go with a more suggestive approach for the hair idk. It really depends on the style you're trying to achieve. Find an artist who really impresses you and study hard maybe dedicate a whole day just to hair rendering. Something will eventually stick. Add some more color to everything, you’ll find color on skin tones that you wouldn’t expect, but it adds a lot more life. Don’t shade with blacks/greys and highlight with whites (you haven’t exactly done that but I feel like it might head in that direction). Shade with colors. I.e. If you highlight with a light blue, use a deep version the opposite color to shade (red), and vice versa. Add bounce light, it’s fun to play with. Look into composition, it helps with gesture in posture. Anatomy looks okay to me, just keep learning what you can anon! Have fun!

I actually had the same problem for a long time so it’s hard for me to describe how I got out of this habit, since I couldn’t see it myself. But I think it’s the forehead, that little divet we add between the upper cheekbone and eyebrow bone. It’s too deep, sometimes the cheekbone juts out more than the forehead, and it cuts into the circle which I think is wrong? Begs trying to help begs lmao, but yeah try to draw a straight line from the end of the circle down to the chin and see how you feel about it without the divet. Sorry I can’t help more!

People have told you that the face looks bad, and instead of taking the criticism you requested, you argued by saying it’s ‘on model’ so it can’t be messed up.

Anyone can tell that you skipped over/skimmed/failed to grasp the basics of anatomy, gesture, shading, color theory, and composition. One, thats untrue. Even on this large woman you can see the breasts dont quite reach down to the groin. That generally only happens on very old women with large brests and an affinity for going braless all their lives
Two, even if they did, that's one of the many purposes of bras, to keep the breasts in place. You don't need to elongate the torso to make breasts appealing, nature did a fine job of that already
'anime sketches' shouldn't be exempt from general critique because of whatever contrived rationality you've cooked up in your brain. You should strive for quality no matter what you do.

There's this whole thing about color temperature and white points, but that usually causes differences between your screen and printed paper, they shouldn't vary that much between screens.

Virtually no hours, but hopefully at least a couple for whatever you're working on that you want to show. Just try to do something, and if you feel like you put a good effort into it, but there's still something off about it or you just want to know where to go from there to improve, post it and see if someone can help. Obviously you don't want to do like a 2 minute scribble without reading any of the recommended stuff and be like hey guys what do I do here? Sit down and work on something and give it your best effort. This is the beginner thread so people aren't expecting experience, just effort.

I think generally, it helps make it easier to give advice if you're working out of a book, so if you have a problem with like the Keys to Drawing exercises, or if your Loomis heads are flat and wacky, etc. Or do whatever you want. Don't get hung up on it and feel like you aren't good enough to post anyways, there's always going to be some faggot who will say some stupid shit but sometimes you get good advice.

People get a bit caught up in it and think they have to rigidly construct everything how he does in the book, but you don't have to.
It's helpful to learn some construction techniques; but make your own decisions about how rigorous you want to be.
Even when I don't use do the actual constructions, I think it's helpful when freehanding to understand the methods one might use.
It should be on the artbook thread

You're sacrificing detail for bulk quantity of poses. Simplify construction, be gestural. It's about getting the feel for the figure as a whole from more poses, angles, movements, etc. If every figure drawing you do is like 30 min, 1hr, etc. you're just not going to draw that many figures. Think of yourself as like one of those 3D cameras that's quickly going around a figure and taking lots of pictures, as opposed to just like one flat long exposure picture (probably not a good analogy but don't think about it too much).

That being said, the more you know about the figure the more you can get out of faster paced drawings, and sometimes I feel like I have to just stop and really build up anatomy knowledge and whatnot to have more information that I can apply to the quicker drawings. It's like long form study vs. bulk application experience.

Simplify as much as you have to in order to get the drawing done in 5 minutes, if you can't do it in 5, do 10, etc. Start with a gesture and you should get something down. Once you get like the construction mannequin learned fairly well it shouldn't be too hard to do something with it.

Please redraw the Switch with perspective in mind. The bottom left corner should "closer" (up and to the right) to the left Kirby. The only other way I can think to explain it is: since the right side of the Switch is closer to the viewer, the left side should be smaller than the right.
Make the pillows look more squishy. Looks like you drew the outside of them and then just added lines in the middle. Individually they look fine, but when my eyes connect the two they both look bad.
Make the left Kirby's oval taller and the right one more oval on his stomach. The left Kirby looks like his face doesn't fit the same way as the right's. The right Kirby looks like his stomach isn't REALLY touching the bed.
Redo the right Kirby's foot. It looks flat. Maybe make his sole end high towards the bottom.

post work?

if you're trying to understand how the book would rotate, try imagining a line running along the long edge of the book. As you rotate the book, the line "shrinks" and "grows" because of your perspective, even though the actual length of the book stays constant. When the long edge shrinks, the short edge grows and vice versa. This is because when you rotate the book, you rotate the vanishing points.

I think your biggest problem is lineweight, it's a very common mistake but automatically makes your work look 10x worse than it really is. If you're using a G-pen kind of brush, you absolutely need to have lineweight in mind. I think your work looks really cute so I'd definitely try to redo the lineart, believe me it will change a lot. I strongly recommend looking at anime speedpaints (if it's your goal), analyzing the lineart alone and trying to understand what was done. It will explain better than words, but you might also look at the video about line weight from Marc Brunet (How to draw good lineart) and the lineart video from Deep Blizzard's Art School. Good line weight makes a drastic difference so it's definitely worth to learn it

No problem bro. I have to say I'm not sure how big the difference is, but I think your lines are very clean and without any noticeable pressure "bumps", so 1024 should be enough.
