SU seemed to get a fair bit of praise for those homages too, in my circles. I don't know why western cartoons always get praised for copying anime though, but it's pretty telling when people only go nuts for something when it's trying to imitate something else well. Like when animaniacs did their anime scene. it was one of the main things I saw the show get praise for.
