there's a book called sacred geometry for artists, which goes into sacred geometry fun.

Also read a grammar of ornamentation, which has some really fun knowledge of ornamentation but only scratch some really basic ideas the sacred geometry book will go deep.

It would be a good idea to read the fourth books or architecture (read the 2013 epub edition) which teaches some of those ideas but applied to arhitecture.

Also, a nice understanding of plant taxonomy and plant anatomy (botany) would really help you have a schizo trip when you go to your park and start seeing that shit on plants.

Mostly new age shit. No doubt some ideas were present in ancient times, but if compiled and explained by authors of much later generation, it takes on different framing and character. Been there done that. Even compilations by 19th century is affected by the spirit of their own time.
Do a craft other than fine art where you would actually employ the design elements and you will see how much intuition predominates in most samples. Even in painting the panel dimension having specific proportion has more to do with the proportion being easy to replicate thus making transfer easy.

I am even more schizo than op but don't go on rants spanning multiple threads.
As much as I disslike Loomis and other illustrators, I would not say they do nlt know how to compose. The compose in accordance to the ends of their works, as lame as these ends may be. If they composed in the same way as Leonardo or Perugino, it would not make sense for their subjects or overall style.
