hi all I'm looking for a series of books that got mentioned in the threads once but I just cannot for the life of me find it again - they were a series of pictorial books kinda similar to the Eyewitness and Osprey books in that they covered medieval clothing/armor. That's actually very common for scans of the 2000's era. Filesizes needed to be small, so they would scan only what they cared about. In effect with torrents, archive, sad panda, nyaa, etc we have near infinite amount of space.

I own this book (I am not that anon) so I will shed some light on why there is no scan. As far as I know, there is no digital version. On top of that, this is a very weirdly designed book. First of all, it's fucking MASSIVE. It's over 300 pages, yet it's bound the way you would expect a ~50 page art book to be. Because of these two factors, you really cannot get the book down flat enough to scan without either breaking the spine or just having half the page be a blur. The only real option is to tear out the pages. It's also pricey. If the cost of the book is affordable, the shipping won't be and vice versa. I ended up spending around $75 I think on my copy at Kinokuniya.

Both are good. I think they're best used in conjunction. The book is more in depth but it can be confusing at times since it's all just still images. The videos are very helpful since they show you the process in real time. Best to supplement the book with the videos. Read the lesson -> try it -> watch the video -> try it again. Should I read/study Bridgman's Life Drawing before Constructive Anatomy? I see a lot of people talking about and recommending Constructive Anatomy but I don't think I've ever seen any discussion about his other books. I'm currently going through Keys to Drawing.

It's actually more like an interview rather than a tutorial book, the book is divided into various topic, between animation, manga, and illustration, and the interviewer would ask him some questions and he answered it. There are few tips here and there, but mainly it's just text where Tanaka gave his insights on these topics. I'll try to figure out how to scan this without damaging the book.

Please just start painting more backgrounds. Take an image you like and try to copy it. Slam your computer into the wall from the frustration of most digital brushes being completely useless for the job. Find one or two brushes that work. If you can't find any, learn to make them. Paint hundreds of backgrounds. If you can't come up with your own yet, copy hundreds of them. You will learn what looks good. Watch some youtube videos or gumroad products, while being aware that 95% of them are trash and that almost everything they teach will be a dead end. Use their techniques as a temporary hack and be ready to discard everything later.

I have read dozens of books and the only thing that developed my skills was throwing the books away and painting a few thousand pictures. Now I'm returning to the books for small tidbits. Most books will have one or two paragraphs that are useful for an intermediate artist. Whereas no knowledge in the world will get you from beginner to intermediate. Only painting will.

No, it's because they all look like the kind of photobash, kitschy concept art that you'd normally see come out of Weta Workshop in the previous decade (they're based in New Zealand btw). It recalls the aesthetic that people like Aaron Beck, Leri Greer and Christian Pearce pioneered under Neil Blomkamp. That shit's been in Call of Duty for a couple years now.

That's my worry about the Pose videos.
I like some of his youtube lectures, but seeing his anatomy video was very underwhelming. Nothing wrong with it per-say, but being aware of this artbook thread, it definitely puts it to shame with all the other resources out there (even when compared to the free content).

His pose bundle does have appeal. I might just grab it.

if so, i have the book physically. its 90% diablo 3, and 10% others. there are a few diablo 4 images, but its promo images you see in most advertisement and wallpaper collection sites. same thing with diablo 1 and 2. those images can be found in diablo wikis. A bloody waste of 25 bucks i paid for it.

Don't think I've seen this book anywhere online. I found a copy and scanned it a few months back.
