Yeah in the last thread I mentioned how I fucked up hard on the perspective because I've been timeboxing my drawings, and every day I am forced to basically stare at how hard I fucked it up. It's good though because I really get a good hard look at what I have to work on. Next thing I'm going to do is just practice drawing ellipses and circles, because right now the shading is covering up just how fucking awful they all are.

Originally I thought the tower was going to be so far in the distance I didn't need 3-point perspective, but it ended up way bigger than I intended and the 2 vanishing points I had were way too close together. It seems like regardless of distance though the stone's being bigger at the base is true anyways. I need to crank out perspective exercises after I do the circles and ellipses.

I don't really know any exercises to do to practice perspective. For circles and elipses I have a vague idea of what to do, but perspective I've been having a hard time with. It seems every guide just tells you how to set the vanishing points and draw things at different angles, but nothing ever really goes beyond that.

Something I forgot to mention is that what can also help you out is to iterate a lot. Try doing more small scale sketches and constructing/trying things off the page. When you don't shoot for the finished final piece as the only drawing, you can get some pressure off of you and work things more easily.

Like I told Valley the other day, one thing you can use is tracing paper as the trad equivalent of digital layers. So you can lay it on top, sketch something you're unsure of and see how it works before you fully commit to adding it to the page proper.

Iteration was the original plan, but this tower was way bigger of an undertaking than I thought it would be. My routine was originally, look at a reference for 5 minutes to try and memorize it, draw it in 30 minutes, see where I messed up and repeat.

On the blurred images, engagement isn't the goal, just a nice bonus, and I suppose it relies on the same blind faith that what we post is produced on the same day.
