I have a problem in Procreate where tilting the Pencil sometimes make the brush size preview cursor go haywire and it results in a crazy inconsistent width stroke, sometimes it happens with the regular tilt as well but nearly not as often. It's not a hardware problem because everything works perfectly in the Notes app, anyone else experience anything similar?

i was the guy in the other thread who lost his pencil. so i ended up finding it. thankfully the battery lasted long enough that it would sync with my ipad so i could tell what vicinity it was in

I'm tempted to buy Artstudio Pro now. What's the consensus here, is it considered better than
Procreate?
I'm proficient with Photoshop, so I'm not turned off by the ui of Artstudio Pro.

I recently got an Ipad and began working on it but to be honest i really struggle. I used to work on non-display tablet in Paint-tool Sai and making a switch to new device AND to new program (I'm using procreate atm) proves to be a challange. Are there any tricks to adapt easier?

I’m the guy who was asking about pic related last thread
tl;dr it works fucking perfectly in artstudio
you get 12 buttons, and artstudio lets you bind multiple tools to the same button if it makes sense
for example, I have the brush and eraser tool bound to the same button, if I press it while using the brush, it switches to the eraser and vice versa
also, if I hold the button down, it acts as a modifier key, so it only keeps the other tool as long as it’s pressed down, very convenient
this allowed me to replace finger tapping for eye dropper to have the quick menu pop up with a tap, resulting in a very nice and fluid workflow
the buttons are nice and clicky, the size is perfect to have all buttons within reach with minimal movement (I have 6 buttons I can press without relocating my fingers at all)
now, it bears mentioning that I have since found out they introduced a. native keymapper with ios 14, however I can’t test it out because the zero one technically no longer supports ios
it can only connect as a keyboard, which is exactly what I needed so it works fine for my purposes, but if you have a controller you can try connecting it and seeing if you can keymap it to be used with art apps, dual shock and xbox definitely work, not sure about random brands
if it works, it opens up some very nice opportunities for using fancy vr controllers
pic related is just $10 and the new one that should be compatible with the new ios should be like $20 I think
obviously you can’t use it in procreate and such if you can’t map the keys because the app doesn’t let you customise keyboard shortcuts, so it’s just artstudio and csp that work, I think

Anyone else feel like the apple pencil nib is too big? It's horrible to draw with compared to any other tablet pen I've tried. Been drawing with it for more than a year and still can't really get used to it. Am I missing something here??
I tried out a samsung tablet the other day and the pen felt much more comfortable. Hard to believe the ipad is like 3 times more expensive ugh

The technology Apple is working with in the iPad and Pencil is amazing but held back by their retarded design philosophy, the nib being hard plastic and too big, the body being slippery, non-replaceable batteries, etc. If they fixed these issues there'd be no competition but given all the new releases that didn't even try to address anything, I doubt it's ever getting fixed.

Practice, practice, practice. Just draw a lot, and you'll adapt eventually. The iPad and Apple Pencil together make for a really great drawing experience, in my opinion. Drawing on the glass can take some time to get accustomed to, and Procreate has its own quirks, but the longer you use them, the more you'll adapt. It won't happen overnight, so just keep at it.

Considering a lot of longtime iPad artists started out on 9.7" iPads, I'd say 11" is enough, but bigger is always better, right?

Do you have an Apple store near you? If so, they probably have display models that you can try before you buy. That way you can see for yourself if getting the 12.9" is the way to go.

Also, based on the 8bitdo website, the Zero 1 had iOS support, and the Zero 2 dropped it and added Switch support.

I have an Apple Pencil 2, like it a lot. But does anyone else have an issue with their nib unscrewing a lot? I have to keep screwing mine back into place daily. It also doesn't screw in "flush" with the main body

I can connect it as a keyboard (macos), the ios mode also works, but assigns different events to pressing and releasing the button, so you get two different keys every time you push a button, the shutter mode just changes the volume from what I can tell, and the other two (windows/android) connect, but seemingly do nothing, they don’t act as a keyboard and I couldn’t make it do anything in any game I tried, though they may just not have gamepad support.
I’ve found mentions of pairing the controller from the switch menu in accessibility to add it as a MFI controller but I can’t make it work, maybe it’s for an older ios version

So Procreate posted this pic today and I guess they will concentrate on phones in 2021. They cucked us ipad users and I hope we still will get some good updates.

No if you buy a literal who-brand on Amazon, I‘ve tried several matte protectors and even both the Paperlike 1 and 2 and everything felt like dogshit to me and made the screen extremely blurry (paperlike a bit better in this). Settled at the Elecom Rough Drawing matte protector and am very satisfied.

From personal experience the smaller iPad pros are better for portability. Not too heavy and small enough to easily slip in any bag, but big enough that you can have both hands on the screen (one for drawing, the other for touch gestures) without obscuring your work.

