IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

Sticky document:

Question here
I have a 5.6mm pencil holder and 5.6mm graphite and charchoal sticks of various softness. If I want a sharp tip, a lot of sharpening is needed which results in a lot of graphite/charcoal dust. Can this dust be stored and used in drawing just like the graphite dust you can buy in art stores? Or does the art store dust have some special properties that the sharpening dust is lacking?

>> No.5245925

>>5245908
Both. You should go until you think it's right. Finish it. Assess where you want wrong then critique yourself and redo. You'll begin a feedback loop this way.

I keep everything and return to it about a week later and make some notes on what needs work next.

People don't draw things perfect first try, you'll always need to erase things. There's no point starting over every time if you're confident in head construction but shit at drawing noses. You'd be better off studying noses then doing another full portrait. Rinse and repeat.

I get that you're beg but you must know how self feedback works from day to day life? If it takes you twice the time to use one road you don't then use that road again. Drawing is like that, but instead of time it is something else - for most begs like us it's just accuracy.

The fundamental physics of Art:

I) Boxman's law:

Any shortcut taken (in place of taking the effort of learning the actual knowledge) in order to save time, will ultimately yield profit, at the expense of soul.

II) The law of Non-artists:

Non-artists will ALWAYS find well technically executed art in little time to be profound, amazing, magical or some kind of wizardry. (Note: Non-artists are apt to to throw around the word "talented" more often than is necessary)

III) The law of /ic/

Consider /ic/ to be a strange hub/bazaar/group that is part university, part ghetto, part insane asylum and part supermarket. /ic/ will ALWAYS find soulful art, (not for profit) to be good and will praise and encourage anyone who is committed to making soulful art. Any art /artist who is posted who is clearly for profit, will be torn to pieces. Do not expect anything else.

IV) The law of Schizos

Schizo art is a strange, almost TOO soulful art, at the cost of the person's ability to function (probably) and their ability to respond well to criticism and proper discourse. Reply to their posts at your own risk.

You aren't doing as horribly as you think. The only thing you can do is keep practicing perspective and gradually understand it at a subconscious level. Keep going with FwaP and move on to Heads and Hands, also by Loomis, if you want more practice in and to get more understanding as a whole. It'll have fewer blook balls and more adult-themed headmaking (same basic principle), and like somebody else said, the text in Heads and Hands is extremely important.

Read this. The Loomis books go into some more detail on this stuff as well.

Of course talent exists. Fucking Mozart proves that. The point all those fags are making when they say that talent doesn't exist is that it isn't required to be a good artist. Drawing the same shit over and over again until you get it right is not how you improve. The only thing that teaches you is to not pay attention to your subject and just wing everything.

Instead improve by taking your time and doing repeated observations and comparisons with your subject. If you spot a mistake, you erase and fix it. Work in stages, starting from simple foundational shapes & planes and moving up to more detail as you go along. That way you won't have a situation where a fuck up would require you to erase a large part of your work or to start again.

Fish eyes require 5 points, not 2. Basically, every line that's not going away from you turns into a circle defined by 2 of the points on the main one and one of the radius depending on the angle between the object and the viewer.

I like drawing these two.
I'm just gonna try to do it better (and NOT when I have tiny bouts of insomnia at 1 am XP).

please kill yourself and never give advice again

I am looking for purpose in life after having lost my ability to work. I know this probably gets asked a lot, but after reading the sticky i'm just overwhelmed by what there is all to learn and do. I have a tablet and a program to work with but trying to teach it myself seems harder than having it taught. Any advice? Working through a book I can't tell if I am actually progressing or not. And not like I have anyone to ask like a teacher.

I recommend draw a box, it has a good structure and it is easy to self critique. I guess you could pay to get critiques too, but I don't think it is very useful at the beg stage.

the face is asymmetrical, either exaggerate it more or make it more symmetrical. you want it to look deliberated. I can't tell where the light is because both sides of the nose are equally in shadow.
