it's almost become a bad habit, every 10ish minutes when I zoom out and check how my image is progressing I flip & flip back as like a small ritual, before getting back to it.

The trick is to flip constantly while making the fix.

Yeah, it does help. Things that looked a little off in the regular view became apparent when flipped and fixing it makes it look just as good or even better in the regular view.
The hard part is when you're drawing traditionally.
