You seem to have a good start there. The question becomes, "Where can I put weight on this without disrupting function" (esp. for glasses and the like) and "Where can I put an opening in this, and how far must it go to keep anything from getting inside it? (clothes with extra holes)

Then there are digitigrade / unguligrade shoes, which are their own mile of hassle.

I've heard the word 'furgonomics' bandied about regarding this, but it's worthless for googling.

Hehehe, indeed, you seem almost to treat the fursona thing as a necessary and sufficient condition to be a furry. I do realise that "furry" is a word used to indicate a lot of things and leads to confusion.

For istance, is used to indicate antropomorphic animals (even the ones with feathers and scales), but we do consider "furry" even characters with human-like intelligence (Balto, Simba, and so on). The term is applied for fans of the furry stuff, sooo, a person that likes furry is *drum roll* a furry. The fursona thing is completely optional.

For your question, to get known with the least sites, I'd go for Furaffinity and e621/926. Twitter has a good reach too, but that site is the culmination of the human tragedy, I am at the point that I don't trust users that have only Twitter

Let's see. What you want to do with art? Working as a professional in the industry? It will not be easy getting this skill as becoming a code monkey, but I'm sure you can do it.

If your end goal is to work only with furry commissions, forget this.
Keep in mind that you need to acquire enough money to sunstain yourself even after retirement. This is totally possible if you live in a place with a weak currency and/or a low cost of life (in these conditions you can get even more than a doctor, depends). Sure, if you live in the US and need to pay an ambulance, good luck with that!

Talking about the course, I think it is the easier path, but this might give a huge regret, a regret that you will feel forever.
As always, how good is this path, depends from the country. Where I live, a degree in computer engineering (the STEM meme of /ic/, yup) is useless and gives a life of exploitation and low satisfaction.

I said to you how I would think, maybe you can be more thoughtful.
This is an hard decision that will greatly affect your future. This decision is up to you, we can't.

>it just feels like a waste of time drawing this little per day
Not drawing at all for a long period would be negative for sure, but probably you would have more than 15 minutes. Don't give up, you don't need to, alright? Good luck!

i want to work as a concept artist especially for games, and maybe get some extra money off commissions, etsy, etc. I know it's essentially unsustainable to live off only commissions. I live in brazil, living off art here is pretty much impossible. I don't even like programming, it just gives a shit ton of money around here, and 16 yo me thought that's what brings happiness.
>but this might give a huge regret, a regret that you will feel forever
that's the part i'm the most afraid of, I used to be into art, then I stopped to play vidya, and I regret it a lot nowadays. Can't imagine what's this cranked up to eleven.

literally every single 1st worlder has it worse. 2-4 hours for a 60-80 dollar commission is completely achievable and 10 of those a month would probably let you live pretty ok in brazil.
Just need like 10k twitter followers or so until you can get a steady stream of comms.
If you go the programming route you can become a sol indie gamedev with art+that. Even a moderate success is probably gonna be a big payday for a brazilian.

are you dumb? i liv ein brazil ad make a comfortable living cuz 1 dollar = 5 reais, i earn more than my friends that studied law and software eng, but there are months where commissions are few and i got nno real stability so there is a trade off

also programmig isnt ista money here either, good paying jobs are only for those who are actually skilled, the market is saturated with mediocre programmers fighting for scraps, plus it depends a lot on where you live
these past few years its always "go study programming to get a good job" and what happens? millions begin to enter the area amking it super saturated, entry level jobs pay very little sometimes less than working at a supermarket cuz again, a lot of saturation means companies can afford to pay less
good paying CS jobs are only for skilled programmers with several years of experience and even then it isnt a guarantee, please do not delude yourself cuz of the internet CS echo chamber

you are so young and it shows, forget making money with art, just draw and paint to improve for the next 4-5 years
also get a degree, doesnt have to be CS cuz trust me, it can be as soul sucking as any other career, but just get a degree in something you dont hate as a safety net, when life turns to shit its easier to get back up having a diploma than having a furry portfolio

the "most successful artist" in your city is a local retard most likely, selling fingerpaintings to boomers. Not somebody using the global market to get paid by american and european furries who have the computer science degree but unlike you are getting paid 4000 usd a month and so can absolutely afford to pay 200 bucks for their weird fetish art.
The problem is that it's unreliable, you can't just become a furry porn artist by applying. You will need to build an audience on twitter which depends on your style, your marketing etc..
Then you need to get commissions which depends again on your audience, your relative pricings and many other things..
So in summary it's 100% realistic to make a living off of furry porn IF you are actually good at it AND you can get an audience which is a thing you have to incrementally build over years, maybe a decade if you start from absolute 0.

