I think reinstatements are fine once or twice but multiple reoccurrence shouldn't really be practiced. If you can't maintain a daily streak just lower your frequency to every other day.

Dear fellas,

I can't believe how fast things move on the outside. I saw a pen display once when I was a kid, but now they're everywhere. The world went and got itself in a big damn hurry. The Anons got me into this online website called “Do Art Daily”, drawing at least 30 minutes everyday. It's hard work and I try to keep up, but my hand hurt most of the time. I don't think the anons like me very much. Sometimes after work, I work on a quick doodle because I wasted my time all day. I keep thinking I might just git good, but I never do…
I have trouble sleeping at night. I have bad dreams, like I'm failing to post regularly. I wake up scared. Sometimes it takes me while to remember that my streak is safe for now. Maybe I should go full comer artist, so they'd send me “UOOOOH”s all the time. I should draw lolis while I’m at it, sort of like a bonus.

I guess I'm just to old for that sort of nonsense any more. I don't like it here. I'm tired of being afraid of losing my streak all the time. I've decided not to stay. I doubt they'll kick up any fuss. Not for an old NGMI like me.

hey dads is there a particular way of studying heads that works best? I was checking loomis but I think it's confusing
I was going to try another book to see if I can have better results. How would you go about practicing with these refs? i follow his tutorials often and I've been trying the one about heads but I feel it's still a bit confusing

Loomis is probably the simplest way to do it. It's going to be confusing at first because it's something new you haven't learned yet, just work at it over and over and eventually it'll make sense. Copy the head constructions out of the Loomis book, and memorize the proportions like how the face is divided into thirds, placement of the features, etc.

Studying anything you're generally copying out of a figure drawing book until you've memorized it, and then you try to apply it to references like that, rinse and repeat for years until you've got it down.

After you memorize the Loomis head, you can work on learning the planes of the face by studying Asaro heads, you can learn the structure of the skull, the muscles of the face, individual features, etc. Heads are some of the most difficult things to draw so don't feel too overwhelmed, take your time with it.

I think Maze gets special treatment due to their relationship with Banana. If I kept regularly dropping my streak and asking for reinstatements throughout the month, I wonder if I would be given the same privilege without a warning?

I'm deleting my submission and losing my streak. I don't care any more.

I work a full time job and submitting every day was a hassle for me. Learning it was meaningless made it easy to get me to take a break from it. If anything, I'm going to focus on writing instead of drawing for now. Thanks /dad/.

I do 30 because after a certain point your brain doesn't retain as much information. 20 is the number people throw around, but that's way too short and makes me rush. I could do an hour but I'm afraid of burnout or just passing up on it if my day is totally fucked, and also it'd give me too much time to re-do parts I'm weak on so they wouldn't be as prominent. A consistent 30 every day is the perfect mix of being so short there's no excuse to not do it, being short enough to make it a bit more challenging, but also long enough so it's not just me rushing all the way through.

Well to me it sounds like you got your personal timeframe down. My advice is don't beat yourself up about facing your own weakness. That's the only way to overcome it. It's still there when you're not looking at it so you might as well face it head on.
Also I wouldn't suggest relying too much on hard psychology since human beings are too varied for it to hold up. 30 minutes may be as long as some brains retain info, but other brains can and do go hours, while others still can't handle more than 15 minutes or whatever. No point in applying constants to what's incredibly varied. Better to push yourself and adjust from there. That'll be more accurate in your personal case than any diagram you find on google.

Like the active rest days help athletes avoid burnout while still staying active, say taking a day of the week to do cycling instead of skiing practice. For art it's very important to not just grind or force yourself to draw anatomy and boxes, but to take a day or an hour a day to just have fun and doodle.
