>only the saved PNG is there

and exactly for this reason GIMP doesnt allow you to save in any format but its native one. If you want any other format you have to use

But dont worry GIMP doesnt have and never will have autosave so you can lose hours of progress too. And devs refuse to put autosave in because

IIRC you can adjust the frequency but it's rarely that disrupting unless you are on a long drawing session

Fuck CSP, I set autosave to every 5 minutes and once when I close a ref window it asked if I want to discard change I clicked yes, not knowing that I was closing the program instead of the window. IT FUCKING DIDN'T SAVE ANYTHING. WHAT THE FUCK IS AUTOSAVE FOR IF IT CAN'T PREVENT SHIT LIKE THAT

I don't know about Sai or CSP, but Photoshop's subscription model is kryptonite to me, so I'm avoiding it more for that than anything else. I don't pirate either, so I've settled with free art programs, they've been treating me well so I don't feel the need to swap.
