floating loomis head is probably most of what these people recommending loomis know from loomis. i admit it can be an effective way of constructing for a beginner, but the most important thing is just keeping things centered and symmetrical on the face, which anime often doesnt even do. you can learn it without loomis, as people have for millenia. the beginner who hasn't internalized keeping things centered and symmetrical and proportional will find it useful to actually draw the guidelines. experience will make placing the features a second nature. i am not a digital anime plebian commonfolk either, but of a princely and ancient order who touches minever brush to linen canvas.

just because they used loomis doesnt mean their success is because of it. almost everyone here has some exp with loomis, even the ones who do not recommend loomis. in an alternate universe some other learning method might be used with equal success. because the secret is just draw while being aware of what fundamentals need to learn.

To be fair Japs, ancient Jap illustrators got their hands first on first Japanese translation of Jack Hamm books. Loomis books was translated around late 80s, when it really isn't needed anymore as their illustration schools already follow Hamm