How much can I make drawing/painting furry art?
Furry stuff is not something I'm really averse to like most people but I'm not as passionate as some are, I lean only slightly into it because of the freedom I feel I would get creating my own fursona and drawing other people's.
Not gonna post my work but I can draw/paint like in the OP pic.

the average furry single character commission goes for between 50 and 100 dollars depending on various circumstances, but it can go higher and lower.
These commissions take about 2-4 hours I'd say but I've seen people do theirs in below an hour or over the span of 8 hours. All of this affects your "wage".
If you can do the OP pic in say 4 hours, it wouldn't be unreasonable to ask for 100 USD or more. Infact, you should always ask for the maximum amount of money you can get whilst still getting enough customers.
Which is my next point, in order to get customers you will need an audience e.g. thousands of twitter and or furaffinity followers.

its honestly a mystery, some people get 30000 within a year, many are stuck below a thousand. There's a component of who you know e.g. a high follower count artist with a similar subject matter might be your friend and retweet you periodically. Since content is about as important as skill and style, a good chunk of his followers will in time follow you too.
There's a component of just.. luck. And there's a component of marketing etc. Most people here are at about the 1k followers mark and that's usually not enough to make a living off of comms because there's simply not enough buyers.

I'd tell you the exact same about indiegame releases on steam, and that game will need art, too. And an art audience will reblog your game announcements etc. making it less likely for your game to flop outright. a game good enough to sell a few thousand copies takes years to make alone, and will ultimately include either high costs (to buy art, music, marketing etc.) or you getting good at art and such anyways. game mechanics intrinisically cannot be copyrighted, there are billions of good game ideas and only hundreds of people with the drive to execute them. The thought that your perfect idea is going to make you a millionaire and if anybody steals it you're ruined is surprisingly common but rather silly. Everybody has their one big idea and it's probably different from yours and if you told them you'll make game x but with game y they'd just look at you funny thinking how superiour their game a but with b is.
If you mean gameart itself then yes that is copyrightable. Nobody is realistically gonna do this, what might happen is some random who using your suggesstive furry art on his f list profile to erp with strangers. Which you may or may not be able to stop on a legal level but really it should just be irrelevant to you.

About Brazil, I thought that a 200$ commission would cover you for around 1/3 of a month, but aside from some portuguese, I don't know anything about Brazil.
Also, do you need to pay a % of your commissions as a tax? Assuming no and that you are a gmi, living in this way sounds possible, but...
The reliability. For instance, with a normal job, you don't have to worry if the living cost or if the currency has a change. Also, will you be able to acquire enough to survive after retirement?
I mean, don't forget to think about the long term.

The concept artist. It's a normal job after all, with an affinity with your passion. But you have to truly get better, otherwise this will be your ruin.

Programmer. Compared to getting skill in art, this is easier for sure.
Usually this sector is never saturated because programmers are always looked for, and the experience values way more than a degree. Keep in mind that I talk while ignoring how in Brazil works: a different country for a different reality.

Looks that you have already decided, though. Então, até a próxima, amigo!

I don't have any real special technique to study muscles, I study like I normally study anatomy in something I think I'm struggling. I study normally using reference, after that I try drawing from memory trying to internalize what I learned. It looks similar but since I'm not using any reference my brain distorts what I remember and I can give my own spin to it.

Kemono is a lot of fun to draw when you get used to it, I don't like a whole lot because for me is too much anime girl with a snout and I want to have more of a balance, but I do a whole fucking lot when drawing on flockmod and alikes. I can sometimes, sometimes I can not, depends on what I'm doing it.

Yeah, it's on purpose, kinda. The big wolf has normal digitigrades but you can't see it because the angle, making certain poses and angles with this sort of thing can look weird so I don't do it a lot. I found this guy who does this half-assed ones and I like how it looks for more cartoony and cute stuff. Is half-assed but from someone who never does the stuff I think is great.

