Most of them are pretty bad. I've sifted through a lot of the ones they upload on CGP and all I have to say is there is a reason why your favorite artists don't upload tutorials. Teaching is a skill. A lot of the tutorials are sometimes just speedpaints with commentary like you find on yt.

I have some of them, i also watch a bunch of them. It kinda depends on which subject he’s covering, but i think you should not follow his videos as a beginner. You’ll learn more from him if you know basic fundamentals and all that.
Personally i love his Priminitive Dynamic Sketching the most (his recommended first go-to if you haven’t checked it out yet) literally covers basic form-drawing and multiple ways of manipulate forms.
Imo His vids generally are good as “a intro” “in the nutshell” to a specific subject matter, but if you want to dive deep into it, like anatomy for example, you’d better look for other sources.

They're not great. The artists with courses on there are basically just selected by a popularity contest. If you have enough followers to get 300 people to sign up as interested in your course (you have to bring in your own followers to do this), they allow you to make a course on their platform, without any quality control just numbers. Mostly you'll find high-beg people who got lucky on social media but can't teach at all.

Sight-size is good, once or twice, but it's rather limited and impractical for "real" art.

As far as studying Bargue is concerned, if you want to self-check for accuracy, you can use Photoshop/Gimp filters to superpose the original/your drawing and see where you fall short.

For value accuracy, it's a bit harder.

Regarding accuracy, what most courses about Bargue teach you about is how to block-in with straight lines, how to use comparative measurements, how to use plumb lines/alignment checking methods, and how to render things step-by-step. Most courses are very similar in that regard;there's enough free content onYouTube to learn most of it.

>The Art and Science of Drawing -> Hardesty's Essentials of Realism -> The Art and Science of Figure Drawing -> Vilppu's Drawing Manual -> Art-WOD Beginer's course + Dynamic Sketching 1 and 2

What you or anyone else would propose if I DO NOT want to learn human drawing (that I would leave for other time), but I would learn animals mostly in full pose, "dead" objects like an apple or a leaf and so on, but all this in s digital painting technique, so only on drawing tablet. I am a beginner with totally zero skills.

Nothing is essential sice people can stylize drawing to the point of Adventure Time or Gumball. These recomendations were made based on the Anon's request of drawing "realistic" humans, birds, dogs and cats.

>>6132054
'Dead' objects are calld Still llife in art.

The suggestions deal with observational drawing. If you are leaning in that direction I would suggest both The Art and Science of Drawing and Hardesty's Essentials of Realism since they deal with your ability to identify what you are seeing and what of that you should put on the canvas. alternatively go for Drawing from Observation: An Introduction to Perceptual Drawing (internet archive) for a book on that topic.

The most straigh forward beginners approach to drawing animals would again be John Muir Laws books an livestreams on youtube.

For a further yet introductory approach you can go with Joe Weatherly books and video course or CGMA's Animal Drawing course or even Vilppu's Animal Drawing Manual and course on animal drawing.

For more advanced detailing you could go with Terryl Whitlatch or Aaron Blaise courses and Animal Anatomy books, like Ellenberger's book. But the thing is that almost any advanced instruction on animal anatomy costatly compares it to human anatomy since they presupose you have already seen it in some capacity.

PS: I've neer gone through it but Schoolism's new course Speed Sketching Animals looks good. They make live sessions on Bobby Chiu's youtube channel, so you can have a taste of it.

But I autistically enjoy owning shit. I left ps because of the pajeets calling me every month about my bill and constant cost changes.
The ideal solution is to just pirate and use whatever you want.
I think csps default brushes are the worst of any program but you can get quality stuff for free on their store. As for Ps you can torrent from just about anywhere, and krita had the best default brushes but least usable general ui. As far as performance goes I think ps in general has best brush engine for larger brushes etc.

>> No.6134046

>>6134012
Pay attention, The Art and Science of Drawing is the very first suggestion, it goes into the idea of drawing 3D forms already.

Dynamic Sketching can be done in very different levels. A complete beginner that messes everthing up and comes out with a lot of wobly drawings or as a more advanced person that uses it to really structure their drawings focussinf more on weel constructed drawings and linewight distribution as well as color and light representation in hatching. Just look up #dynamicsketching on instagram to see the range of abismal drawings versus pro drawings that you can find.

By the way, this was an answer to a specific question
>which of these should I pick as an utter beginner interested in drawing realistic humans, birds, dogs and cats?

So that's why I suggested that order. And by the way I've gone through all those courses, not just hoarding like you. So the suggetion was made based on facts, not on the amount ofstorage you've put asside on you computer to courses that you've never watched.

PS: Vilppu's Drawing Manual is pretty much focussed on 3D form drawing aplied to the figure. Something that the person who asked said is interestd in. Opposed to the dinossur skeletons, arcrafts, cars, or insects normally drawn in Dynamic Sketching that were never talked about in the original question.

