The top picture is meant to be in-game propaganda illustrations of the 4 main characters that the enemy soldiers put up in their base. As you can see by pic related (old art from the series, 4th girl in both pictures) the characters look quite normal in reality
The bottom is from a new mobile title in the series, and those 4 are meant to just be illustrations of the 4 main characters. However that doesnt stop it from being completely soulless. The girls look like korean gacha sluts and the guys still look goofy which makes no fucking sense. If you're gonna do the guys goofy do the girls goofy too. But that doesn't sell to the chinese consumer base god FUCK YOU TENCENT YOU RUIN EVERYTHING

I understand the sentiment of the image you posted and generally agree with it but the examples shown are generic and uninspired.
If my two options are nice looking anime girl and boring monster I'll always choose the anime girl and so will basically everyone else that isn't a natural contrarian.
I'd prefer a cool monster but most people can't create those, they either don't have the talent and so instead they make something visually and artistically ugly or they don't have the creativity and make something highly rendered but completely dull.