also what kind of art does he do? we are talking about internet commissions which are easier to gain money than a "normal" industry job, easier yet if dont mind being a degen and do lewds but you dont need it

and like i said, do a degree AND art, literally o reason to only choose one, plus you have to think about if you like doing art enough for it to be a job or you only like the IDEA of doing art as a job, cuz the moment you start talking money and putting in job-tier hours most people realize they would rather keep art as a hobby

one last thing i forgot, if the question is getting a job as a concept artist or any other kind of art and design position at a game company, they i will take back my words and agree with that guy who told you to not do it it aint worth it

but if we are talking being a freelance artist doing commissions and contract work especially for international clients, then ofc you can make a good living you just have to be very very good and know how to market yourself for the kind of work you want
freelance work for games is very different than twitter/furry commissions etc so just pick one path and work on it for the next 4-5 years while you finish a degree, then you have both art skills that are enough for pro work freelance or social media comms and a normal job to keep a roof over your head if you need it

>> No.6101831

>but if we are talking being a freelance artist doing commissions and contract work especially for international clients
pretty much this. I confident that I'd have art as a job ok or better, the thing I dislike the most about doing art all day is the physical downside of it (back, wrist, vision, etc). This is still very superficial, and I need to do more testing to see how i react to it when I catch up with the school stuff (draw from waking up to going to sleep).
>start talking money and putting in job-tier hours
I mean, assuming i'm going to be working under a contract, I thought they'd just do for wfh programmers, track the time they spend working, and i'm aware that the income is inconsistent and if I fuck shit up i'm gonna end up starving.
>literally o reason to only choose one
I kinda know it? But when I bring this point up during a conversation ppl just say something like "you are either the absolute cream of the crop or you're starving, so, choosing 2 and not focusing on 1 to master is a waste of time". Literally everyone, so I kinda just adhered to it.

Uhh, how to learn what exactly? Figure drawing, perspective, composition, colour theory or rendering? I'd love to help you out, but I can't exactly spend few hours describing everything - I'm afraid you'll have to be a bit more specific.
Unless you're looking for just general advice on purpose: in that case I highly recommend sticky. Some people swear by "just drawing", but I personally was improving the most when I was going through various workshops/courses.

In general, is like what I learn about the topic gets discarded by my head. Even something as simple as deciding the flat colours gives me trouble. The next steps make me feel really overwhelmed... I don't know how to continue, I feel like I'm wandering into an infinite desert of colors.

Being easily demoralizable doesn't help, because at some point the strange feeling in my throat and chest goes in my arms which become... lighter? So, when I decide to give up the attempt, I just test random things and give another try when I want to.

Ah, gotcha. What really helped me level up my game were 2 things:
1. Course "Advanced lighting with Sam Nielson", which is simply excellent and gives you exact exersises to do with very reasonable explanations. Don't worry about "advanced" in the title - it used to be called "basics of light" when I learned it, but name changed because of marketing.
2. Making a checklist. Painting can be really overwhelming and having one can gives you a lot of clarity, it helps with pushing through that ugly stage of painting.
My checklist used to look a bit like this:
1. make a sketch,
2. make lineart,
3. Turn lineart into occlusion shadows (mark brunet has a youtube vid on occlusion shadows if you want a quick explanation),
4. Block in local colours as they'd look in the shadow (darker and for example bluer than "normal"),
5. decide on the terminator and block in roughly main light (colour dodge brush can quickly give you a nice hue shift; use clipping masks),
6. Smudge the edge of the terminator where volumes are curving naturally; leave them sharp where they're resulting from cast shadows. Paint in halftones while you're at it.
7. add subsurface scattering (make terminator more vibrant and saturated, if light is shining through something [like an ear] it will be a bit lighter and more saturated),
8. add reflected light,
9. add highlights,
10. add textures,
11. play around with photoshop filters, curves, levels and colour balance.
Hope that helps, good luck!

>What does consist this exactly? Adding details outside contour/forms like fur? Use an appropriate texture with a brush on the midtones near the terminator?
I meant something like this, left image is before, right is after. Since I haven't spend that much time studying fur, I just use a smudge brush to smear colours a bit and give a vague impression of it. It's not very realistic or that good looking to be honest, but it's fast and easy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I'd do the same thing when painting waves on water.
On things like wooden boards or rocks I'd overlay a phototexture - it's easy to find free ones on the internet. I could do those by hand, but it's just way too time consuming.
Grass and foliage textures are the hardest to pull off IMO; for them I use both phototextures and texture brushes from Krita.

This is my opinion, but I'm also parroting Richard Friend here in a way, a large chunk of having good line art is just the drawing. That's why you can see all different kinds of line art styles, from G-pen/manga, dot brush, mostly flat, soft pencil brush, etc. and they can all look good depending on the artist.

very quick attempt at a general redline, I tried to keep as close to the original as possible really.

