weird thing. I wish the kamvas had wheels lol.

Any laptop users? I wanna go simple and use a laptop only. I've carried around used ipads and galaxy s6 lite before, but seeing that Samsung is now using the same screen technology from their tab S series to some of their laptops I've decided it would just be better if I can just carry one laptop with me instead of laptop(for various uses)+tablet(drawing only). I've also read some Lenovo screens have been actually useful for drawing for quite some time now and also heard LG is good. Any recommendations? I do not care about gaming btw

Samsung or lenovo, though the lenovos that are good for drawing are old as fuck and hard to get for a reasonable price. If you go for the samsung then get a different stylus, s-pens are too thin. Mitsubishi hi-uni stylus is good, or you can use anything compatible with wacom one. And make sure you don't get the samsung laptops that overheat and shit themselves.
