Why You Should Copy Anime:
https://i.imgur.com/zNDsyF0.jpg (embed)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbKqIJcIUCw

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

the big gain from gesture related activities isn't in making DYNAMIC figures and improving your top end or whatever else it gets sold as. it's the stability you get from having an organized approach plus a bunch of practice knocking out the initial stages of a drawing.

some of the most cursed /beg/ behavior is to marry wonky drawings and be too afraid to make big changes because it's painful to rework even part of it from scratch, and there's no guarantee the next time will be better. things that help you catch the wonkiness earlier and make the fixing faster are good.

just... make them skinnier?

i'm not entirely certain as to what 'ratio' you're talking about, nor where you're right now / where your intended goal of 'skinny enough' is.

mind posting an example of where you're at right now and where you want to go? a bit hard to give any advice without knowing any of that since it could be anatomy, it could be stylization, etc.

>>6074158
well, i'm fairly certain most of them are, so it doesn't quite do to mock people in bad faith.

a big problem most people will face aside from unlearning bad habits, undoing preconceptions, etc is developing the taste and awareness necessary in order to draw something that is perceptibly 'anime'.

given that you seem to have the right idea (being able to distinguish anime from westoid art), why not join in and give people feedback as to why exactly it looks that way? it'd be a great help to most people here i'd say.

why would you make features smaller on an anime drawing indeed? surely it's not because anime encompasses a broad range of stylizations that aren't quite as easily placed in a box of 'facial features should be big for it to be anime'.

now, i have no idea what you're referring to with The Chin, considering it doesn't exactly look like Gakuen Handsome. i'm guessing it's some manner of /ic/ meme so you'll have to educate me on that.

now, with regards to your adjustment specifically, see the following.

>>6074335
are you entirely sure? try tracing over the examples of smaller eyes/facial features i tossed out and compare those to what you were drawing.

none of the 'make things smaller' edits stray anywhere close to 'realistic' in any case. the two on the far right are more 'don't go too far; this is the most you can likely go while keeping it acceptable, depending on stylization and other matters that would result in something way too long to explain in a single image'.

as per the stylization that you went for for the rest of the facial features (ears and general shape of the head), making the features smaller would be the easiest way to make things fit.

otherwise, you're going to need to spend a bit more time adjusting the relative proportions of things in order to get a suitably appealing feel.

good to hear. i myself ran into that problem before and the solution is quite literally 'skinnier people are in fact skinnier'.

ps go look at some skinny models or skinny girls in porn, it's an eye opener.

also, for weird or extreme perspective, try using a bit of 3d for that; it's fairly easy to simply set up a couple of cubes/boxes in the right proportion in say blender and set up the cameras.

it'll help you figure out what proportions work (since you can edit said cubes fairly easily), what actually is going on with your perspective, as well as when you need to break rules to get what you want.

honestly, the general idea i'm getting is that you probably are extremely particular about placing features (and their proportions) even though you're not entirely certain why you're doing so.

again, have a look at the examples i posted above - do you have any complaint about the proportions and placements being used there? if yes, why? if no, also why? contrast that with what you're drawing as well as your current sensibilities with regards to what is 'correct' to your eyes. if there's a disconnect, figure out what is going on.

You need both observational skills to know what looks good and the ability to control line weight through experience. The latter can be somewhat mitigated by erasing lines to get them look right, but you still need to know what to modify.

nepbro there are many things wrong with your copy, at the end of the day you can just do whatever, but I'll assume that you are trying to make a faithful copy of that neptunia picture

this could be what a practice session could look, at the start they will look like shit, but keep trying, doing corrections and comparing your drawing to the original, take notes of important things, if you are having special difficulty with any specific part, do isolated practice for that part, idk, do just eyes a whole week or something, after doing a few dozens of these you'll start to get a hang of what makes tsunako drawings look good and use it on your own drawings

construction/sketch I would say is separate from lineart, the first is to get a good base, that looks good and accomplishes what you want to express, lineart is just being delicate and putting a lot of attention to detail
it doesnt have to look 100% the same, but to look similar, and be attractive to you still, pic related
