IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

Well boobs are not perfect circles, ever. The circle on the right side hip (her left) you circled inside the red outfit while on the other side you circled right before the red outfit so the one on the right is larger so they are not equal in size. Fix that and then finish the drawing and adjust it afterwards. Remember to use the art part of your brain, not the math side that measures if a copied thing matches because that art of the brain sucks at math. Calm fast confident stokes and stop and start over if you find yourself trying to hard to get things right. Rely on your subconscious to do the math of it looks equal and erase and redraw a line till it looks right. You need to train your subconscious to do the higher math. Tap into the same math ability sports stars use to accurately calculate trajectory, speed, and impact of a ball in a millisecond.

I still want to improve. Im trying to improve at drawing floating heads and looking feedback for drawing better floating heads. I simply disagree with the conventional wisdom on /ic/ that states it is necessary to draw hands and bodies and all these things in 3d space in order to get better at drawing jaw lines and planes of the face. It doesn't make sense. I have an itemized list of things I want to improve at, and I want to focus one at a time. When I feel like Ive reached a certain point, Im okay with moving on. It does. It's like learning to drive and saying "I want to be sure I move the wheel correctly before I get on the road... Driving won't make me better at turning the wheel"
It's a mentality seen everywhere, from sports, to love life, to art. You'll spend months waiting for the "right moment" but it will never come. Like that dude in /asg/ who's been drawing sketch dolls for a year and never got better

Here's an advice for your heads :
Draw them at different angles, don't get stuck on the 3/4 profile view

/ic/ is the biggest and best public online art community and it’s total shit. Maybe there are some private discords or something where people are actually skilled and helpful.
Most art teachers who advertise themselves as art teachers are pretty shit as well, the main skills they teach are copying photo refs and drawing weird box people. Unless you can develop a personal relationship with a skilled artist who is willing to mentor you, you’ll mainly be teaching yourself. And even if you can get a mentor, they can’t download art skills into your brain. The most they can do is help you analyze the mistakes in your work and give you tips on what direction to go in.

Are you trying to be dense on purpose? Study the shit out of references and read the books and grind the fucking basics and do all that shit. It will help a TON. But progress is never and will never be a mechanical affair. No amount of grinding will make you good until you take all that you've learned and take the leap into making it your own.

One thing is not divorced from the other. If you look constantly for advice you will never progress - you need to start carving out your own path. I can recommend whatever artist or reference book I like, but that's the thing, those are the ones I LIKE, the ones that fit my style and taste and way of learning. Yours is different. There isn't a single one-rule-fits-all. Research on your own artists, the ones you really like and admire, look at the way they do things and find the sources they learned from and research into those.

>>5194478
I dunno man there's a lot of clutter there and as far as I can tell not much that is helpful.
The things I would focus on are the shape of the red dress because it's pretty distinct in comparison to the form and then a simplification of the mayor forms (ribcage, hip, legs.)
The ellipses for the Form for the leg on the left are okay but for the leg on the right for some reason it's on the wrong axis and tilted in the wrong direction. (that is if I understand what you're trying to do, like i said it's a bit of a mess.)
It's hard to tell what you should work on since as far as an actual drawing is concerend there's not much there.
But I get the sense you don't really understand Form, so whip out your figure drawing book of choice and go to the chapter that focuses on that.

>>5195256
could use better: line quality, line simplicity, awareness of angles, proportions, snazzy shapes, some actual forms.
For improving line quality there's not really much to do except think more about where you want a line to go and if you can make it simpler and more elegant.
Ghost over a line and then try to hit it with a clean smooth stroke.
Angles and proportion is essentially measuring, you just have to pay better attention/ relate things to one another.

Probably a retarded question, but are those cylinders how you're getting a feel for the overall structure of the body, or are you just dumbing things down for us after you drew it? I like how it gets you thinking about the curvature of the chest and how things should meet up at the pelvis.

>> No.5196329

Does tracing help improve line confidence and control for those of us prone to "chicken scratch" lines? I was tracing a screenshot from a game last night and I felt I got better at doing longer line segments at a decent, varying thickness while also following the contours of the characters better. Before, I would try to trace a long segment in one stroke, but I would fail to follow the line I was tracing. I diagnosed it as not being "ambitious" enough early on, but then I noticed I needed to keep my eyes farther ahead of my hand to follow the line better as well. Has anyone else done this before? What was your experience?

