no /vent/, so i'll post my stupidity here.
i finally reached my day off during which i was looking forward with relief to working on all my art i'd had to set aside halfway through throughout the week for today,
and i was so into it i picked up my apple pencil the sec i woke up and carried it around with me doing all my usual morning prep, then found i'd lost it somewhere along the way.
spent anout an hour looking for it, mentally exhausted and sure it fell down a vent or something i spent money on a bluetooth finder, and have been going back and forth in small circles for the past nine hours with a glitching radar that jumps around wildly from one end of my house to the other. still haven't found it, exhausted and going to collapse. the day off's now over and i feel like killing myself.
the pencil is only discoverable while it still has a charge, and the charge'll be dead in a minute now. my ipad died a while ago and i'm trying to charge it so i can circle some more. i want to kill myself.

i just turned out all the lights and took off my coat to finally give up and crawl into bed after searching since i last posted, and felt something in my coat. i found it. it had fallen into a tiny open seam inside the fabric of my coat, the radar was going mad because my coat was probably flapping along as i carried it with me on my circles. i pretty much never gave up, sat down, or put down the ipad pencil finder to stick my hands in my pockets since morning so i never knew. it was always with me
i found it
i actually found it

Wow, that's pretty insane. At least you found it, but man that must have been stressful. I've torn up my place a few times looking for things, and they've turned up in ridiculous places. Sometimes they're in an obvious place and I can't believe I didn't find it sooner. Sometimes they're in a retarded place, and I'm like how on earth did it get there? The worst was one time when my place was really messing, and I was drunk, and I got so mad because I couldn't find something that I started smashing things and throwing things. I put a few holes in my wall that I later had to patch with one of those mixer kits. I accidentally broke something that was a birthday present, and that made me furious and sad at the same time. I've since quit drinking and moved, and haven't had that problem again. But yeah, shit can be crazy.

Oh yeah, and one time I got so drunk I left my backpack in a cab. It had tons of pins on it that I'd spent years collecting. I used to get compliments all the time by random strangers because it was a really sick backpack with a ton of really cool pins. I lost the ambition to put pins on my backpacks after that. I woke up and it looked like a hurricane had hit my apartment, and I couldn't remember anything. Then when I remembered I got really furious again. But I had smashed a whole bunch of things, there was garbage everywhere. I broke a chair. It was really bad. I guess that doesn't have anything to do with art or this thread, but I guess I'm just trying to relate. Glad you found your pen though.

The horizon line in CSP is the blue one seen in the 3rd image. The tool always puts that between the 2 vanishing points anyway.
I can manage to get the horizon(blue line) on the image but it always messes up something as well.

the horizon is where the sky meets the ground. that's both in layman's terms and in like 99% of scenes. and i guarantee a lot with shipping containers is in that 99%.

all parallel lines share the same vanishing point.
if you think of the ground as just a giant web of lines, all of those lines are going to vanish on a single horizon line. and anything with a flat surface that's parallel to the ground like a table, or a shipping container, is going to have it's vanishing points on that same horizon line.

you put yours up in the clouds, which is obviously wrong.

Yes, consume media that triggers more ideas, play videogames, read some fantasy book, comics, manga, look at art of great artists from this or pasts eras, download images/screencap scenes and make a folder for them, if you're not a sperg go outside and take photos from some cool places.
A good start is to have a theme in mind, like, what makes a scene scary, go watch some movies that help you get there, for example you may find an old movie that has a shit plot but there is one scene in it that really speaks to you, screencap it and save it for future inspo, that sort of thing, you can do it with videogames and for all of this you can take the palette and study the sceneary and whatnot. You can do it with anything you come up with really.

nah, you have to think about more than a small slice of raw theory in a vaccuum. a printer and a painter have different constraints and prioritize different things.
paint has to deal with mixing and the physical properties of pigments. so if you can already hit a target color with the normal primaries, which 99% of the time you can, then starting from further away with cym is, At Best, more work for the same result.
and on the flipside, painters aren't working with a tight manufacturing design budget and don't need to hit the max number of colors with the smallest static set of inks. if you use 5 different paints or 10 or 15, it doesn't actually up the material cost of a painting, pulling out some high saturation purple when you need it is no big deal.