Boobs go lower than that. The hand holding the knife if at all present is way too small. Nevermind the fact that the pose itself is awkward(I rotated the hand towards the viewer here).
You should consider the ribcage and the stomach two different objects not one continuous line, with a clear break between them. Consider the principle that if there is any sort of bend to the figure then one side will have to squash and the other will need to stretch.
The eyes should be clipped off by the snout but that might just be a stylistic choice. Her pupils however are unfocused and it gives her a derpy sort of look.
The hips and legs are basically nonexistent so I can't really say what was supposed to be going on here.

Thank you. Here’s my Twitter: @schizoed_

I didn’t use any references but I applied the automatic drawing technique for the details. It has been life changing ever since I’ve learned this.
I simply add some details by drawing random shapes and lines inside of a shape (in the case of folds) or when doing the lineart (in the case of the helmet).
This video showcases it better than I can explain: https://youtu.be/MJYGFwGhHnA

It takes a bit of time to lean how to let your hand and your mind go. To be honest what I do is still not perfect as I need to vary the shapes and learn to have a better balance with details and white space but it’s very fun to experiment with it.

I hope the explanation is understandable.

What do you guys think about painting over A.I generated images? Pic related is an example of an artist who painted over a furry AI image. And I have to say, it looks pretty decent.

Do you guys think this could be a method a lot of us should take advantage of when Dalle-2 get's publicly released, or is it souless, and it takes away from the point of art?

using it as a base for concepts or getting a cool color scheme, sure

but the way your pic shows then might aswell not even paint anything, that isnt an overpaint its just mild retouching and you become a slave to what the AI can produce, same way as people who can only copy a reference without being able to modify it but even worse

actually been thinking if i can feed it my own sketches so it generates a bunch of iterations to speed up the sketching/idea part

I'm in no way against using AIs for art, after all it's just a tool much like any other tool
However, it depends on the extent of how much input is provided from the man and from the machine.

The example pic you posted I would classify as too far. The human barely did any work here (including the prompt). It's more like a slight retouch, than a paint over. This artist's also not going to have much style and personality, if AI (afaik) composes some kinda median average of the 1 million furry images it has processed.

It will be soulless and cheap, much like mass-produced mobile shit games or something. It looks decent, it's not made by amateurs - but it is not a product of an artist with a soul and personality, it's not made with love.

The Problem:
I want to use a great variety of animals for my anthro characters - that is, sapient ones.
But, the predatory ones need something to eat, and because this is medieval fantasy times, they could use a mount.
I'm finding it hard to decide whether a particular real-life animal that I want to include, should be relegated to a sapient anthro species, or a non-sapient animal.

Wouldn't it be weird to see, say, an anthro hyena riding a non-anthro okapi?

The solution I usually would go with this anthro and feral + sapient and non-sapient problem that you're currently having right now is to go with what I call the Pokemon and Equestrian rule.
a. Anthro and Non-anthro exist together
b. Both are sapient
c. But kind can communicate with each other
d. Non-anthro does not equate to their IRL counterpart ala-Pokemon.
e. Certain non-anthro can stand up and use their paws for limited tool usage or 'sticky hooves' with hooved and cloven non-anthro
f. Common meat is fish, shellfish and chicken only - that or clearly fantasy monster species like Hydras and Wurms
g. Riding is WITH consent but there are ways of course to 'tame' both anthro and feral.

>feral
feral = non-anthro and vice versa. Furry tags/naming and all that can confusing at times and I learned how things can get confusing whenever I browse e621. Do remember that feral does not meant non-sapient, considering that feral = non-anthro in this context.

>Non-anthro does not equate to their IRL counterpart ala-Pokemon.
By that, I meant that furry non-anthro should not be a one is to one copy/look-alike with their real life counterpart. You can see a lot of non-anthro furry characters do have human eyes or minute differences to their real life inspiration/counterparts. A non-anthro horse can wear the biggest shit-eating grin same as a T-rex.

>Certain non-anthro can stand up and use their paws for limited tool usage
Just basically saying that make non-anthros not limited in their range of actions and motion(within reason that is). Like they can turn dials and door knobs either using their mouth or paws but are unable to open cans even with a can opener etc etc.

I can't for the life of me figure out where the mouth is supposed to be. The head and pelvis are facing a similar direction while the stomach and chest seem to twist in another. Despite looking alright its an uncomfortable and unnatural looking pose. The armpit hair on his right arm isn't actually sitting in the pit but looks as though its growing from his right pectoral. Forshortening on most things also need work. There's a bunch more but those are what I noticed. What I want to know is, are you using a reference for the pose? Can I see it? And what this boar character looks like from other angles so I can figure out what's going on with his mouth.

i actually redoing the lineart because some of the hair and other features look unnatural and distracting. proportions of arms and hands also a bit wonky so i tried to fix it too. as for the mouth this is my first time drawing boars so i just contour it from various doujins.

