It's worth it. I've been reading through it today and it is all the anatomy you'd need to know for drawing as far as I can tell. While you could probably find the basic information scattered across multiple other books, this one has it all in one place and more. It's very information dense and has better presentation it better than other books on the subject that I've seen.
>>5175473
>>5176020
It's true that our anatomy has not changed in the past several decades, if not centuries. But just like two historians can look at the same batch of letters written centuries ago and come to different conclusions about the people that wrote them, two different artists can look at the human body and think of unique ways to present the information to their audience based off their individual experiences as artists. Inevitably, some ways of presentation will be better than others and some methods will be easier for the reader to understand.
Methods of teaching and understanding do improve over time even if the basic information is still the same. So while there is something to be said for digging into tried and true guides from the past, I feel like modern teachers have the edge because not only did they study the masters they also bring new information, perspectives, and methods to the table in addition to that background. Yes they stand on the shoulders of giants, but because of that they see farther. And I feel like this is a book that sees farther.
>>5176036
And it'll look damn good there too. I'm happy with this purchase.
>>5176059
Proko is great and another example of a modern teacher that builds off what the masters have done. But I think a book is more convenient for many reasons, especially for quick reference. Sure you can dig around a bunch of video files and folders when you're in a pinch, but isn't it more convenient just to grab a book, go to the table of contents, and flip to the right page?

It's not any different than a medical anatomy or artist's anatomy book in terms of content, but the way the author lays out a group of muscle by layers helps think about it in 3D rather than just saying "these muscles go together" he also gives a pretty easy to digest breakdown of how muscles, ligaments, and tendons work together on the skeleton, where they attach, how they attach, etc.

It's like a bridge between medical usage and artistic needs for gross anatomy.

If you're only going to get one I'd get Morpho. It's classic french-ecorche. Absolutely realistic anatomy in the round, flayed down to the bone. But, if you can afford it, Proko anatomy is probably better because it has 3d renders of bones and its laid out completely as a course. Marshall does some of the videos where you have to make the bones and joints into geometric cylinders and cubes, so thats nice too. Bammes is also really great, as is Bridgman

You have to take these things for what they're worth to you. It isn't the final answer on anatomy that it's occasionally being billed as, hardly. But it also has some nice, elucidating illustrations in it. I've already studied the Chinese upload quite a bit and learned useful information from it. But I'm also still looking at other anatomy books and photos of real people constantly. This is an intro or supplement to anatomy, but a solid one.

Lol my copy just came in today. I was so impressed by it that I went back to the site and ordered the other two books as well. They shipped yesterday and should be here before the start of next week. I'm most curious about the Peter Han bible since it's distinct from the first one and no scans of it exist online. Should be cool.

I don't have a book scanner nor will I waste hours of my life taking shitty photos of a 600+ page anatomy tome to get nothing in return. I also own a dozen other Japanese animu drawing books people beg for scans of but you won't be getting them from me lol. Even if I could, I doubt my contribution would be appreciated given how catty you crabs are.

The people itt saying the book isn't worth it or is shit are sour grapes. It's just another fucking tool, not the magic secret to having perfect anatomy. Stop seething over a book and get back to drawing.

>bridgman, bammes, morpho, richer, peck's atlas of anatomy, anatomy for sculptors, goldfinger anatomy
I've extensively read all except Richer and Peck. Bammes is okay but way too up his own ass in theory. It may be the English translation but it's complete fucking obscurantist gobbledygook. He relies a lot of student and classical/master drawings for some reason and his "architectural" approach while useful in some cases, isn't in others. I like his knee conceptions.
Bridgman is good but he's doing an entirely different thing, his drawings are also rough and not always easy to interpret. Morpho's book on fat is great, don't care so much for his scribbly anatomy sketches though. Goldfinger is good for basics as well as origins and insertions but he's also very wordy and more suited to the dry facts of art anatomy.

Each of these resources have pros and cons, each has something to offer. Why is it always so extreme with this board? Either a resource is divinely sent from the art gods or it's complete trash not even suitable for wiping one's ass.
The book does have a lot of padding though. I'm not sure that you need to be able to read it beyond knowing the muscle names, which you can just google.

my point was that we already have great resources people can learn from now that people keep putting off. i don't really read the words in books, i copy the pictures, so i don't know or care what bammes has to say. i learned the names and mechanics of anatomy from scott eaton, i learned to draw things from books and copies. people on here shouldn't treat one anatomy book as the truth, they should build their own feel based on what they like from all the sources available. you might not like how someone does something but you can still learn from it or move on to something else. if none of them stick then the problem is more with that person and their way of studying. i'm also sick of the asian jeans meme that's been forced here lately, especially when you can directly trace back anatomy to some of the books mentioned and other anatomy books.

i'm not the other post.

Anatomy for Sculptors is not a book for learning how to draw or paint anatomy. It's a reference for 3D artists or 2D artists that already know their anatomy.

>> No.5186785

I agree on all that. Resource hoarding and hunting, trying to find the perfect learning materials rather than just learning is a big problem here. Almost anything not terrible will do for a start. Stonehouse is just another resource that should neither be over or undervalued.

I've went to see movies that only had terrible quality Korean cam uploads full of ching chong runes and ads when I wouldn't have if there was a decent copy to pirate. There IS a class of pirate who will literally never buy, but there are also those like me who will buy if it's overwhelmingly more convenient. I'm beginning to wonder though whether K-pop is really the disease or a symptom… I inspected the communist propaganda and I discovered many instances of glorification of female strength in Chinese art but none in North Korean art.
