IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
Use this thread instead of making new threads or post in the Drawthread with fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH!

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

Well, unlike the two examples you used, practicing Loomis won’t fuck you or kill you. Either you try it and it works or it doesn’t, the stakes aren’t very high as there isn’t much to be gained or lost. I learned Loomis head for fundies and it helped a little bit but eventually I picked up other stuff and learned my own way of going about things. I’m no pro, but everyone had their methods. Try it, if you don’t like it for reasons other than “it’s too hard” then move to something else and keep grinding.

Figure Drawing for all it's Worth and Drawing the Head and Hands are genuinely good books that have been used and referenced for a fairly long time. Fun with a Pencil is also decent for people who are brand new to drawing and have trouble grasping the idea of construction and drawing volumes. Even Japanese artists talk about Loomis. He turned into a meme because the books were public domain at one point, making them the most obvious and frequently recommended resource.

There are definitely a lot more options than just Loomis, like Jack Hamm, Vilppu, Morpho, Hampton, Hogarth, etc that you will eventually want to explore, but I think the Loomis books are very good for teaching basic human proportions and construction in a way that's not too intimidating. Also out of a lot of the figure books I still think Loomis heads are some of the more appealing ones.

I think with Bridgman, some of the drawings are so calligraphic and vague, it can be hard to understand unless you're already somewhat familiar with muscles. It depends on the particular plate. I got constructive anatomy back when I first started and copying out of it made me a lot better at drawing accurately but I can't say I was able to learn much from it at the time. Jeff Watts is currently working on a book series that's just him cleaning up the Bridgman books to make them easier to understand, so that should tell you something. For a beginner, Hampton's book is good, the Morpho simplified forms book, the Loomis books, Vilppu, Jack Hamm, Hogarth etc.

Sketch a lot and put an emphasis on studying books and good artwork. Draw to learn, have a plan and a goal, don't just noodle. Keep at it every day and find as much time as you can to draw. If you have 15 minutes to watch a video you have time to do 3 5 minute figure drawings. Take care of your wrist. Something I think that really took me too long to realize, you have to sit down and go at the books hard. Really memorize that shit. If you open up a Loomis book, doodle some of the stuff, and then you don't look at it again for a week cause you're just trying to draw anime coom from your imagination, you're not learning. Copy it out over and over and over and over, get some photos and try to apply that shit to something from reference, if you don't remember it, go back to studying it. The end product of that process is that it's in your brain well enough that it shows in your creative work that's done without reference. If you want to be creative, put an emphasis on sketching mountains of stuff, construction, and perspective, build that visual library. Buy a sketchbook and fill it. If you aren't filling pages with sketches on a daily basis something is wrong.

Study books, study an artist you want to emulate, try to apply what you learn to photo practice, repeat for years. Watch people draw on youtube and try to emulate what they're doing.

The boobs were kind of an after thought but yeah
I do sometimes get told "stop drawing anime" when all I do is draw anime faces but I still try to study real faces and bodies, and stylize it how I want to draw.
Sometimes I feel like my creativity is what holds me back too because then I fail at composing a picture. I probably just need to keep failing. I wanna be able to draw nice manga pages one day, there's so much to learn

I learned it from figure drawing and Karl Gnass lectures, but dynamic sketching with Peter Han and drawabox are two other good resources that I find more exciting to use for learning form and perspective for indicating volume. Later on down the road you could look at the How to Draw book from Scott Robertson, but that has a somewhat advanced industrial design bend that can make it hard to get the good nuggets of information for someone not familiar with that kind of stuff.

Good work though! Your stuff has a lot of heart!

draw the direction of the light on top anon, it makes no sense.
The bounce light sits in the shadow where ambient occlusion should happen, and you have ambient occlusion (or at least darks) on the right side bottom of the egg where bounce light should happen.

Do it again. This time consider the light source position carefully, and draw a line from the lightsource to object and continue the line to the ground, to figure out where the shadow is cast.

My first landscape. I've always hated drawing anything but people because I feel like it turns out shit, but I actually think I did ok this time. It's a lot softer than I'd like and I had trouble with the mountain sides. I don't like the colors. What do you think? Drawing the tiny details was really fun. Also, I noticed the color is drastically more saturated on my 1080p monitor compared to my 4k monitor. I hope it looks good on your computer. Im beg myself but I think the percpective on the front guys leg and arm is a bit off so it's bordering on that uncanny valley feeling. Also just generally it looks really busy and even though its a sketch its pretty unclear as to whats going on. It looks a lot like a random sketch book page and not a sketch for an illustration. The poses also look a bit stiff but im not sure what style your going for because realism is just gonna be kinda stiff but if you're going for more anime/cartoon maybe exagerate some things like have the back leg go back further and taper out more and have the front leg face the camera more.

Honestly though It's looking pretty solid I'd just say to push things a bit more because it looks a bit boring.