Actually it's not the default, I took out stabilization completely. I wanted to share them but accidentally hit the "reset tool settings" on the sketch brush so had to set them up properly again, and here is my meme alternate brush and brushpack for doodles in CSP (which is just really the defaults with 0 stabilization) but there is one extra brush for my thin lines in the first link

https://files.catbox.moe/tps4te.sut
https://files.catbox.moe/9ovkjl.sut
https://files.catbox.moe/8fsxx2.sut

And here is a real time doodle in case you want to study the process
https://files.catbox.moe/rc7i5h.mp4

If you are having trouble with your lines at first I recommend using Lazy Nezumi Pro with the preset settings of "smoothing - speed pressure" and then start to phase out of it and start drawing more naturally since stabilizers tend to make stuff look more digital albeit smoother, but I highly suggest you start without it and getting yourself used to what inputs make your tablet show what in the screen

We're all going to make it anon

Some of the most important resources to me are:
>Brent Eviston - The Art and Science of Drawing
Teaches you stuff, addressing them one by one.
>Scott Eaton - Anatomy for Artists
He doesn't teach you how to draw forms, but lets you have an adequate knowledge about muscles. The memorization process it's easier if you learn the names.
>Brent Eviston - The Art and Science of FIGURE Drawing
Same as above, addresses things one by one and after every step puts altogether. He doesn't trivialize gesture which, a lot of times, is explained as "oh it's easy, just put a line that respresents the flow and you're done".
>Michael Hampton - Analytical Figure Drawing 1&2
Teaches you how to draw forms in a simple way, without trivializing it. You can get his book too.

Art tends to be hard because requires you to get a lot of different skills, and most of the time you don't know in which order.
Keep in mind that these are just some of the useful resources. Probably people here are already loading their shotguns and going after me only for not mentioning Bridgman, Loomis, Proko, Vilppu...

I see it now. To my own detriment, I neither construct or use perspective lines, instead just eyeballing everything and adjusting as I go. It's a mountain of bad habits.

>I cant make the yellow lights look like shit

Try using an actual photo of something white in a photo like that for reference. Steal the color palette. Don't straight up use the color picker, try and guess the colors yourself as you go, then use the color picker to see how far off you were. Every day you keep improving by leagues. I'm really glad to see you keep going despite how hopeless it all seems. Its a very good thing to have.

Yeah. I am below the age of 20. So things will get better?
The snow in the image is yellow, but when I made the fur around the same color of yellow, it didn't quite look right.
I've now put a yellow tint over the whole figure and it does blend it into the bg better. But of course I'd need to do it manually and actually shade the thing for it to look good.

Indeed, right now looks like Eloisa is going to post a photo with a filter for Instagram.
Given the photo, we understand that the lights are both behind and in front of her, making the shading more tricky, but you can just pretend that in front of her there are no lights

Thanks for your response.
I'm doing 250 boxes for drawabox ATM but I'm really keen to get into gesture drawing as I know all the bones and muscles (I do remedial massage).
My issue is being able to draw the 60second gesture drawings.

I've just been copying from Michael Hamptons Figure drawing book. I read through to page 27 and it made quite a bit of sense but I still can't create a 60 second sketch, even if I sit on it for 5minutes.
Do I need to know my fundamentals more to achieve this? Or am I missing something

Out of curiosity, have you used something like a gradient map or tonal curves, or you just painted with these colors?

>>6117468
When I said that gesture is trivialized I meant that many times, on the internet, you just see people saying to just put a mark to represent the flow and it's ok because "there is not a right way to do it" and "you can do it in 30 seconds".
Why, a beginner, that does not know how to draw, should be able to put a mark... fast, precise, with the right angle and proportionally correct? In 1 minute total?
That's why I mentioned "Brent Eviston - The Art and Science of FIGURE Drawing". He doesn't trivialize gesture.

On the internet there is hyperinformation, and when you are doing things on your own you can't see always what is wrong or right. Even on /ic/, which became my main source of informations when I randomly found the site Fireden, you can see a lot of times wrong or contrasting informations.

Changing subject, this too helped me a lot at the time: https://www.learning-to-see.co.uk/the-truth-about-looking
