I want to be passionate and driven about it.
Are there any inspirational (non-motivational) books I can read?

Your problem is that you dont have a specific goal.
Figure out exactly what you want to do with "art" and then learn about the path to getting there.

I changed 1 little thing in my routine that has helped me immensely:

I always get a little itch to draw, but I also remember I have another 99 other things I need to do that are overdue or import or whatever. There are also 9999 things I want to see/play/read/etc.

I don't prevent myself from doing all that useless stuff, except in one case: when the itch to draw comes up.
There are no more "let's do it after I finish watching this", or "let me just finish my Japanese study for the day, then I'll draw".

Whenever I get the feeling or the thought that I should draw something, I draw. Highest priority on the list.
Of course at some point I might stop and go do the other tasks I needed/wanted to do, but drawing is already out of the way, so I feel accomplishment instead of guilt from procrastination. Because art is the most important thing for me. And that's how I'm treating it from now on.

>>5098362
Another complement: I wanted to finish a drawing on stream.
Ended up getting too lazy to stream, because interacting with people requires mental energy.
But instead of letting the "stream opportunity" for another day, I just finished the drawing offline, on my own. Because streaming should help me draw more, not prevent me from doing it. I'M GONNA DROOOOW.

for me the most inspirational thing is looking at great artists' sketchbooks (Crumb, Kim Jung Gi, Chris Ware). The raw creativity makes me want to start drawing right away.
Other than that, the key is to get away from the damn internet/devices and just draw, with access to only instructional material or reference.

Assuming you live in a city. Go outside and take a look at your local statues and monuments. Go to an art museum.
It usually goes like this, at least for me:

>Find interesting piece
>Look up the author
>Read their biography
>Find an interesting detail in said biography about their artistic process.
>Search for other artists who share a similar style.
>Read about those other artists
>And so on and so forth

What do you mean by "immerse" yourself? You're an artist, or you aren't, and you immerse yourself in life. Are you one of those people who think you have to draw 18 hours a day, every day? If so, stop that. Go outside. Have a life. Go to concerts. Go on dates. Travel. Get a degree in something. Learn. Fall in love. Get your heart broken. Get angry. The whole world is experience, and you bring that to your art. This whole "immerse" thing is from middle aged women who think if they consume everything, they're better than the bitch in the next cubicle. Drop that mindset. You're an artist, regardless of where you are. You can be inspired and make art anywhere. The entire world is reference, go see some of it. Come back and make some art about it.

As for books, try The War Of Art, by Stephen Pressfield. Then read some artist biographies - the DaVinci bio that came out the last year or two is excellent.

You can't push inspiration, it can happen anywhere, but just reading books about the greats is better than nothing. Or just reading, I've always read a lot, and get inspiration from books of all kinds. Museums are great places to try, and not just art museums, I get all kinds of ideas at science museums. When covid is over, go hit the zoos, or aquariums. Or just go for a hike somewhere, or see a movie. I've had ideas just driving to the grocery store. Or just sitting on the porch with some whiskey and a smoke, and watching the weather.

A lot of people think you have to have a carefully curated existence to be an artist. You don't. You just have to live. The artists I know who have to have the right decorations, the right clothes, see the right galleries and shows, and all that, are almost always universally trying too hard and it's more of a pose than anything artistic. It's Instagram level showing off.

This is a dangerous way to go

You see, as I have gotten more years into art I have been dissatisfied with the progress I have made,
realising this is because I didn't draw enough, I have become upset any time I am not drawing because I know it will make me upset later on.

So now I am upset all the time and now I am not in the mood to draw because of it
I am just very upset and life is misery
I recommend you draw more and try not to think too much about it, just forget about other things and draw more and you will be better at art
