This is a thread to discuss all kinds of digital drawing hardware: non-display graphics tablets, pen display tablets, portable tablets and more.

>What should I buy?
State your:
>Budget
>Location
>Type (display? non-display? portable?)
>Size (in inches)
>Other information
>Previous equipment

If you have any additional questions, ask them.

>Recommended tablets:

Intuos 3 - Best budget tablet.
Intuos Pro M - The best non-display tablet.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite - Budget portable display tablet. Very solid drawing experience with Wacom EMR tech.
Used iPad Pro 2nd Gen 12.9" - Best option for a display tablet.
Galaxy Tab S7+ - Good premium alternative to an iPad Pro
Used Cintiq Pro 24 - Big tablet for big budgets

>Avoid:

XP-Pen, Huion, Gaomon and every other Chinese brand - Poor build quality, lackluster pens, broken tilt, struggles to register light pressure, horrible customer support and the displays are not calibrated. All Chinese brands are basically the same because they're all centralized. Also watch, Chinese companies shill HARD on /ic/; they do a lot of samefagging. Check out the webm to understand how bad they are.
Microsoft Surface Pro - The N-Trig digitizer means you will always get wobbly lines.
Lenovo - Bad drawing performance.

CSP fucked up sometime last night and reset all my settings, No idea what the Wintab and TabPC things mean, Anyone with a Artist 12 Pro know what any of this means or which is "Better"

>> No.5208649

>>5208594
Both Wintab and TabPC are interfaces used to translate your tablet strokes into input data. They basically digitize your strokes into whatever drawing program you're using. Wintab is the generic Windows tablet interface while TabPC refers to the newer interface build in the system, which in Windows' case is Windows Ink.

Windows Ink is newer than Wintab, and thus has better stroke stabilization, direction and pressure, but sadly it gets overridden by USB mouse movements, so you have to click out of the program to reset the input. Also, it isn't compatible with older programs like Photoshop CS6 because it's a fairly new interface.
Wintab is very old and has some input lag which results in blocky strokes, but you need it because many programs (legacy and new) only support Wintab, like some versions of PaintTool Sai.

In CSP case, I recommend you to stick to the TabPC (Windows Ink) setting, since it's way more smooth than Wintab.

Do any of you use display adaptors with your tablets? While unpacking the xp 12, I noticed that I only have one hdmi port, and upgrading video cards at this time would probably not be cheap. what's your definition of 'need'? I honestly don't know anyone that 'needs' a display tablet. I'd say those who do 3d sculpting are the most hard-pressed to believe they need it and that's not really true, they are just in a mindset of spending money == quality because of pc/tech culture. If I was a noob now I'd probably go straight to an ipad pro/samsung s tab. The portability and pixel density are good enough where imho they beat out a stationary large screen tablet. But I also come from primary a drawing and animation background.

In my experience, parallax, color inaccuracy, poor ergo, and bad performance aren't things you 'adjust to'. After 3 years, I went back to my intuos3. It takes up less space, my back feels much better, my eyes are less strained since I no longer bounce between two screens (I mean, technically I still have two screens but they're side-by-side and I'm not trying to draw on one lol).

I bought a refurbished Intuos 4S PTK-440 about 9 years ago. I wasn't sure if I was going to enjoy this hobby so I gave myself a budget, and that's what I wound up with. Well, I'm still drawing, so I think I deserve an upgrade with a slightly larger budget. I still think that a display may be too expensive for my tastes, but I am open to persuasion. Technically, my budget could allow for a Cintiq. I know some people think if it's something you love, then no amount matters, but man, that's a lot of god damn money.

My current tablet only has 2048 levels of pressure and it's the small version. I was thinking a modest upgrade would be the Intuos Pro M (which is listed in the OP). It'd be a larger surface, two more buttons, and 4x more levels of pressure.

My computer doesn't have Bluetooth. Does it still come with a cable? Should I spend a little more money and get some accessories (I don't even know what's out there, I hardly ever read about this stuff, and I should, but I don't want to be one of these people who obsesses over tech and never fucking draws).

