Same. I understand the importance of drilling fundamentals, but man I must be really weak-willed. I'm guessing it's like playing an instrument. Do you need to drill chords and scales before trying to play a simple song? I don't know how it works, but Id probably give up on that too. I could play some crappy semblance of the song, but I might have fun doing it, and then focus and improve parts I had trouble with.
I don't know, I'm untalented and weak-willed with any artistic pursuit. I'll just watch everyone here work and improve

I think the barrier comes from not having the right subject matter. If your goal is to draw cute waifus, this lesson plan is going to be the driest, most mundane boring shit you'll ever see. The whole goal of this program is to teach your how to think in 3d and apply the construction to your drawings. If you can get into that mindframe and try to apply the lessons to subjects you enjoy drawing, you'll get much farther.

While I'm still going through it the lessons and excersizes ars pretty good, just make sure you absolutley draw for fun alongside lessons 1,2 and the 250 box challenge or you will burn out very fast and become one of the crabs that shits up every drawabox thread

Before making your own song, probably. You don't need it to copy one.

Fundamentals are to art what music theory is to song writing. You can make stuff without it but it will be easier and better if you know your shit.

My bad. Still, that box is unforgivable. I guess some of the basic exercises are useful though.

I'm doing the 250 box challenge right now. I already got more than half but at the moment I can't bring myself to draw more than 5-10 a day

Yes. I have a lot of boxes drawn.

Then what exactly is the exercise? How is this anon only drawing 5 boxes a day? that sounds so demoralizing.

I’d shoot myself in the face if drawing 5 boxes drained my motivation to draw the rest of the day. Sounds awful. Like the worst exercise ever created, specifically designed to make someone give up on drawing.

>> No.5225021

why does it have to be that? It propably is just about the motivation for drawing boxes specifically

His perspective shit sucked out all interest I had in it, and it's making it hard for me to fucking go back into perspective over how much his lessons sucked on it. Complaining isn't going to make me any better at drawing waifus, so I might as well try and find a good book on it or something. I've noticed he's recommending Marshall Vandruff's lessons, whats the general opinion on em?

>> No.5225414

I only did 5-10 a day as well anon. The whole drawing a box thing is definetly the biggest hump/noob gate of the course but you'll get through it. Just be consistent and draw at least 5 a day

I think the draw 250 box challenge is dumb. Doing a few like 5 or 20 boxes each day is better cause you're gonna retain it and you're not gonna want to kill yourself. Bored? Just bash out a few boxes, easy.

>> No.5225435

why do /begs/ keep doing this to themselves. You know the instructor sucks at drawing, you can use your eyes. Just check his art. Why would you even bother with a course he designed. That's like a Grade 1 student choosing to learn from a Grade 3 student instead of a teacher. Sure he may be right, after all he did learn from a teacher but the teacher is 10x better. There's so many other courses on perspective. Come on.

>> No.5225436

>>5220591
Myself and other artists i know got a lot from it when starting.
Mainly the 3d thinking n consistency which is pretty much the core things you need.

Is it perfect? Not at all but its constanttly being improved , its pretty good. Like if i had to start over from skill level 0 theres a few things i wouldnt do but i would do draw a box again.

Its free. Give it a try

you guys actually fell for this prank? While you're drawing boxes, people out there are copying anime and making money.

You should be doing both, and drawabox recommends at you spend at least 50% of your time drawing what you want to draw without restraint.

It's literally just tits built with very precise construction around boxes and perspective.
You lack the perspective to realize it since you still have an outsider's mentality but drawing is a lot more methodical than you think it is especially when japs are involved.

You don't drill fundamentals
You learn, you apply, you repeat.
/ic/ tends to skip the apply and repeat part in order to rush to the next big thing while keeping up mileage juggling every fundamental at the same time
You can't just go through an entire book in an evening
Take your time on a single subject so you save it to memory
30min-1h of fundamentals and applying said skills in practice will speed up your progress a lot more than just drilling them and drawing thousands of pages of boxes

You're not weak-willed you're probably more of a moron. Try doing this, just read a book on perspective or reread everything in draw-a-box, and don't do any of the practices/drills. Just try to wrap your mind around the concept of perspective until you understand it and it "clicks".

Once it clicks then do the drills. Hell I didn't even do the drills because once you wrap your head around the concept/principles doing the drills is pretty easy and straightforward and once you have it internalized you have it forever.

It scares me the amount of people who don't understand this. You guys were probably the people in school that didn't listen to the lecture and would get home and cram homework and say "I DIDNT LEARN THIS!". Well if you listened to the lecture and tried to wrap your head around the concept in class and ask questions you wouldn't have to cram with no base knowledge at home.

Talent doesn't really exist either, the people that super secede and become better than their peers can just break down complex topics/subjects into manage pieces or "understand what's going on" because they've wrapped their head around the underlying principles.

>>5220896
>The whole goal of this program is to teach your how to think in 3d and apply the construction to your drawings.
It scares me how little people understand this.