If you're just drawing from home all day then sure get the biggun.

A lot of folks, but we all have Galaxy Notes. A phone is too small to be a primary drawing device, but I used to cary a small pocket sketchbook, and a phone with a stylus fills that use case well.

Who here is using something other then Procreate? I just never liked Procreate it feels a bit underpowered with the layer limitations and stuff. I've been messing with Infinite Painter and I liked it, but something about the brush engine just isnt clicking, the mixing is very weird(like its mixing after you move on from that area) and feels not very good compared to the PS mixer brush.

I dont want to buy Photoshop or CSP because fuck subscriptions. I guess I can live with infinite painter but who here has dabbled with some other stuff? Mostly just looking for painting. Ive heard some good things about Artstudio Pro I think Ill give that a shot since I can import my PS brushes, if anyone has any other suggestions would love to hear them

My only concern with Artstudio Pro is the INABILITY to make custom values for canvas sizes. It's incredibly frustrating as I bet the dev could code it under 30 minutes.

I'm not a fan of using various brushes I'll be honest.
When I draw traditionally I do have various pencils but I usually only use one grade for a drawing, so basically my drawing is a "F" or "HB" and so on. Digitally it's the same, so far I've only painted with 1 brush and that's it. I think it just feels more natural to me, and changing brush puts me out of "the zone".

I’m trying to find a timed slideshow app for gestures, to use my own photos. iMovie and Procreate are not at all convenient for the job.

I have a problem.
I just noticed there is "sputtering" when I draw. So if I draw a line, it might leave a hole or multiple holes where the line does not form even though I draw a solid line. Sometimes this happens a lot, sometimes it doesn't happen very much at all.

I tested briefly with my finger and it doesn't seem to happen at all. So it's a problem with my pen?

Is it normal to have a little bit of this happen?

Im not clear on how these gens work?

I just applied paperlike. I was focusing on the bubbles, only got 1 left but it's pretty much on the side anyway.

I was so happy, but then I realised I applied it the wrong way so now it blurs/blocks the front cam, so I cant use face to unlock or maybe I need to recalibrate it.

How long does one paperlike last before it needs to be changed? Not that I use the cam for anything except unlocking...

the only problem I have with sidecar itself is that it has a high pressure threshold for my taste
in practice you have issues with the software itself like csp’s retarded window system where you have to drag everything over one piece at a time and it doesn’t let you drag the taskbar, but that’s not really a sidecar issue

I've tried drawing on bare glass (2018 iPad Pro) and it's this really odd feel where it starts with way more friction than any protector, but then fucking SKIPS or does this godawful screeching sound. Tried with multiple new Apple Pencil nibs out of the box and a clean screen, same shit.

So I went and bought an Elecom protector because it's supposed to feel like paper. But it's somehow more slippery than the iPad display's bare glass, which is driving me nuts. It also tears through my nibs like fucking sandpaper, which is worrying because Apple sells these motherfuckers at $20 a box. On the plus side, no skipping or slipping.

You have to either adjust or just draw trad. Stop trying to draw like it’s a pencil, it is not a pencil. It feels different and makes marks differently. If you want it to feel like a pencil just use a pencil. If you can adjust though it’s infinitely more useful. What are you having problems with, line work? Painting? Can’t advise you if I don’t know what you’re trying to do

Does anyone have any recommendations on what I can use to give more grip to my Apple Pencil?

I've tried a few matte screen protectors (tempered glass) but the picture quality and pressure sensitivity were awful afterwards

If you use your iPad like me (watching YouTube while lying on the bed or sketch while rolling around on the bed) Get the 11 inch. It’s very comfortable to hold up prop it up on your stomach and leg to watch videos or sketch with one hand.

If you don’t do anything of that. Get 12.9 inch.

Drawing on glass feels fine to me. So having a screen protector that ruins clarity of the image I’m working on major no for me.

Procreate is great... but
It has horrific pen pressure sensitivity so much so that if you rely on pen pressure for your painting style, you're in for a bad way. Unfortunately there's no other painting app that has all the benefits of procreate minus it's abysmal pressure curves (and bizarre brush settings desu)

I’m a rank beginner trying to learn figure drawing and line art, so I don’t mind being told to adjust since that’s all my newfag ass is doing anyway. I just don’t want to fuck myself over.

Do any of you guys ever try adjusting the global pressure curve? Procreate and ArtStudio Pro both have this. I don't know if that would solve some of your problems, but I tend to draw with a light touch, so I like to lower the amount of pressure necessary for heavy strokes.

Everything just feels so wrong from size pressure to opacity/flow.
Even if i mess with the settings its still just a mess, ibispaint and painter feel more normal and comparable to wacom tablets.
