New comic thread

The Cowboy thread is about to be toast so I'm making a new comic thread. Post any comics you'd like to share and give feedback.

Sharing a short one I made a while back for inspiration, posting more work later this week. Hopefully the cowboy guy finds his way in here.

I, too, will be embarking on a cowboy adventure, Western Anon. This idea's been in my head for a little while now and I've been itching to get it out for the last few days; don't worry though, the content and aesthetic direction are going to be quite different from yours. Maybe we'll be able to trade some inspiration given the desert setting. Looking forward to seeing how your story progresses.

I wrote a rough draft for part 1 last night and just banged out this character sketch sheet for the protagonist. Let me know what you guys think.

I'm not trying to "go anywhere," I'm just trying to tell a story about a cowboy. The goal is to make this into a graphic novel, print at a local shop, and then maybe sell it at zine/comic cons.

I'm going through the last comic I made... It's a shame I don't have the energy to do it again, but I still like the ideas very much. I was doing it on a 1 hour ish timeframe every day, sometimes twice a day depending how tired I was. I thought the enviornment was perfect for the format I was using and the subject matter, instead nobody was interested or giving any input so I just folded it. Maybe I'm just shit at comics. hey guys, I am interested in getting into comics and I have tried in the past but always failed. I would always start on a project that was just too large in scope for my skill level. But the problem I find with starting small is I don't even know what sort of story I could tell in like five pages or less. When I look up writing I always get information on the 5/3 act structure and all that for telling fully fleshed out stories but it's hard to find how to structure or conceive of something much smaller that aren't just comedy

in regards to the first one, I think you need to find a way of rewording the first speech bubble, at the moment mario's just over describing the way he's a game character which is way less subtle, instead you should make him go on a rant about how free will is an illusion or something that isn't as on the nose. also the punchline is a really disappointing conclusion to an otherwise comedic concept, it's so obvious poorly thought out and immature and it feels like you created it as a means to justify the concept
I like the ugly ass characters but the arms and hands could be drawn the same way as the legs, and the hands less like traditional cartoon characters. at the moment it looks like you removed a kid's cartoon character's limbs and slapped them onto a mesh of robert crumb and gary larson
as for the other comics, they're not really that good. there's a way to make lowbrow jokes like these funny but at the moment they just seem needlessly edgy

here's what I have done for every visual story telling piece I have ever made:

>draw a character or two
>try to bring them to life with your imagination, imagine how they act
>then draw them in an environment, interacting with the environment and any other characters you create
>just try and let the story tell itself

your brain naturally makes up stories about things if you pay close enough attention, it's hard to follow the white rabbit sometimes though

>>5221588
hell yeah the legend continues.

I think you could maybe use some more action/motion lines like you're using them to convey motion in the Absolute Power Move 4th panel. I think showing some motion for other movements would help make this feel a bit more dynamic, as well as exploring other camera angles. Each of the first three panels are very similar, showing different angles will help the reader get a better idea of the action taking place as well as keep them visually stimulated. This is good stuff, keep it up.