Is being obsessed with drawing everything correctly a sign of my so called style or a sign of me being amateur? I want to draw simple-ish cute characters but i end up spending days and days working it so i can get the folds on the clothes correctly, every detail like specific stitches on clothes, detailed hair, nails, and then render the fuck out of it. Thing is, i don't particularly do it on purpose, i just can't stand "skipping" over stuff. Drawing shoes take me forever because i need to draw the goddamn laces correctly. My finished drawing look okay and i don't hate them but i wish i could finish more stuff quicker instead of spending over a week on each thing. you're speaking about it in color values which is fine as an artist (i personally can't say much on the color front there)
i'm pretty sure that irl the light would take on a blue tone and the intensity would increase. if you're representing your white light as (255, 255, 255), that value would probably decrease, but the blue would still stay at 255 i think. This may or may not change the intensity greatly, your screen definitely wouldn't be as bright but i'm not sure what the actual representation has to say about it. also, you would probably end up rendering this as coloring a semi-transparent blue on top of the white (maybe, i'm just not sure why you would need to predetermine the color before painting it when all you have is a color wheel instead of paint)
but the point is that irl it would be a more intense light that has taken on a blue hue

if you're starting at #ffffff then you've needlessly backed yourself into a corner and have nowhere to go for highlights let alone an extra lighting effect. white objects irl are a surprisingly dark value, especially indoors, and they will of course not go down in value by adding extra blue onto their gray.

Depends on accuracy vs appeal (generally called "style"). If you have the underlying structure down, you can take it wherever you want, it can be very polished or close to realism (to the point where you reach human printer levels) or just add your own spice, this can either show in your brushwork, your palette or how simplified or graphic your work is.
Taste is a factor too, some things don't mix well together, think about "mario if he real" or hyper realistic Homer Simpson, if you can identify what doesn't work, you have a sense for what taste isn't, knowing what works and coming up with it yourself is the task, but that's what reference is for, having favorite artists is useful helps a lot too, now at least you have a landmark for your art journey.
>>6136921
You can definitely break it, it's even encouraged to do it just to test the limits of a palette, your pic is only for reference, it tends to work well, but if you want try it yourself, use a complimentary palette, but for one of the colors, shift the hue to one side (ex: Purple and Yellow, instead of yellow, try a bit of orange) and see how it looks. You can do this with any palette and change hues in a more abrupt way if you want, as long as your values work, experimenting with hues is fair game.

how do you make studying from artbooks fun? I can spend hours polishing a turd but when I try to sit down and seriously learn something from a book I put noticeably less effort into even something as simple as trying to copy. When I notice I did it poorly I keep trying to do it over again, and I spend 40 minutes on one illustration that I didn't gain any knowledge from, get demotivated, take a day off, and go back to drawing things I like after that.
I've been roughly repeating this process for about two months now, and I really would like to make progress with a book. I heard trying to incorporate what the book is teaching while drawing what you like is a good method, but I'm struggling to find the best way to do it.
Many books also confuse me because they'll show a finished illustration but not the process to get there, and I'm bad at taking info from it. Even when I go in with a plan in mind for studying I just seem to flounder.

ADHD? Maybe it's just you're accustomed to doodling: drawing without determining a specific outcome. Like you start by thinking about drawing a character, but you don't give any thought to anything else in the picture or to what the character is doing. So you begin by trying different things out, different poses, different angles, etc. Since you have no end point to reach, you have no sense of progress. Eventually you lose interest in the drawing. Doodling can sometimes yield interesting ideas, but if you want to draw a picture, have a specific goal in mind. Go back through some of your doodles and see if there's anything worth expanding upon.

Pov- point of view, you set it first- it will be exactly ehat we will see, imagine it being a framed glass screen, so if the screen itself is distorted, not perfect and flat, then we will seefistorter post processed image.

The correct one is just "perspective drawing" with an endless number of vanishing points.
1-point and 2-point perspective are shortcuts to make your life easier by setting up a scene so that you only need to worry about a couple of them. If you're looking down a hallway, all the doors, windows, walls, signs share one vanishing point, and if you take care of that one point then everything else can be fudged(verticals and horizontals straight up and down). Same with 2 point and things like a street corner or a room.

Not against the rules but goes against the board culture. /ic/ is a slow board so new threads shouldn't be created without a good reason. If everybody created a thread for crits, all the generals would get bumped off. The people who create their own threads are new or egotistical/obnoxious enough to go against the board culture. They usually can't take criticism very well either. Most threads are low effort so only low effort critiques are offered. They hardly ever say what they were going for or anything else that might be relevant.

Does tracing someone else's inking in order to study it really help?
I've seen people here do it before and it doesn't seem like it'd be as mindless and ineffective a study method as it sounds as long as you paid attention to the strokes being used and made a good effort to match and understand the decision-making behind them. It lets you focus on just the lines without worrying about getting the rest of the drawing accurate, too.
But I have a weird illogical aversion to tracing even when it's a legitimate application, so I can't help feeling like maybe eyeballing a copy instead might be better.
