Does mrpurin come to the threads? To clarify the "??"s on your studies, the muscles you coloured in orange are the brachioradialis and the extensor carpi radialis longus (the brachio on top and the ECRL below it), and the red muscle group are the extensors, yes!
And a small naming thing too, the blue muscle on the first drawing isn't the flexor carpi *radialis*, but actually the flexor capri *ulnaris*. The ulna goes to the pinky and the radius goes to the thumb, so a muscle will generally be named ulnaris/radialis based on which side of the arm it's on. Hope that helps

hey anon, haven't tried blender yet, but i'm running zbrush on a thinkpad w540 laptop. win 10 (now), 6 years old, but also a pretty good laptop from that time. intel i7-4900MQ CPU @ 2.80GHz, Quadro K1100M 2GB, 16gb ram.

it's going okay, zbrush runs decent enough. a little lag sometimes when rendering/zremeshing big things/processing in general, and not just sculpting, but nothing remotely bad.

i just started learning though, so i haven't made anything super big/complex yet, but i am running the thing on a laptop so i thought i'd butt in, lmao.

Generally, 3D modelling programs work perfectly fine until your scene is too big to fit into the RAM. When the time comes to render the scene, that's when all your big problems start rolling out.

You want a dedicated GPU with plenty of vram, integrated definitely won't cut it and/or a beefy CPU with lots of RAM. If your scene can't fit inside the GPU you won't be able to render the scene at all. If your GPU is slow, you could see an insanely long render time. If it won't fit in the GPU you can try CPU rendering but CPU rendering is in general aeons slower. Different renderers are compatible with different things. For example, Octane works with Nvidia GPUs only. Some renderers aren't cracked, notoriously redshift and octane.

3D needs better specs than 2D for sure and it will make itself felt in super chugging rendertimes. If you get a laptop make sure it's a gaming one with COOLING (look at temperatures under load) or else it will start COOKING. If it's a computer you're building, it'll be a lot cheaper.

When you're rendering, you basically won't be able to use your computer as it will use all the resources it can.

Zbrush is CPU only and very efficient on the system resources. Blender gets shat on a lot for needing lots of specs to handle relatively lower numbers of polys.

If your scene is too big polywise, you can learn retopo to lower the polys or decimate. But like I say, it's a rabbithole.

4 flights of stairs, one dressed anime girl and one tree speedtree ate up 3.5GB of vram for me in keyshot (I've 4GB) when I tried to render it at 3000 px wide in diameter with textures in keyshot (to be fair, I don't understand the first thing about retopo and am too lazy and these are non decimated models). I didn't optimise the polys at all.

I think you'll be fine with 8 GB vram. ofc I've heard keyshot is hungrier than most. If it's too much for the vram, ram will hold it and ram is a lot cheaper just again the CPU tradeoff. But if you have a good cpu there's less of an issue.

And yeah, gpus with chonky vram get kinda expensive :( like I think jama says, it doesn't matter if there's imperfections caused by reducing polys a lot if you're going to paint over it or ref it, but if you're doing 3D art as your main art you probably want chonky vram.

If you're using blender, have a look at what people say about cycles and eevee in terms of gpu use.

Actually, peeps are saying eevee eats a lot of vram so 8 gb might be the safest bet

Nose is beautifully rendered but doesn't quite suit a cute girl. The eyes look a little creepy and 'tight', relax the top eye lids a little bit and bring them down. I think the nose just needs to be slightly thinner, it tapers in a neat inwards then outwards curve for girls (generally) whereas male noses are broader and blockier. Get some ref to help you out, 'cute girl' on pinterest is probably enough to give you some ideas

if thats you i think in general it might be helpful for you to sketch things out instead of going to direct paint. things like your anatomy study for example have better shapes, and its easier if you roughly block out the shape instead of directly painting if youre new, and it seems a lot like youre just going to paint directly because your shapes are just very blurred and ill-defined. (krenz recommends this too according to the first lecture in >DPG btw.)

it depends on what type of cute you want to achieve. nowadays small button noses are popular. or theres noses with thinner bridges, which tend to be more cute and 'delicate'. if you want to not have a thinner bridge, again, button noses/leaning towards kpop-ish noses. you know?

OK I see. I think a skect hwould still be useful even if u don't follow it perfectly though, I know mine changes a lot from sketch to painted face study (but I am pretty noob to realism faces anyway). But I find having an approximate one down and sketching other parts helps to block in initial shadows better.
Speaking of blocking in I think polarising a ref to 4-5 colours and lowering until lightest colour is light grey (and not white) is useful to learning to place the right blocks, and to make bigger/harder initial blocks, and then after enough detailing you can use the regular ref and see how the less simplified shadows display differently. If that makes sense? As an exercise I found it useful. So:
Sketch, fill grey block underneath, block out darkest and medium dark, refine + merge sketch down (create new clipping layers for painting more stuff on top). Unhide unpolarised ref, refine. See whats off. Repeat from scratch
Again just a scrub but I can try painting over the edges when I wake up in like 5hr if u want idk

This is just my personal take, but I think that grinding them over and over again until you're "perfect" is a meme, but doing them once and using them as a warm up is good. Sports players do drills to improve individual skills, I don't see why the same wouldn't apply to basic things in art like line accuracy/confidence.

Get into the habit of doing standing yoga and wear a brace if you tend to default to a slouch position (they're a little pricey but it will cost you less in the long run). More seriously, one part of their faces tends to be offset weirdly/oddly bulging in most of the recent (last two rows) drawings with faces/heads. Either the forehead is too large (dec 14), or the entire front of the face/jaw leaves no room for the back of the head (dec 12) and connects poorly, or the jaw is offset poorly (dec 17, too far forward).

I'd recc doing more head studies/construction and focusing on placing/scaling the parts and features correctly with normal construction lines.
