IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

Friend, you have been crabbed, you are not /beg/.
/beg/ is there to help really early on folks get through the basics and wrap their head around fundamentals, things like thinking in 3d shapes and light. Please don't let people knock you down like that, post these either in the drawthreads, alt, or asg.
Your characters are very cute. I am a big fan of the perky tits, they are very appealing and nice to look at, the quality of your lines and colors makes rhem shine even more.
The only things negative to note is using above the hair for the eyes on the witch on one eye and below the hair for another eye, and that you can use the same educated lines you learned to use on the face on the eest kf the body and aspects of the drawing to make the kost out of it. I also think the curtain should interact with chara 2's hands and legs, and that the labia in chara2 should be defined by shades and broken line, rather than by hard lines.

Anatomy tethers together any humanoid subject you're trying to put together. Even a very stylized -cartoonish even- set of characters corresponds to anatomy that fits the style. Knowing how the subject will move and how each limb or precise muscles move facilitates the process of drawing in a style.

Consider adapting what you learn in anatomy to whatever style you're trying to pursue and this will make more sense. If I'm going to be drawing a character moving in different ways from panel to panel, I'm going to want to know beforehand how each limb bends and how the head twists. It would save a lot of time to know how the body changes with each pose. Also see Dynamic Posing that imply movement even if you're doing just one image of a subject.

The serratus muscles extend too far down the torso. There are 8 distinct "packs" of the abdomen and I only see 6. The last two will just barely be visible and extend towards the pubic bone. Your rendering of the abs makes them look far too prominent; I would lower the value range you're using. The shape made by the floating ribs will look different than what you've indicated. One side has a different shaped trapezius muscle than the other.

When you draw in small scale things tend to be closer together and let your own imagination fill in the gaps instead of using your creative muscle to add in details
The complete opposite happens as well when an artist draws in too big of a scale: the drawing feels empty and the little details feel like islands in the middle of the pacific

I have found that drawing in a 1000x1000 pixel canvas with pen size ranging from 7 to 14 is a good starting point for getting the hang of proper scale

Basically what I do is start from a point that seems easy enough and then simply copy the lines in relation to one another (size, angle, curvature, etc.). In this example I started from the knee and went to the foot first.
I haven't tried making the basic shapes yet and doing the details afterwards. I'm sort of hesitant to try this for some reason. But I will.

In this picture, I fucked up and now there's no space for hear face and the top of her head. Is there any way to remedy this without starting over?
Is this simply caused because I haven't drawn the basic shapes/ proportions before starting?

I'll post reference image next

1-How do I make it so the twinks ponytal doesn't merge with his body (make it more distinguishable)

2. Is the shadowing on the buff dude any good? Seems iffy to me. If it's not good, what is the best to cast a good shadow and cross-hatching?

3- Related to 1, how can I give depth using only one brush?

learn to draw retard. good anime reduces the complexity of real life people to eye-catching, essential, aesthetic properties. when you can draw a very nice eye and understand how to construct it, you can learn what details are critical and what details can be emphasized, removed, inserted, adjusted. these adjustments make an anime style.

HOWEVER.

You can also just draw anime. But if you take drawing seriously, you will kick yourself for the rest of your life for not learning to draw in an orthodox way. You WILL eventually have to learn to construct a head, to draw the figure, to observe and create accurate proportions.

You got it all wrong.
You gotta put as much effort as you can into drawing stuff you know you don't understand in order to maximize gains.
Obviously don't spend 2 days rendering a flat faced anime girl with broken legs but try to outdo your old drawing everytime.
Thats why I don't like doodles or "its just a sketch".
Your growth is proportional to how hard you go while you draw.
If you draw 100 hands in a session (with reference), you are going to get better.

Structure and anatomy are quite off. Sense of form is off. Same thing with proportions.
Crack open the popular resources on figure drawing here, draw figures in poses practicing your observation skills. Study anatomy. Learn how big the torso should be compared to the head. How clothing drapes and pulls over the body.

However there are some positives; lines are decent for a beginner, there's no chicken scratch. Also the gesture and intention of the drawing are pretty clear.

i'm 33 years old. i was discouraged from drawing all my life from when i was doodling and drawing comics as a kid to doodling in highschool. i studied stem because people told me to. i ended up hating it and im unemployable with my computer science degree. i work at a cashier for the last five years. throughout my life ive started and stopped trying to learn to draw over and over. at this point i've developed such a complex over being unable to draw and the fact that art communities think people like me are cute and laughable that i cant even set my pencil to paper anymore. every time i try i am filled with insane self hatred for wasting my life and lose all patience with myself. i'm worse than /beg/ tier. all my life i just wanted to be good at drawing but didnt know it and now its too late

to me all the art in this thread looks amazing and i cant imagine doing anything like it. i want to fucking die so bad. i hope people here go on to become what they want to be and become the opposite of me. i cant start anything anymore

It sounds more like you're depressed than just frustrated because you can't draw what you want.
Maybe try a hobby that doesn't take years to start being fun on the side, to keep yourself at the base level of happiness you need to draw absolute shit for three hours every now and then and feel it's pointless until it the day it doesn't. Like martial arts, hiking or something.
I'm about in the same situation as you except I still intend to get a STEM job and if drawing was the only thing I did for fun I'd have necked myself already.

As for the art part, maybe start with something simpler. get Keys to drawing and some simple anatomy book like Hampton's from libgen. Drawing random shit on your desk and cubes isn't as fun as that giant golem thing but that will keep you sane long enough to get there.

How do you set up the canvas size?

Do you make a big canvas to have a lot of place then you shrink down the actual drawing?

Zoom and rotate the canvas as much as you need to make strokes as comfortably as possible, but keep an eye on the thumbnail because it's easy to get lost in the details.
Personally I draw with A2 at 300dpi (7016x4961) for printing what I like and it's convenient for random doodling since there's a lot of wiggle room for cropping and fine details, a "small" doodle can be developed into a full pic without it getting too pixely for example. I don't really see the benefit of drawing small unless you want the pixel aesthetic.

If this beginner just keep doing what you're doing. Maybe focus on contour rather than construction if you're that early into it. You need some pen control and your constructions are leading to bad drawing habits because you aren't looking at the figure enough.

anxiety like that is a result of purporting to others/yourself that you're better than you know you actually are, and you're anxious because you know you won't be able to perform to that standard
the solution is to accept that you suck and/or stop lying to others/yourself
literally just set aside however much time you want per day/week/month and draw during it, with a set goal that you're working towards at any given time
the more time the faster you get better so long as you don't burn out
