Its normally a preference thing but watering from the bottom means the roots of the plant will suck up what water they need. This is more efficient to me as the plants fighting again gravity to sip the tasty water. Also it helpful if you over water a lot.

I think it will reach a max point where AI becomes just another tool part of art.
I imagine it something along the lines of Photoshop learning your artstyle by you showing it a folder filled with your previous works so then you can just make a rough sketch, click the AI tool, add some parameters, and the AI will fill it in to 90% completion in your style.
You would still need to keep practice develop your skills so you can continue to update your personal model in the AI.

no, i've had a different experience. i would suggest maybe creating a study plan or what other anon suggested in terms of making goals. i agree that the act of keeping up a streak just to maintain it is a pretty ineffective use of the site, but daily practice and turning artmaking into a habit has helped me improve since i started dad.

If you only draw for 30 minutes to submit and that's it, then yeah. But if it's motivating you to a pencil in your hand then it's already a huge, huge boon for most of the users. It's easy to draw for more than 30 mins once you're already drawing.
And if it's somehow not of any use to you, why don't you try going without for a couple of months and see how you fare? Maybe it really is holding you back.

Sounds like a you problem more than anything. I use it as a warm up and to get me drawing on larger works outside of DAD. Sometimes 30 minutes is all I need to get the ball rolling on days where I would have wasted time online. Not to mention just working on decision making within a time frame like you would do in lifedrawing; I've gotten better on my 30 minute drawings, too. I don't even want to know what you've been doing all this time if you thought mindlessly doing bare minimum was going to get you anywhere, but at least now you have people telling you you should've had some artistic goals. DAD is just to instill the habit of getting something going everyday, but your artistic growth is still what you make of the time.

I think if you feel like this, it might be useful to take a break from dad and really think about what it offers you.
I think the act of drawing daily is most useful if you know what you're gonna be doing with that time, whether it be studying with a clear goal, working on personal projects, pumping out commissions, making pieces for social media, or just having fun. Just drawing daily itself won't help you improve if you only ever stay in your comfort zone or aimlessly chip away at studies. I think drawing daily can absolutely help you improve faster, but you need to draw with purpose.

Need some advice
When i do shadows and light digitally, I've tried two methods. Hard round, and soft round brush.
When I use hard round, I get cell shading style. When I get soft round, I get a gross airbrush looking thing as in pic related.
I want to have more control over my brush work, and I can only really do that with cell shading. Is there a specific technique or brush or brush setting to use? Pic related was Soft round with pressure opacity.
I know my knowledge of light is still lacking and needs to be slowly improved but I'm really sick of either going "Oh, I guess Im gonna do this with cell shading again or try with an airbrush and maybe make it look shit"
I understand as your knowledge of form increases, so does your knowledge of where light and shadow accumalate. But I just feel like I don't understand photoshop. This currently looks very nice on thumbnail, all you need to do is to keep polishing it upclose.
One thing I'd like to suggest is removing some of the details from the nose. Upclose the nose tip indicator, the nostril hole, and the nostril edge all look too heavy on the piece and would work better without it. You are using a more high contrast approach to the lines, meaning lines like nostrils could end up being too intrusive for what you are trying to achieve here.
I'm aware this is considered a very anime suggestion, but this is something that's done even in the west, you can see it on frazetta's ink works.

The dad of the day is… nobody! I’ve decided to quit early. There are many reasons but basically:
I don’t think “dad of the day” was that useful. Featured dads could easily get a decent critique/help with their art when they wanted and on things they’re most concerned about simply by asking in dadcord. Giving critiques regardless if people want them or not is silly.
I don’t think “dad of the day” have improved those threads. The idea was to direct discussion towards art, but it very rarely happened, especially after novelty of daily dads wear off. Just look at the dads of the day from this very thread.
I didn’t think featuring everyone as a “dad of the day” would take this long. New accounts are made on a daily basis and there’s still plenty of dads that weren’t featured. It’s a more serious commitment than I thought it was.
And most importantly I don’t think I want to keep doing this. I’m trying to improve myself, to build more healthy habits. That includes quitting 4chan. I’m honestly ashamed of how much time I’ve wasted on people who were more interesting in ridiculing each other than anything else. I still want to be a part of DAD, but I don’t want to be a part of 4chan... and “dad of the day” is the main reason why I didn’t stop browsing 4chan yet. Maybe I'll show up every now and then when I'll have some finished art that needs a crit, but I definitely don't want to start my days with checking 4chan any more.

Dad threads can be active and be enjoyable. They used to be more active with fun discussion and shitposting. There were old threads where people would post their old art, or their inspiration charts, and people would guess which dad they came from. Hell, even tierlists, which we haven't had any of in a long time, would make the threads crazy active.
I think the real reason the dad threads have been kind of dead lately is that most of the shitposting has moved to the discord.