Easiest to make some one give upo on drawing:
-Hey I want to draw cute lolly anime girls! Help me out?!
-You have to watch Erick Olsen's 111 hour perspective course and do the 100s of evercises before you are allowed to draw an anime head.

How would a perspective course be digital focused? If you mean when they use vanishing points far off the page you can just use sheets of printer paper or a sticky note to plot those and then make marks on the edge of your paper or just grid the paper completely.

Lots of retarded forced memes and drama came out of it but the main issue is:
Mega's draw a lot of attention and traffic, it doubled /ic/s traffic. It's easy to report it and get the data deleted and eventually the account banned for reupload.
Every time the account gets banned its another 20 dollars to make a new account that will inevitably get reported and banned again.

So you have to spend $20 and time reuploading 3TB+ weekly just to keep the mega up. Other boards have started using obfuscation to delay the reports but it still happens.

There is no right or wrong answer. They are different approaches. Starting light and building up allows for mistakes and encourages exploration. Constantly practicing with a fineliner to get the perfect line on first stroke encourages line confidence and fluidity, but requires a lot more practice/patience and discourages exploration/mistakes. Simple answer: Feel the form.

Long answer: Copy all his drawings on his book Drawing Manual. A chapter at a time, aonly draw after you have read the chapter.

Longer answer still: It might be difficult to understand Vilppu's approach to gesture, if that's your case - as it was mine - I'd suggest you go through The Art and Science of Figure Drawing before Villpu. It's not as good as Vilppu and it will not replace Vilppu but it's an awsome introduction to the concepts that Vilppu will develop. If The Art and Science of Figure Drawing is still too difficult for you go through The Art and Science of Drawing before that. This is the most basic level. If this is too difficult for you just keep on it and redo the exercises untill you understande them and move on.

IMO the best option is to go with a single book. Actually buy it, and study from it a lot. If you go with something like Huston's figure drawing, you can always bring it with you along a sketchbook and study at a cafe or anywhere. Even if you want to do digital, spending time doing trad definitely won't hurt; this will also avoid being distracted by your computer.

Huston's is just for the sake of giving a name; there are others equally good for figure drawing, and others for other areas of study.

Bargue's course is perhaps one of the best to teach you how to study from observation and fine-art stuff, but it may be a bit dry for most people.

This is also a good test for you to see if you really want to do and teach yourself art. If you can't set for yourself a regular schedule and hold it for a few months, try getting a teacher. Being self-taught is *not* for everyone.

The question then is, who are good teachers that can draw on Watts level?

Best ones I found are Steve Huston and Glenn Vilppu, they are amazing, though a lot of his drawings look kinda unfinished for the sake of teaching just the principles and never really go all the way polishing them like the watts drawings on the higher phases, also they use lots of materials that I can afford, I just want plain old graphite or charcoal pencil at most.
Iliya Mirochnik stuff looks pretty cool too, though most of the time he's drawing on canvas the size of his body, no one seems to draw on simple A4 paper.

I'd like to see a master telling you that you can learn this stuff with the cheapest shit around your home without using crazy materials to show off their mastery.

Brent Eviston is good for that, Hampton uses digital for his lessons and I haven't started on ctrl+paint to learn how to control the digital brushes like him on my screenless tablet though. I'm I missing any other amazing art masters to check out?

It depends anon: if you're starting out, optimizing as you do is almost always useless: you might understand a few more things, but actually putting things into a regular practice is much more valuable.

When you're actually experimented, and already have developed skills, yes, you can be more selective, because you'll know what to look for.

Besides, there are often a lots of subtle pieces of informations that are easy to overlook, either because the teacher doesn't emphasize them, or because you're not mature enough to understand how important they actually are.

I did use videos early on because I didn't really knew what I was doing anyway. Now I'm almost exclusively using books or artwork to copy, which is most of the time also printed. I still watch a few videos from time to time for content that I don't have available as books.

Videos do contain more information, they are far from useless;it's just that books are more convenient (I'm a trad btw), easier to navigate.

It also depends on which videos/topics, and your current skill level. In non-art related area, I've found perfect videos for my skill-level that really maximize my learning

Uhh nothing special really. I just write down the book/chapter/topic/instructor and then everything that I want to remember on a notebook/tablet. And my notes aren't pretty, I'm probably the only one who can understand them.
To me the point of taking notes is that you remember the content better and it forces you to pay attention better. I can't count the number of times I unknowingly zoom out of a book/tutorial, but since I'm supposed to be taking notes, I notice this and then I just rewind or reread.
Then when I'm about to attempt to apply what I'd just learned in my drawings, I read through my notes again as a refresher.
