IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.

Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS using one of the following methods:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

Sticky document:

Any other sculptfags here?

Practicing with plastiline, I want to make a figurine later in the year with polymer clay, maybe get into silicone and resin casting since polymer clay is too brittle. But there are manny things I want to practice first.
A few of my observations
I've tried making an anime-figure head, but a lot of detail in those is printed on instead of sculpted, so I may get into a more realistic head (while keeping anime proportions).
My biggest problem at the moment is the feet, my years of anti-feet-faggotry have made very ignorant on the shapes, I have Anatomy for Sculptors which has been of great help, but the block-out of the feet is lacking, and while I can (and will) use my own feet as reference, I would like to have more resources, specially to make them more feminine-looking, even if it burns my eyes.
The right thigh needs more material in the medial face to make the curve less pronounced
Then there's the forearm, it is relatively simple and I am overthinking it, but me not having defined forearms has made me ignore them.
The deltoid is too big and fat for the arms I have in mind
I feel that I must redo the posterior side of the knee. I remember they were fine in my last sculpture, but that one broke and threw it away.
Finally, I've seen figurine sculptors do (for example) the entire leg with a single piece of clay, then sculpt it all at once to give it shape. Meanwhile I do the basic shape, add muscles and structures separately, then smooth, and add/remove material to create a single piece. Is my autism going to bite me in the ass later on?

If it turns out fine I may turn her into a Shuten Douji sculpture, just add her clothes, itty-tiddies and her hair

Work on the quality of your lines, it's all over the place. Generally, you want thin lines where there's light, and thick lines to imply darker areas. Also pay more attention to contour - you can use thicker contour lines to define the figures from each other, and to help create the illusion of depth - the eye gets confused at the muddle of line weights you're using here.
This is above your skill level - it's a good attempt, but i can tell you're jumping around too much, trying to do too much, and the whole piece suffers for it. Try more simple subjects, work on hands, work on line quality, work on accuracy and pleasing to the eye. There's far too many random lines here. "feeling the form" is appropriate here - every line should be intentional, defining the borders and shapes and contours of the figure. Look at each line as it exists - AND how it relates to the other lines around it, and if you're being accurate or not. Your forms are wonky because you're not paying attention to each line like that.

Try drawing each character, as a study. Try to capture each on accurately, and using contour and line weight to make a pleasing rendition. Then consider doing them all together, and then rendering the background more pleasing to the eye - what you did is a cop out.

Also, work on bigger paper. You shouldn't draw right to the edge like that, you should always frame your work on the page, and drawing a boundary helps 'own" the page and setting up the composition. Working bigger will also give you more room to vary your line weights so you don't get the over-drawn lines on the hands.

They're still too stiff. Overall, there's a lot of advanced symbol drawing here, over poorly thought out anatomy, poor proportions, and pure cop outs on things like hands, feet, and hair.

Start looking at photos and video of dancers. Watch how the body changes when the center of gravity changes, as they shift their weight from leg to leg, and how the body flows in movement, then capture that. Gesture, contour. Pay attention.

It's just a series of mistakes compounded into one figure. Look at the figure on the right - the thigh in the background is twice as big as it should be. You need to study that entire part of the body, the forms and muscles of it, to make a pleasing image of a dancer, because hips are a big part of dancing - and drawing the body correctly.

Stiffness is definitely an issue here, but its not the only one. LOOK at the human body, how it's constructed, and how it's masses change shape in movement. Even in cartooning you have to get that right or it will never be credible.

I'm 2.5 months in or so into drawing. I've been using Loomis' figure drawing book and barely got into his head & hands book, which I've really just used to help orient the head better during figure drawing.

I've done some anatomy stuff as supplement.

I'm looking to find the artist of some art (I believe he does primarily coomer art), and have had no luck in sourcing the two images I have of their art. Other than searching for the image on google and yandex, I'm lost on methods of how to find the artist.

What are the most used platforms that artists (more amateur than professional, although both would be appreciated) use to get exposure and critiquing?

Are there any other tips you could perhaps give me in how to source the pieces online?

Thank you so much in advance.

At what point do you stop relying a lot on construction and start "feeling" proportions and shit?
A lot of very experienced artists jump straight to painting, or use an extremely simplistic undersketch. Like at what point will I know that I'm ready to start drawing portraits without spending 10 minutes on a drawing a ball, its cross section, and chopping off the side?

Construction is just a tool to help you draw. You will ideally create your own simplified method over time as you get better. There's no one way with construction, each artist has their own personal approach and you need to develop yours by seeing how others construct their drawings and what methods *actually* help you.

>proportions
Just study some basic stuff like halves and maybe loosely some head measurements, enough to know what the baseline is in case you don't know how long legs need to be. Just don't be too literal with it, proportions should be broken to fit the aesthetic appeal of the drawing. It'll take time but getting better at using your intuition and eyeballing things is going to help you a lot here.
