No problem, but use them wisely. Noise is mostly okay in small amounts as a cheap way to give the picture a little more "texture," but chromatic aberration is used by most artists in a most fucking tasteless and inappropriate way, and more often than not this effect just draws unnecessary attention to itself and hurts your eyes.

I think you need to identify what is your learning outcome then brainstorm ideas
just as the other anon mentioned look at other children books
similar to what you want to write about if you have an idea
pay attention to the number of words in every page and the number of the pages and illustrations
try to copy that when creating your own book

you are clearly copying a photo and not really straying from the reference.
you're confused about making a new unreferenced addition (blood red?) because you have gaps of missing knowledge in your mental library. my advice is to not worry about such things at this stage and throw whatever you want on there. if you really want to know you would probably use more muted hues closer to burnt umber as opposed to candy apple red, but then that's just common sense in this tone of work, right?

Right, I wanted to see if I myself can add a new color into an already established composition and have it still work because I struggle with colors the most, a lot of them just kinda look the same to me unless side by side. I feel like I have trouble on the fly choosing the right one for the situation. Using a darker de-saturated red is common sense here as you said, I was more wondering if introducing any sort of red would draw the eye too much cause it's not present anywhere else. I'd love any book recommendations for color in composition specifically too if anyone has any.
