paintings are non-fungible assets by defintion and are used as stores of value to evade taxes and launder money, their monetary value is entirely arbitrary by design in 99.9% of cases
there is a very real reason why most artists' paintings only go up in value after they're dead, and that's because they can't "print more" once they die
this has been the state of the art world for 300 years and counting, if not since forever, why do you think absolutely no one will ever give a single shit about your average twitter artist that can run circles around michelangelo or van gogh?

you gotta understand that price tag doesn’t mean the painting is worth that much or that anyone will pay for it, it’s just the price the gallery slapped on it so they can pretend they’re a super legit gallery so that when some retard comes along and sees all the garbage costing thousands of great pakistani pints he thinks “yep this is classy art innit, I can tell cause I’m classy”, he gives them the money so he can have a conversation piece that will let him pretend he’s a super legit middle class bloke (euro middle class, not the coolaid that burgers are supplied with so that they don’t identify with the working class because muh commies)