>> No.5196411

>>5196296
You mean the cylinders to the right? yep those are only to underline what I'm thinking about while drawing, I don't usually draw it outright.
It depends tho, sometimes if you're having a problems it might help to do that anyway and then work over it.
The cylinders are limited though, if you draw it out you probably want to go for more appropriate forms for the problem you're working on. What really helped me with that was the vilppu drawing manual. He starts going into all that jazz fairly early and imo fairly comprehensively.
Usually I just use ellipses to settle the form on the page/ in my mind and try to work them in so that I can use them organically in the final drawing.

>> No.5196504

>>5196411
I'd probably have to read his explanation of it then, because I tried it but couldn't really get the hang of it (but i also im brand new to this stuff, so it's definitely just me and not the method). What are you thinking about their placement, in relation to the rest of the body, when you draw them? I've been working on a similar method since yesterday where you use trapezoids instead to kind of establish a frame of reference for the shoulders and pelvis and their placement in space (which i guess kind of accomplishes the same thing.).

How do I go about making proper linework?
I usually do the sketches on a Raster layer, then create a Vector layer for the linework since it basically has best quality and you can manipulate the lines around as well instead of erasing often, but whenever I do it, the actual result just seems like shit in comparison to the sketch.

Just feels like it lacks detail or sometimes the lines still come out looking too wonky or squiggly even when I turn on Smoothing.

This depends on what you're going for, but I think it's good to get into the mindset of not worrying about making perfect, clean lines when during your line stage. That's not really what linework is about. Sure, having clear lines helps with clarity and that's important, but you need to be *at least* capturing the same level of energy that's found in your sketch. So a good focus on line weight, hatching, or any other technique is crucial here. Study that. It can almost help to view your line stage as just another sketching stage (but cleaner). Just keep refining until it looks the way you want it.
Being a linework master might be one of the hardest paths to take when it comes to drawing. It's draftsmanship at its purest. It's why most artists take the colouring/rendering route as soon as they can.

How to do this "from head" and in 3/4 or 45 deg where is no perfect round on pelvis etc? I like Vilppu technology but can't use it properly (I prefer to "feel" the form and compute it's outline in mind but it's not super effective at all, especially when there is no many refs from different angles, for example an intersection with two different cylinders with no ref is very hard so I fails at leg-to-belly connection when camera at weird angles). Also what good exercises for line precision and accuracy (more effective than simply draw a lot of stuff)? When I want to put a line knowing it's wanted location and form it actually puts anything elsewhere with 10-50 px miss and then is an unlimited ctrl-z works starts. Maybe my hand is too weak.

I appreciate the beauty of the nude human body. I do not jerk off to my work, and I do not just draw porn. I enjoy the beauty of God's creation in all its forms, contours, and angles.
But why do you care? You're just some rabid shitposter. I don't draw this because Im horny, I draw it because its fun to learn. How does the vagina and pelvis look from this angle? How do boob form across the chest at this angle? You see nudity and any slighty sexual content and instantly deviate it to degeneracy, because YOUR mind is rotten by some retarded propaganda you read on pol or some other shit
Hornyness is the reason the human race is alive, its the reason I have sex, and its the reason you will seethe. Also dilate

It's from the figuary '21 yesterday's video. It is a extremely boring pose.. The head part fucked me up making the rest of the figure kinda hard to draw. I noticed the boxy shape of the pelvis and the tube of the upper body but the head killed it for me.

I'm assuming you're going for frantic running but this just looks like angry powerwalking or she's holding in a wicked shit and is looking for a bathroom.
Reminds me of when I tried to animate a stick figure run cycle with zero refence and it just ended up looking like a weird long step walk.
looks like 5/6/7 from this image would be better choices for your character's pose. You got the idea with the torso twist and arm movement but the legs kill it. I liked your drawing more before I scrolled down and saw them desu.

I'm beg tho so feel free to ignore since i might be talking out my ass.