I just bought a xp pen deco 01 V2 and it feels fantastic, especially for it's price. (I got it new for 56 USD online from xp pen official flagship store. I converted my local currency to USD so it may differ somewhat)

It's a great tablet for beginners and on YouTube lots of artists say they prefer it to even their expensive screen tablets. I'm just trying to say that get something you like, that you can afford. Just go with your budget man. I went for an XP pen 15.6 pro because it was within my budget and I was dying for a pen display. After I had a Wacom intuos 3 large and then a Wacom bamboo for a while I knew a small tablet or display wasn't an option for me because the bamboo nearly made me quite because I didn't like the size at all, so picking a "smaller" and "cheaper" cintiq was out of the question.

Actually, pressure levels do matter, but not in the way you think.
See this shit? It's called a 'shoelace artifact'. This happens because the art software gets confused when there are way too many pressure levels.
The solution? Get a tablet with 1024 pressure levels or less. 1024 levels is actually far more manageable for the software to process than 8k levels or so.

In Photoshop's case, the worthless cunts at Adobe never bothered to fix the shoelace glitch in neither of the CS and CC releases, so the solution for this is to either buy an used 1024-level tablet or just purchasing Lazy Nezumi.

Ironically, this means that old-ass tablets are actually far more useful than the new ones.

Here's a proper test. I can't really consider myself a artist at all but there generally is no problems 99% of the time at all. If there is some bad lines is usually because it's my fault or because the brush setting may be weird for what I'm trying to do with it. The problem I can say is that sometimes there is some pretty bad lag after time has passed but I just cleaned up the tablet to lessen all the resources being used like anti-virus programs and shit so it should perform better.

The only thing that sucks about the wacom wireless is thay if its 2.4g, it can and will be intereupted by cell signal or people and pets (or just stuff) between your tablet and the dongle. For FireAlpaca, your best bet would be the documentation on their website. All the youtube shit for that is teenagers explaining extremely basic stuff like brush size and undo button.

If you're looking for Medibang Paint stuff, Winged Canvas on youtube is a good one that goes through a lot of the functions and shows how to use them.

I've had one die on me from regular yet gentle use after about a month, so even if you didn't drop it, it doesn't mean it didn't just decide to break.

When drawing traditional way, the hand always blocks your view of the drawing and sometimes smudges which can be annoying for some people plus back neck and shoulder pain. The pen display is similar your hand is always blocking half of the drawing, don't have to worry about smudges but the back neck and shoulder pain can still develop when hunching over all the time. Some pen displays have a function where you can turn off the screen and work as a traditional pen tablet however, a lot of retarded professional artists don't know or use that feature. Nothing wrong with using pen tablet, sure there is a learning curve but your neck and shoulder will thank you for it.

1. Traditional artists use tracing paper to keep from smudging, and work on an easel or table easel set as close to a 90° angle as possible to prevent back and neck pain
2. Professionals use the same method with pen displays if they are smart.
3. All screen tablets can be used with the screen off as a regular tablet. Every model still draws power while the screen is off. Every model can be used with the screen off. If it is powered and the usb for cursor control is plugged in, it is usable.

If you have an onboard GPU then (unless the gpu is much older than the cpu) it is going to be vastly superior to the onboard graphics on your cpu. The motherboard detects your dedicated gpu and makes that its default video output source, often completely disabling the motherboard’s ports.

Yeah tried it out, it was disabled by default, found a solution to enable it again in the bios.
Gonna plug my main monitor and the Tablet into the GPU ports then and the second monitor in the onboard graphics port, nothing important is happening on that monitor anyway.
Should be the best solution if I don't want to unplug one of my monitors everytime I want to use the tablet, just hope having the dedicated GPU and the onboard graphics enabled at the same time isn't going to cause some horrible software gore in the background.

Thanks, my dude.

Those are some really good quality stylus.

My model is too old to handle CSP i guess, but the new ones could do the work fine, before that my first option to buy a new tablet was 100% Ipad, but now it seems that buy an Samsung tablet is really a very comfy option.

Never used an Intuous so I can't really help you there, though I don't think the 12WX would fell much different (I think it's only the newer ones that have the special grained glass).
Thinking about it though you do also need to be warned that:
a) it's DVI/VGA so if you're on a newer PC you'll need to get converters
b) its resolution is 1280x800, so probably smaller than what you're used to

Honestly, ymmv with it, but given that they're all pretty cheap at the $150~300 mark nowadays it could be a good place to dip your toe in and test the waters.

I bought a Chinese one because I'm just starting off myself and my budget capped at $45. I understand the tilt is shit but holding it straight will at least help with my writing I guess (maybe that's just a cope)? That said, being absolutely new to this so far I still enjoyed it, and if I ever manage to increase my skill on one to a sufficient level that I appreciate then I can probably get one of these nicer ones for myself for my bday or Xmas or something. I'll stay ITT to gain knowledge for the future.

P.S. I did watch a few review ones on YT and one guy was an animator who worked on AAA games himself ( I forget which one but you'd find the video easily by searching up the cheapest 6×4 non-display Huion) He definitely did indeed say he would not use it to work on his animation profession, yet he did mention that it would be a good fit he would recommend someone, say a parent looking for a first time tablet for their kid who is interested in it (or in my case a poorfag who seeks to rekindle his love of drawing - but I'm no artist, least of all a digital one. I'd be lucky to consider myself an artist with my shitty poetry - with a small budget, didn't suggest it in vid I took that upon myself). That said, he may have been paid by Huion for a good review I wouldn't know one way or the other.

I'm not even shilling for Huion myself either as I ended up getting a cheap 10*6 one whose brand I won't mention because I won't be accused of shilling, but will show picture proof if requested.

It's partially a joke. Basically it's telling you four things:
1. Used tablets will save you a fuckton of money and generally work about as well as new ones.
2. Only get wacom unless you're looking for a tablet with its own visual readout.
3. Go for a medium sized tablet. Large if you exclusively work at home and/or just prefer large workspaces. Avoid small, since they're just a hassle.
4. Avoid Chinese tablets like the plague. Chinese shills absolutely fucking love this general, so much that it's in the OP. I WILL get an instant Chinese shill reply calling me a schizo or some shit.
One thing, though, Wacom 5 is trash tier as the USB ports go to shit fast. If you're just starting out with tablets, your best bet is a Wacom Intous 3, Wacom Intous 4, or a Wacom Intous Pro M North. I personally suggest 3 since it's a durable and solid tablet that you can get for dirt cheap.

It's designed by Japanese, manufactured in China, same as Wacom.

And there it is.
All you need to know about XP-PEN is right here.
It was founded in Japan in 2005, sold out to China in 2015, where it opened its office in Shenzhen.
Now it's just another branch of the Hanvon Uvee Group, completely controlled by China.
TL;DR. XP-PEN shills are rampant here and they always have the same tactics. Look at the webm here>>5238880 and stick with Wacom.

Normally what we would do, is go into stores and test them ourselves instead of relying on disingenuous (sounds like a good name for a tablet) reviews by faggot reviewers saying it's okay for beginners and shill and counter shill fags here saying it's shit but affordable. The artist 12, imo, was barely usable. It might be shit, affordable and okay for beginners, but it's not worth the money, and that's what's important imo. You need to want to keep something, and use it long enough to buy something better if you're a beginner. Not buy it, find out the screen is too far away from the pen, and feel like you've been chinked by Hiro into buying a pass.

All you need to understand is that Cintiqs are outrageously priced because of the little competition they've seen and now their shills are going crazy when competitors offer pen displays for 50-75% less.

He is. He also doesn't seem to understand what "designed by japanese people" means.

Whatever just ignore him.

There's no point in reasoning with them. They get paid to deflect, not debate.
This one is desperately holding onto the fact that XP-PEN was founded in Japan, while heavily leaving out the fact that they sold to China quick and that XP-PEN is now just a subsidiary of Hanvon Ugee Group.
